Chapter 18

Don’t Fall

I LOOKED up, even in the dark, and recognized him.

"X-Xylon..." My voice trembled.

"What are you doing out here? Did you follow me?"

I couldn't answer. Fear still gripped me, and I froze when I felt something cold on my leg. I instantly hugged Xylon.

"Why? What—"

"Xylon! There's something... on my leg..."

"Huh! What?" He looked down at my feet, and I felt something squirming on my knee.

I jumped and clung to Xylon's neck. He quickly lifted me in his arms.

"Take me away from here! Hurry! Something is biting my foot!"

"Biting?" I couldn't see Xylon's reaction. I just buried myself in him. 'I'm scared to death, damn it!'

There it was, the terrifying sound again. And it was close. Really close to us.

"P-Please, Xylon... Let's get out of here," I pleaded, holding him tightly. I could feel his breathing, almost panting.

"O-Okay," he said, slowly moving. I heard another sound, like panting. I knew it wasn't Xylon. We had company. 'What was that? A monster in the woods.' I gripped
