Gloss POV

“You’re fired.”

The words hit harder than a bullet. My body went stiff, my stomach twisted, and for a second, I thought I might faint. Cold sweat rolled down my neck, and my vision blurred. The air in the boardroom changed like someone had opened a freezer door, trapping me inside.

The directors froze in their seats. Some had their mouths twitching like they were trying not to smile. They had been waiting for this, to see me fall in front of Dream Lancaster, the man who had never been wrong in judging people.

So this was it. My end was already written. Just like the novel said, the secretary’s humiliation started here.

Then, as if to mock me, I heard the system’s chime in my head.

[Urgent Mission Triggered: Survive Termination.]

[Method: Prove your worth before the board.]

[Reward: +5 Affection Points from CEO.]

[Failure: Immediate expulsion from the novel world.]

Immediate expulsion. I didn’t need anyone to explain that. It meant death. Permanent erasure. No second chance. Just gone.

I wanted to scream. Why did the system always throw me into hell without warning? Couldn’t it give me something easier like “bring Dream’s coffee” or “flatter the boss”? But no, it wanted me to risk my life in front of a billionaire with a frozen heart.

I didn’t have time to be afraid. My fists clenched tight, nails pressing into my palms. I forced myself to breathe, to push words out even when my voice trembled.

“With all due respect, sir,” I said, “I can’t be fired.”

The silence that followed was painful.

Every pair of eyes turned to me. Some widened, some narrowed, others sparkled with amusement. But they all had the same thought. This idiot just buried herself alive.

Dream’s silver eyes shifted to me. For the first time since entering the room, he actually looked at me. Not a glance, not a passing look. Really looked. The weight of it almost knocked me off my feet.

“Excuse me?” His voice was calm, but it was the kind of calm that scared you. Smooth but sharp, like glass ready to crack.

I swallowed. “If you fire me now, sir, you’ll embarrass yourself in front of the board. Because then they’ll realize your secretary caught a mistake in the quarterly report that none of your directors noticed.”

Gasps filled the room. The sound spread across the table like falling dominoes. Directors started flipping through their papers. Some shifted uncomfortably, whispering to each other. Dream didn’t blink. His gaze stayed locked on me, daring me to continue.

I raised my hand and pointed with all the fake confidence I could manage. “Director Han, wasn’t this your report? You signed it yourself, didn’t you?”

Han, the older man with gray hair and glasses, froze mid-breath. The smirk he had earlier disappeared. Color drained from his face. “I… yes, I submitted it, but—”

“But,” I cut him off, my voice louder now, fueled by fear and desperation, “you miscalculated operating losses by five percent. Instead of twenty, you wrote two. Just one digit, but it changes the company’s entire standing for the quarter. Isn’t that true?”

The boardroom filled with whispers again. Papers flipped open, calculators clicked, pens scribbled. Han’s hands trembled as he checked his report.

The system chimed.

[System Notice: +1 Confidence Point.]

Dream’s eyes slowly turned to Han. His tone dropped, low and cold. “Is this true?”

Han’s throat bobbed. Sweat ran down his temple. “I-I… it was just a typo. Nothing serious…”

“Nothing serious?” The words came out before I could stop them. “Director Han, I might be just a secretary, but unless my math is broken, a typo worth millions of dollars doesn’t sound small to me. Or do you all make mistakes like this for fun?”

Some directors laughed softly, others coughed to hide their amusement. A few even smiled behind their hands. The tension cracked a little, though everyone still looked nervous.

The system chimed again.

[System Notice: +2 Wit Points.]

Han’s face turned bright red. He slammed his papers down. “You insolent brat!”

“Careful, Director Han,” I said sweetly. “If you shout too loud, the whole building might hear that a secretary exposed you in front of your boss. Imagine the headline: CEO’s trusted director embarrassed by his own staff. That’s not a good look.”

The boardroom broke into laughter. Real laughter this time. Someone even choked on his water. Assistants rushed to calm their bosses. I had to bite my tongue to keep from smiling.

Han looked like he wanted to lunge across the table. “You… you dare—”

Dream’s voice cut through the noise. “Enough.”

Everything stopped.

You could feel the air shift again. No one moved, no one even dared to breathe.

Dream’s silver eyes turned back to Han, colder than before. “You submitted an incorrect report and thought I wouldn’t notice. Worse, you assumed I would accept it.”

“I… Sir Lancaster, it was—”

“Do you take me for a fool?”

He didn’t shout, but his tone carried more weight than any scream. Han sank back into his chair, shaking.

And just like that, the tables turned.

The system chimed again.

[Mission Complete: Survive Termination.]

[Reward: +5 Affection Points.]

Relief hit me so hard I almost fell to my knees. My hands shook as I gripped my notepad. I could finally breathe again. I was alive.

Dream’s expression didn’t soften. His lips stayed in a straight line, but there was something sharper in his eyes now. As if he was seeing me for the first time.

“Secretary Rivera.”

His voice was smooth but dangerous.

“Yes, sir.” My throat was dry, but I managed to speak.

“You’re still incompetent,” he said coldly. “But not entirely useless.”

The words echoed. Short and simple. But coming from Dream Lancaster — a man who never praised anyone — it felt like a victory.

I held my notepad tighter to stop my hands from shaking. “Thank you, sir.”

He gave a small wave, and the meeting was over. Chairs moved, people stood quickly, trying to escape his presence. A few directors muttered things as they left, some glaring at me, others just curious. Han left last, his face red and full of anger.

I stayed where I was, still trying to catch my breath. My heart refused to calm down.

Then I heard his voice again.

“Don’t think you’ve won.”

I looked up. Dream stood by the door, his suit perfect, his silver eyes sharper than glass.

“You’re still nothing to me.”

The words hit harder than the first “you’re fired.” Not because they promised failure, but because they promised a challenge.

I wasn’t going to let his taunts get to me. I had a life to save. Literally.

Dream's POV I didn’t sleep. All night, I replayed it, the brief touch of his lips, the startled look in his eyes, the way the world stopped for one reckless heartbeat. And then the anger that came after. The kind that burned low and constant, the kind that made me feel like I was losing control. When morning came, I pretended it hadn’t happened. Pretended he was just my assistant again, that his laugh didn’t echo in my head or that my chest didn’t tighten every time he walked past. He tried to speak to me in the kitchen when I came down. “Good morning…” “Coffee,” I said sharply, not looking up from the tablet. He hesitated, his tone soft. “You want sugar or…” “Black,” I said. “Like usual.” He nodded, went quiet. The clink of the cup on the counter sounded louder than it should have. The air was heavy. He moved carefully, like I might snap again. Maybe I would. I told myself it was better this way, professional distance, controlled silence. But the silence wasn’t peace. It w

  • LEVEL UP MY COLD CEO {MxM}   CHAPTER 115: THE MISSION: KISS HIM.

Gloss POV The moment hung in the air like static. His words still echoed in my head, You fucking drive me insane. My back was still against the wall, his breath still warm on my face. The world had gone quiet, except for the thundering of my own heartbeat. Neither of us moved. His gaze was locked on mine, dark and unsteady. I didn’t know if he was about to kiss me or scream again. Maybe both. Then, just as quickly, he stepped back. The space between us filled with cold air and silence. He dragged a hand through his hair, muttering something under his breath that I couldn’t catch, and turned away. I stayed there for a second, trying to catch my breath. My heart didn’t get the memo that the fight was over. He walked to the bar, grabbed a glass, and poured himself a drink like he needed the world’s strongest distraction. I slowly peeled myself off the wall, straightening my shirt and pretending my entire soul hadn’t just short-circuited. “Are we done shouting now?” I asked, trying

  • LEVEL UP MY COLD CEO {MxM}   CHAPTER 114: LATE-NIGHT ARGUMENT.

Gloss POV The car ride home was too quiet. The hum of the engine filled the silence between us, low and steady, yet charged. Dream sat beside me, jaw tight, his hands gripping the steering wheel harder than necessary. Every flick of his eyes to the road was controlled, deliberate, like he was holding something back. I knew that look. He was furious. The night outside was a blur of lights and motion. City reflections danced across the car windows, but all I could see was the small vein pulsing at his temple. The moment the car stopped in front of the penthouse, he didn’t say a word. He stepped out, long strides, sharp movements. I followed, my heels clicking on the marble floor of the lobby, the tension trailing between us like smoke. Inside the elevator, the silence grew heavier. The golden light hummed above us, flickering slightly as if nervous too. He exhaled once, slow, through his nose. “Do you want to tell me what the hell that was tonight?” His voice was calm, too calm t

  • LEVEL UP MY COLD CEO {MxM}   CHAPTER 113: THE APOLOGY BANQUET.

Dream's POV After the laughter-filled meeting that went viral across office gossip, the board wasn’t pleased. Investors didn’t find “humor” an acceptable leadership strategy. They wanted professionalism, order, damage control. So, I decided to host a banquet, an elegant apology wrapped in champagne and polished charm. The “Investor Appreciation Dinner,” as the invitations read, was less about appreciation and more about saving face. I booked the top floor of the Vellum Grand Hotel, a place where everything gleamed too bright, from the chandeliers to the smiles. Waiters in white gloves moved like clockwork, setting tables covered with silver and gold, the scent of roses thick in the air. As I stood at the entrance, greeting guests, I could feel their eyes on me, not with awe, but with judgment veiled as curiosity. I’d made the company money, but my personal life was now a public subject. Whispers about me and my secretary circulated like fine wine, poured and sipped with interest.

  • LEVEL UP MY COLD CEO {MxM}   CHAPTER 112: OFFICE WARZONE.

Gloss POV After Dream’s public declaration, everything in the company changed overnight. My desk felt like the center of a silent storm. People no longer whispered when I walked by, they just stopped talking entirely. Eyes followed me from behind monitors, conversations died mid-sentence, and fake smiles bloomed like weeds wherever I turned. The elevator rides became longer, colder. Some employees offered polite nods, others looked away quickly, pretending not to notice me. It wasn’t subtle anymore, I could feel the line drawn between me and them. Some feared me. Others just plain hated me. And in the middle of it all, Adrian thrived. He strutted through the corridors like the cat who’d caught the canary, flashing that smug grin that made my stomach twist. Every time he passed me, he made sure to drop a comment sharp enough to cut. “Must be nice having the boss wrapped around your finger,” he’d say in passing, voice dripping with mock innocence. Or, “You really should teach me y

  • LEVEL UP MY COLD CEO {MxM}   CHAPTER 111: RUMORS AND REALITIES.

Gloss POV The office felt different after that morning. Every time I stepped into the elevator beside Dream, the air thickened with quiet stares. People smiled too politely or avoided looking altogether, pretending not to notice how close we stood, how our hands brushed when we exchanged files, how his gaze lingered a little too long when I spoke. I tried to ignore it, to focus on my work, to pretend that the soft pull between us wasn’t visible to everyone with eyes. But news spreads faster than data here. By noon, whispers had already started trickling through the halls, carried on coffee steam and half-stifled laughs. “They’re always together.” “I heard he personally hired him without protocol.” “Please, look at them. That’s not just work chemistry.” I could feel the heat of it following me everywhere I went. It crept into the corners of meetings, into the break room, into the way people lowered their voices when I entered. When I passed a group near the copier, they suddenly
