Gloss POV

“You’re fired.”

The words hit harder than a bullet. My body went stiff, my stomach twisted, and for a second, I thought I might faint. Cold sweat rolled down my neck, and my vision blurred. The air in the boardroom changed like someone had opened a freezer door, trapping me inside.

The directors froze in their seats. Some had their mouths twitching like they were trying not to smile. They had been waiting for this, to see me fall in front of Dream Lancaster, the man who had never been wrong in judging people.

So this was it. My end was already written. Just like the novel said, the secretary’s humiliation started here.

Then, as if to mock me, I heard the system’s chime in my head.

[Urgent Mission Triggered: Survive Termination.]

[Method: Prove your worth before the board.]

[Reward: +5 Affection Points from CEO.]

[Failure: Immediate expulsion from the novel world.]

Immediate expulsion. I didn’t need anyone to explain that. It meant death. Permanent erasure. No second chance. Just gone.

I wanted to scream. Why did the system always throw me into hell without warning? Couldn’t it give me something easier like “bring Dream’s coffee” or “flatter the boss”? But no, it wanted me to risk my life in front of a billionaire with a frozen heart.

I didn’t have time to be afraid. My fists clenched tight, nails pressing into my palms. I forced myself to breathe, to push words out even when my voice trembled.

“With all due respect, sir,” I said, “I can’t be fired.”

The silence that followed was painful.

Every pair of eyes turned to me. Some widened, some narrowed, others sparkled with amusement. But they all had the same thought. This idiot just buried herself alive.

Dream’s silver eyes shifted to me. For the first time since entering the room, he actually looked at me. Not a glance, not a passing look. Really looked. The weight of it almost knocked me off my feet.

“Excuse me?” His voice was calm, but it was the kind of calm that scared you. Smooth but sharp, like glass ready to crack.

I swallowed. “If you fire me now, sir, you’ll embarrass yourself in front of the board. Because then they’ll realize your secretary caught a mistake in the quarterly report that none of your directors noticed.”

Gasps filled the room. The sound spread across the table like falling dominoes. Directors started flipping through their papers. Some shifted uncomfortably, whispering to each other. Dream didn’t blink. His gaze stayed locked on me, daring me to continue.

I raised my hand and pointed with all the fake confidence I could manage. “Director Han, wasn’t this your report? You signed it yourself, didn’t you?”

Han, the older man with gray hair and glasses, froze mid-breath. The smirk he had earlier disappeared. Color drained from his face. “I… yes, I submitted it, but—”

“But,” I cut him off, my voice louder now, fueled by fear and desperation, “you miscalculated operating losses by five percent. Instead of twenty, you wrote two. Just one digit, but it changes the company’s entire standing for the quarter. Isn’t that true?”

The boardroom filled with whispers again. Papers flipped open, calculators clicked, pens scribbled. Han’s hands trembled as he checked his report.

The system chimed.

[System Notice: +1 Confidence Point.]

Dream’s eyes slowly turned to Han. His tone dropped, low and cold. “Is this true?”

Han’s throat bobbed. Sweat ran down his temple. “I-I… it was just a typo. Nothing serious…”

“Nothing serious?” The words came out before I could stop them. “Director Han, I might be just a secretary, but unless my math is broken, a typo worth millions of dollars doesn’t sound small to me. Or do you all make mistakes like this for fun?”

Some directors laughed softly, others coughed to hide their amusement. A few even smiled behind their hands. The tension cracked a little, though everyone still looked nervous.

The system chimed again.

[System Notice: +2 Wit Points.]

Han’s face turned bright red. He slammed his papers down. “You insolent brat!”

“Careful, Director Han,” I said sweetly. “If you shout too loud, the whole building might hear that a secretary exposed you in front of your boss. Imagine the headline: CEO’s trusted director embarrassed by his own staff. That’s not a good look.”

The boardroom broke into laughter. Real laughter this time. Someone even choked on his water. Assistants rushed to calm their bosses. I had to bite my tongue to keep from smiling.

Han looked like he wanted to lunge across the table. “You… you dare—”

Dream’s voice cut through the noise. “Enough.”

Everything stopped.

You could feel the air shift again. No one moved, no one even dared to breathe.

Dream’s silver eyes turned back to Han, colder than before. “You submitted an incorrect report and thought I wouldn’t notice. Worse, you assumed I would accept it.”

“I… Sir Lancaster, it was—”

“Do you take me for a fool?”

He didn’t shout, but his tone carried more weight than any scream. Han sank back into his chair, shaking.

And just like that, the tables turned.

The system chimed again.

[Mission Complete: Survive Termination.]

[Reward: +5 Affection Points.]

Relief hit me so hard I almost fell to my knees. My hands shook as I gripped my notepad. I could finally breathe again. I was alive.

Dream’s expression didn’t soften. His lips stayed in a straight line, but there was something sharper in his eyes now. As if he was seeing me for the first time.

“Secretary Rivera.”

His voice was smooth but dangerous.

“Yes, sir.” My throat was dry, but I managed to speak.

“You’re still incompetent,” he said coldly. “But not entirely useless.”

The words echoed. Short and simple. But coming from Dream Lancaster — a man who never praised anyone — it felt like a victory.

I held my notepad tighter to stop my hands from shaking. “Thank you, sir.”

He gave a small wave, and the meeting was over. Chairs moved, people stood quickly, trying to escape his presence. A few directors muttered things as they left, some glaring at me, others just curious. Han left last, his face red and full of anger.

I stayed where I was, still trying to catch my breath. My heart refused to calm down.

Then I heard his voice again.

“Don’t think you’ve won.”

I looked up. Dream stood by the door, his suit perfect, his silver eyes sharper than glass.

“You’re still nothing to me.”

The words hit harder than the first “you’re fired.” Not because they promised failure, but because they promised a challenge.

I wasn’t going to let his taunts get to me. I had a life to save. Literally.

Dream's POV “And I’ll never let you go.” The words settle into my chest like something permanent. For a moment I cannot breathe. His forehead rests against mine, his hand still cupping my face, his voice trembling with the kind of honesty that strips everything else away. The garden is silent, not awkward, not tense, just reverent. Even the wind seems to pause. I open my eyes slowly. He looks wrecked, tears bright on his lashes, lips curved in the smallest, bravest smile. I lift my hand to his wrist, holding it there against my cheek. “You won’t have to,” I whisper, though the microphone catches it and carries it softly outward. A faint murmur moves through the guests, a collective exhale. The officiant clears their throat gently, grounding us back into the ceremony without breaking the spell. “It is time,” they say. Time. The word feels different today. Not a countdown, not a deadline. A beginning. I nod once. My best man steps forward quietly, placing the small velv

  • LEVEL UP MY COLD CEO {MxM}   CHAPTER 196: GLOSS'S VOW.

Gloss POV “And I’ll spend my life saving you back.” His words settle into me like sunlight through glass. For a second, I forget there are people around us. I forget the flowers, the aisle, the soft murmur of wind weaving through the open garden. I forget the chairs filled with friends, the distant sniffles, the way someone in the third row coughs quietly and tries to disguise it as a laugh. All I see is him. His hand still holds mine. His eyes are steady now, but there is a vulnerability in them I recognize, because I have seen it in quiet rooms, in long nights, in moments where the world felt too sharp and he let himself soften only with me. He finished speaking. Now it is my turn. My pulse thunders in my ears. I swallow, my throat suddenly dry despite the champagne I barely touched earlier. The officiant smiles gently, nodding toward me. I do not look at them. I look at him. This is not about the audience. This is not about the ceremony. It is about the space betwe

  • LEVEL UP MY COLD CEO {MxM}   CHAPTER 195: DREAM'S VOW.

Dream's POV The sun rises softly through the curtains. I wake before him. For a moment I forget what day it is. The light feels gentle, ordinary, the room quiet except for the steady rhythm of his breathing beside me. Then it settles. Today. I turn my head slightly to look at him. Gloss is still asleep, one hand resting loosely near my shoulder, hair falling across his forehead in a way he will pretend not to care about later. The early light touches his face first, warms the curve of his cheek, the line of his jaw. He looks peaceful. Unburdened. I stay still, not wanting to disturb the stillness. My chest feels full, not anxious like yesterday, not restless, just heavy with meaning. This is the day I stand in front of everyone and say what I have been living quietly for months. I slide carefully out of bed, moving slowly so I do not wake him. He stirs faintly but does not open his eyes. In the living room, the apartment is hushed. The city outside has not

  • LEVEL UP MY COLD CEO {MxM}   CHAPTER 194: THE DAY BEFORE FOREVER.

Gloss POV “Then marry me already.” He said it like a challenge, like I was the one delaying the inevitable. I remember laughing, the tension in his shoulders dissolving the moment the words left his mouth. He had been pacing, revising vows, worrying about promises that were already written into our bones. I had kissed his palm in response, slow and deliberate, just to watch his composure slip. Tomorrow we would stand in front of everyone and formalize what had been true for a long time. Tonight was quieter. The apartment felt different in the way spaces do before a departure. Not empty, not anxious, just suspended. Our suit bags hung neatly near the wardrobe. My phone rested face down on the nightstand, finally silent after an avalanche of messages from friends, family, foundation staff. We had both agreed to turn everything off early. No last minute calls. No logistical adjustments. No business. Just us. I changed into something soft and familiar, the kind of shirt I had

  • LEVEL UP MY COLD CEO {MxM}   CHAPTER 193: PRE-WEDDING NERVES.

Dream's POV I did not expect my hands to shake. I have negotiated billion dollar acquisitions without a tremor. I have faced hostile boards, aggressive investors, hostile press, all with composure intact. Yet here I am, in my own bedroom, holding a sheet of paper with vows written in my handwriting, and my pulse refuses to behave. The apartment is quiet, late afternoon light stretching across the floor. The ceremony is tomorrow. Guests have arrived in the city. Messages fill my phone with excitement, congratulations, logistics. I ignore all of it. I pace. From the window to the dresser. From the dresser to the door. From the door back to the window. I read the vows again. They feel insufficient. Too formal. Too restrained. I rewrite a line. Delete another. Add something softer. Remove something that sounds rehearsed. I exhale slowly. This is absurd. I am not afraid of public speaking. I am not afraid of commitment. I am not even afraid of permanence. So why does

  • LEVEL UP MY COLD CEO {MxM}   CHAPTER 192: ENGAGEMENT PREPARATIONS.

Gloss POV “And we’re still writing it.” I replayed those words more than I expected to. Not because they were dramatic, not because they were grand, but because they were calm. Certain. The kind of certainty that does not demand applause. We were still writing it. Which meant there were still chapters ahead. Which meant this one mattered. Our engagement party approached with an energy that felt both intimate and public. It was not a surprise proposal, not a spectacle staged for cameras. We had spoken about it in the quiet way we spoke about everything important. Marriage was not an impulse. It was the next logical step in a love that had survived orchestration, silence, and the deliberate absence of both. The decision itself had been simple. The celebration, however, was not. Dream insisted it should be meaningful. I insisted it should be manageable. We compromised in the way we always did, by pretending neither of us compromised at all. The venue was the same waterfron
