The day had been quiet. Too quiet. The kind of silence that is not peaceful but more like a warning, like the air being locked breathless before a storm. I tried to anchor myself in the ordinary, Lee's crayons on the living room floor, her tiny hands struggling to stay inside the lines of her picture. Sami’s voice traveled down the hallway, a happy, high pitched giggle that should have eased me. These were the sounds of normal life but nothing inside me felt safe. My mind was restless, pacing in circles, waiting for the next thing to drop.

It came in the middle of the afternoon.

My phone rang on the coffee table. I didn't think anything of it initially, maybe a call from Adam who had stepped out for tea, maybe something trivial and meaningless. But when I reached for it, the message on the screen left me breathless.

You can't keep her away from me forever. She needs to know the truth.

I blinked. My hands trembled so violently the phone almost slipped from my fingers. My lungs felt thi

  • LOST IN THE BILLIONAIRE'S SCANDAL   Chapter 64

Maya's PovI was just about to close the curtains when I caught it. A shadowy figure standing across the street, perfectly still, like he had been waiting. Before I could stop myself, I whispered. “Adam… there's a man outside and he's staring.”Adam moved fast, his steps heavy but controlled, like a man who had been expecting this moment all along. He came to the window beside me, his hand brushing mine as he pushed the curtain back just enough to see. His body stiffened instantly. Across the street, under the weak glow of a streetlamp, a man stood staring at the house. He did not move, just stared intently at the house.I felt the air leave my lungs. It was him... I knew it even before Adam even said a word. Adam reached up and yanked the curtain shut, his voice low and steady but hard as steel. “Take the kids to the bedroom now!”“But…”“Please, Maya, don't argue. Just do it quietly.”“Adam…” My voice cracked, but the look in his eyes silenced me. He wasn’t asking, he was commandin

Maya's PovThe next day was spent mostly in silence. The children's giggles echoed down the corridor like everything was normal. It was as if life was trying to tell me it was sufficient to overcome fear. But it wasn't. Not for me.Adam walked differently that morning. His shoulders were stiff and his voice curt when he spoke to me, his mind elsewhere that I couldn't catch up. He kissed my temple before he left, his lips warm but his eyes already elsewhere."I want to run errands," he said curtly and slipped away. I wanted to pin him, to question what errands he was busy running and to question if it was anything to do with the shadow that had slid back into our lives. But something in his face cautioned me.And so I stayed back with Lee and Sami, pretending to be present while their conversation echoed through the rooms. I clapped when Lee showed us her drawing of a house with a leaning roof. I laughed when Sami constructed a block tower that collapsed with a resounding thud. Outsid

Adam’s PovI stood by the doorway, watching. Underneath the sweetness of candy and the lightness of the children’s laughter, my stomach was tight. The memory of the dream clung to my skin like sweat. And the text… God, the text. Those words burned behind my eyes no matter how much I tried to shove them away. You never told her about me, did you?I trembled just remembering the blue glow of my phone screen in the darkness, the sting in my eyes as I read and reread the message. I had shoved the phone away, but the words didn’t leave me. Now, in the morning light, they felt sharper. Cutting through me. “Maya.”Adam’s voice snapped me back. His dark eyes were already fixed on me. He always knew when something was wrong. His arms were still wrapped around the kids, but I felt his complete attention lock on me. It was unshakable.I tried to smile, even if my lips didn’t want to move. “I’ll cook breakfast.” I finally said and he gave me a look that told me he wasn’t fooled, but he let me pa

  • LOST IN THE BILLIONAIRE'S SCANDAL   Chapter 59

Maya's PovSleep did not come easily and when it did, it was heavy, restless, and loaded with unease, like I had swallowed something bitter that decided to ignore it. My body was exhausted, but my mind wouldn’t keep quiet. Images of the day flashed in and out, the park, the laughter of my children, the way I pretended to be fine when inside I was crashing and the anticipation of Adam’s action was slowly driving me crazy.Somewhen along the line, my eyes finally closed against my will and the darkness pulled me in.At first, all I saw was just a shadow. A presence, someone was following me. The image got closer so I broke into a run even though I had no idea where I was heading or why I was being followed. My legs pounded against the ground and my lungs burned as if I had been sprinting for miles, and yet I knew without doubt that I couldn’t stop now because the person was closing up on me.His steps were deliberate, slower than mine, but heavy and confident, like he was never in a hurr
