Chapter 10 –  Protecting Secrets

Despite his disbelief, it was crucial for me to ensure Nat's innocence in this matter. "Nat never mentioned you or her family," I lied. "If she did, she made sure I remained unaware."

"How did you find out then?" he inquired, referring to my parents.

"My parents are equally clueless," I fibbed. "Actually, it was quite obvious," I asserted. "Your manner of speech, the plenty guards, and my love for gangster movies made it easy to figure out." I took a sip from the beverage and sighed. "Seriously, is this just juice?" I questioned.

"What's your point?" he asked, ignoring my question, his gaze cold.

"I'm Nineteen," I lied.

"You mean eighteen. You're still a child to me," he stated without even looking at me.

Frowning, I turned to Nat, who suddenly sighed, "Don't give me that look; I never said anything to him," She accused.

"I never claimed you did," I assured her. But how did he know my actual age? I thought to myself.

"Yeah, right!" she retorted, digging into her food.
