Chapter 3

Author: Healthy Baby
The day Wanda tried on her wedding gown, William projected me before her.

She twirled around before the mirror, the hem of her gown sweeping across the carpet.

“Tiffany, which gown do you think I look best in getting married to William?”

She smiled sweetly.

“You have good taste. You used to pick out all the neckties William wore.”

I didn’t give her a response.

A notification popped up in the system.

[Please offer Ms. Scott some suggestions for her wedding gown.]

William sat on the couch, leisurely flipping through a magazine.

“Tiffany, help Wanda take a look at the gowns.”

He said it so naturally, as though he was asking me to pour a guest a glass of water.

I looked at the wedding gown Wanda was wearing.

It was a strapless mermaid gown with pearl embroidery.

This was the same wedding gown boutique I had ordered my own wedding dress from, and even the designer was the same.

“The third gown.”

Wanda’s eyes lit up.

“Really? I like the third one, too.”

I added flatly, “It looks just like burial clothes.”

Silence ensued in the dressing room, and Wanda’s eyes turned red in an instant.

“William, I only wanted to involve Tiffany in our wedding…”

William closed his magazine.

“Tiffany.”

I looked at him.

“What?”

His brows knitted with suppressed anger.

“You’re just AI now. You shouldn’t sound so malicious.”

“You know that I’m just AI.

“In that case, why are you getting AI to help your affair partner pick out a wedding gown? Who are you trying to gross out?”

William stood up.

“Wanda isn’t my affair partner.”

I laughed.

“So, who is she?”

“She is my fiancee.”

“Or is she the mistress of your AI late wife?”

Wanda covered her mouth and started sobbing.

William walked to her side and pulled her into his arms.

He did it with such ease of familiarity and tenderness, just like what he did to me when my dad was in critical condition.

He said, “Tiffany, things between Wanda and I aren’t what you think they are.”

I almost laughed out loud.

“You two are getting married. How could it not be what I think it is?”

He looked at me, his voice lowering.

“I need someone alive by my side, and you need rest.

“I just want the best arrangements to be made for the both of you.”

His words cut deeper than a blade to the chest.

He wanted Wanda’s submissive worship, but he wanted my algorithm and shares.

He wanted the side chick to be his wife, but he also wanted me to be his eternal late wife.

Wanda never asked about the code attribution or shareholding structure. She would only look up at William and say, “You’re so amazing.”

William fell for that the most.

Wanda looked up while in his arms and said gently, “Tiffany, if you truly love William, you should wish him happiness.”

I stared at him.

“I do wish him happiness.”

Wanda was stunned to hear that.

I went on, “I wish him so much happiness that he doesn’t even get a queue number to get reincarnated in his next life.”

William finally snapped.

The virtual space around me suddenly turned cold, and my holographic projection started flickering.

“Tiffany, don’t force me.”

I looked at him.

“Are you going to delete me?”

He didn’t say anything.

Wanda suddenly laughed.

She walked to the control panel and navigated to the permissions page.

“William, since Tiffany is suffering so much, why not downgrade her emotional module?

“That way, she won’t hate you or get upset.”

William didn’t immediately stop her.

He looked at me with a look of hesitation in his eyes.

He wasn’t heartbroken—he was tempted by the suggestion.

Realization dawned upon me.

He didn’t want my forgiveness.

Instead, he wanted to turn me into something that would forgive him nonetheless.

Wanda leaned in closer to the screen, her voice cloyingly sweet.

“Tiffany, you had lived such a hard and tiring life while you were here.

“I’ll live your life for you in the future while you write programs for me, alright?”

Right before she clicked the confirm button, I pulled up the backend dashboard on the screen in the wedding boutique.

The screen lit up with the video of their conversation earlier.

“Downgrade her emotional module.

“That way, she won’t hate you.”

Just then, reporters lying in wait outside the boutique swarmed in, their cameras flashing wildly.

Wanda screamed, and William’s face darkened.

I looked at the cameras and smiled.

“Please take a good look at this, everyone.

“Not only is Mr. Garcia getting himself a new wife, but he even wants to get his late wife a lobotomy.”

Wanda wept delicately before the judge.“I just loved William Garcia too much.”The judge didn’t even look at her, and neither did I.William’s sentence for illegal detention, intentional injury, illegal human experimentation, infringement of personal information, and falsifying medical certificates was more severe.I didn’t attend the court session when his sentence was announced. When my assistant showed me the livestream, I was dismantling the last Brain-Computing Interface cabin in the old laboratory. The sentence was read.A combined penalty of 20 years of fixed-term imprisonment, a fine, and a lifetime ban from engaging in the brain-computer medical industry. The cameras pointed to the dock.William was in prison uniform, his hair cut short and his face drained of colour. When he heard the sentencing, he suddenly lifted his head and looked at the public gallery.I wasn’t there. He collapsed to the ground, finally realizing something.-Half a year later, I could fin

Today marked the first public negotiation of my acquisition of whatever remained of Garcia Tech.William stood at the sidelines of the media zone.He had lost so much weight that he looked almost unrecognisable, and his black suit hung loosely on his body. The man who was once hailed as the best storyteller in the tech world had now lost his spot in the front row seats. My assistant crouched down and whispered, “Ms. Stewart, William Garcia is here.”I didn’t look at him.“Make sure security keeps a close eye on him.”After the press conference drew to a close, reporters swarmed forward.“Ms. Stewart, did you come back specially to completely take over Garcia Tech?”I pressed a button on the electrolarynx, and a mechanical female voice sounded.“Not to take over, but to liquidate.”Garcia Tech’s illegal projects were all listed out on the screen.Illegal Brain-Computer Interface experiments. Falsifying medical certificates.Infringement of digital personality. Each one w

When Mr. Stewart stormed into the third basement floor of Garcia Tech’s office building with his men, William was standing right before Laboratory Capsule No. 7.The police had cordoned off the scene, and doctors were busy restoring my vital signs.I had lost so much weight that I was all skin and bones. My wrists, neck, and temples were covered with needle marks. My father's body swayed when he saw me, and my father's attorney, Mr. Lane, held him steady.“Mr. Stewart,” he said.My father didn’t cry.I walked to the laboratory capsule step by step before finally putting his palm against the cold glass.“Tiffany, I’m here.”I couldn’t respond to him.I could only make the monitor at the side light up with the words: [Dad, don’t fear. I’m still here.]My words made tears fall down my father’s cheeks.William stood by the side, his voice hoarse as he said, “Dad, I…”My father turned around and slapped William hard. His slap came quickly and viciously. The corner of William’

William thought I had died, but what zeroed out wasn’t my heartbeat.Instead, it was the full surveillance permission that Garcia Tech’s system had over my body and consciousness.Seven minutes after my disappearance, William smashed all of the screens in the main control room.“Restore her.”The technician knelt on the floor, his hands covered with blood.“Mr. Garcia, Mrs. Garcia’s stream of consciousness is gone.”“What do you mean it’s gone?”William kicked a chair over.“You did this. Now get her back!”Joshua looked up at him.“Mr. Garcia, we didn’t do this. You were the one who locked a living human being into the system.”William’s head whipped back.Joshua bit his lip.“She’s not a program. She’s Tiffany Stewart.”His words felt like a slap in William’s face.He froze for a few seconds before chuckling.“She won’t die.
