Chapter 3

Author: Hex North
Yvonne froze and asked, "What are you doing?"

"You say he's so talented, so he should have my job."

"I'm speaking to you properly. What's your problem now?" She was annoyed, and her face turned sour.

If I kept my job, she would accuse me of picking on Jim.

Now that I was offering it up, she claimed I was just being dramatic.

Understanding a woman's heart was impossible.

I was done giving in to her.

Seeing that I did not respond, Yvonne looked even more upset. "Is this about having kids? I'm pregnant now, aren't I?

"You're a grown man, so why are you being so petty?"

She still thought I was upset about the baby. "Forget it. Let Jim be the father.”

Furious and humiliated, Yvonne threw a cup at me.

"Haven't I told you? Jim and I are just boss and employee. Why won't you trust me?"

Could a boss and employee with a purely platonic relationship be so close?

She treated us so differently, yet she was still trying to fool me.

"You're the only one who knows the truth about the relationship."

Yvonne, fuming, yelled, "If that's how it is, then give me back the account. I worked hard for a month to keep that virtual baby alive."

She said that and lunged for my phone.

I quickly stepped back from her grasp and turned my phone on to show her.

The screen showed that her account had been successfully deleted.

"Did you really think I cared about a virtual baby in an app?

"Don't worry. I didn't just cancel the account, I deleted the app too. Happy now?"

Yvonne's face was wet with tears as she looked at me, her hands thumping on my back.

"Gosh, you're so mean!"

After yelling at me, she burst into tears and ran out the door.

I used to hate making her cry.

However, seeing her cry did not shake me at all now. I was tired, so I decided to take a nap.

I had not been asleep long when my phone started buzzing with messages.

It was a notice issued just for me about my demotion.

[You wanted to step down, right? Well, here you go.]

This time, no one stood up for me. They did not want to get dragged into it.

I did not care. I took my team, and we all quit.

HR was in a panic and called Yvonne. "Ms. Rogers, this is bad. Many people are quitting!"

However, it was Jim who answered. "Yvonne, if you've got something to do, go handle it. I can pick out a pet by myself."

"You've been through a lot. This is to make it up to you. I can't just leave."

Then, he snapped to the HR, "I pay you so well, yet you disturb me over this little thing. What good are you if you don't want to work?"

"But, Ms. Rogers—"

"Enough! Decide for yourself, and stop bothering me."

He hung up, and when they tried to call back, the phone was turned off.

HR was losing it.

However, they had no choice. They had to let us go.

The impact was huge. Word got out that we were fired.

Jim's cronies were secretly happy as they told him about it.

"What did all those years together mean if someone else has taken his place?"

"The real loser is the one who isn't loved."

Their voices got louder as we passed by.

One of my teammates could no longer take it and wanted to stand up for me.

I stopped them and said calmly, "I hope you find that kind of true love one day too."

After seeing their embarrassed faces, I walked away with my team.

I stopped by the county clerk's Office to pick up my divorce certificate.

Holding the certificate, I finally smiled and said, "Today's a great day. Let's go out for a big meal!"

My teammates debated whether to go to a fancy restaurant or have seafood, arguing back and forth.

I was on my phone when suddenly, the chatter stopped.

Confused, I looked up to see a teammate pointing somewhere. I followed his gaze.

Yvonne quickly let go of Jim and blurted out in a fluster, "It's not what it looks like! Jim and I are really over."We were playing a game! I had to either hug him or drink a bunch of soda."I didn't have a choice. You get it, right?"She clung to my hand, her eyes filled with a plea for understanding.Jim chimed in with his own explanation, "It was all because of a dare, and I was the one who pushed her to do it with me. She isn't to blame."However, I pulled away from her touch and kept my distance."Don't touch me. We're divorced now, so I don't care who you're close to."With that, I turned to leave.Yvonne grabbed at me, trying to stop me, "Luis, can I please have another chance? You can hit me or yell at me."Just give me one more chance. I know I really messed up."I shook my head, not willing to give her that chance.I knew her promises were just empty words, and I could not trust her anymore. As I walked away without a backward glance, Yvonne lashed out at Jim. "T

I faced her with a cool expression."We're divorced now. Why can't I throw it away?"Yvonne could not believe it."How can we be divorced without my agreeing and signing? You're not fooling me."She had really forgotten.I gently reminded her."Remember the divorce papers we signed back when we first got married? We promised each other."Yvonne looked at me, disbelief in her eyes. She finally remembered and realized what had happened.Only then, at that moment, did she finally believe we were divorced. She stopped arguing and started sweet-talking me, holding my hand. "Jim and I are truly innocent."If you really can't stand him, I'll make him vanish from your life, okay?"Luis, after all this time we've been married, are you really going to divorce me over this?"We both cared a lot about our little home.We were splitting up, and she still thought it was no big deal.I was leaving because I could no longer take it. I did not want to live that way anymore.Yvonne saw I

  • Leaving My CEO Wife   Chapter 8

It had been ages since I was last back in our little place. After sorting out matters at the new company, I walked into our small home.Yvonne and I used to be so poor.It was just the two of us, living in a tiny, run-down room.Back then, everyone thought we were the perfect couple. No one dared to mess with our relationship. However, when the company started making money, things changed. Yvonne started hanging out in fancy places, always with a crowd. She said they were just work friends. She was always on business trips or at dinners.I believed it all.Until Jim came along. That was when I knew Yvonne's heart no longer belonged to me.On those nights she did not come home, could it really have been nothing?I did not want to think about it too much, so I had told myself it would get better.I pushed open the door. There was Yvonne, sitting on the couch. She looked surprised to see me. Soon, her expression brightened, but she tried to act tough. "I thought you said y

Yvonne scanned the room. All of Jim's buddies had left.Only he remained, standing by Yvonne's side.He caught Yvonne's eyes and quietly said, "Luis, I messed up. It's my fault."I shouldn't have lied about you to our friends."You can yell at me or hit me. Just don't be mad at Yvonne."I'll fix everything if you'll forgive me."Yvonne nodded, pleased, and tried to convince me, "Don't be too tough on him. He's just a kid who doesn't know better."He's sorry. Let it go."This happened every time.Something went wrong, and she pushed Jim forward to pretend to be sorry. Then, Yvonne stepped in, acting like nothing was wrong. Before, I might have let it slide, but not anymore.I ignored him.Yvonne's face turned sour.Jim really went for it, kneeling in front of me.He handed me a pregnancy test. "Luis, I was so wrong."This baby is yours. I'm giving her back to you."Yvonne seemed happy with what he did. Then she glared at me and yelled, "He's down on his knees! What mo

I continued to ignore Yvonne. She looked upset. She had not tried to sweet-talk me like that in ages, and I was not having it.She looked like she wanted to explode, but she kept it in check and brought over a bunch of my favorite dishes, saying quietly, "Okay, okay. After you guys enjoy this feast today, head back to the office."I'll turn a blind eye to you skipping work today."And I'm calling off that pay cut notice at the company, okay? Are you happy now?"She gave me a smile and a firm pat on the shoulder, as if to say, "I've given you a way out. Can we drop it now?"However, I just laughed, and so did my team. One of the kind-hearted team members filled her in, "Ms. Rogers, we've all quit. Didn't you know? You don't have a say over us anymore."Stop using us to push Luis around. Leave him be."Panic flickered across Yvonne's face, but she quickly got mad and blurted out, "You're kidding, right?"How could you quit without my say-so?"Stop wasting time with this talk.

Yvonne's eyes went wide with shock."When did we get divorced?"I never signed anything. How could we be divorced?"She must have forgotten the agreement we signed before.I could not help but smirk. "Isn't this what you wanted?"Now you're free to be with Jim. No more sneaking around or making up excuses."Jim's face broke into a big grin, and he moved to hug Yvonne."Yvonne, you've always told me how much you couldn't stand him. Congrats on finally breaking free!"Today, we're going to meet each other's parents and tie the knot!"However, Yvonne did not look happy. She frowned, pushed Jim away, and said in a chilly voice, "Like I said, I was just making it up to you. Don't push your luck and get the wrong idea."Then, she forced a smile and turned to me."He's just a kid and doesn't know any better. Did he say something that confused you?"He's young and a bit quick-tempered. Please, be patient with him."I promise you, nothing is going on between us."Seeing that I did
