Landon heard the sound of someone crying miserably. He pushed the door open and froze.

Blood was everywhere around Thalia's legs, soaking one side of her pants in a shocking red. And that blood was coming from between her thighs. He couldn't pretend he didn't know what it meant.

"Thalia." His voice shook as he called her name and moved toward her.

He tried to lift her up, but she gently pushed him away. She curled up on the cold floor, hugging herself as if she were holding on to that tiny, undeveloped life, the one that was a part of her.

His throat tightened.

After a moment, worried about her condition, he scooped her up anyway. She struggled desperately in his arms, but her strength was no match for his. Trapped against his chest, she felt just like that night when she'd been trapped in the snow. Sobbing in grief, she sank her teeth into his neck as she let out raw, painful wails.
