Chapter 9

Author: Light Breeze
Julian read and re-read every single word on the yellowed piece of paper, over and over again, until his eyes finally turned sore and bitter.

Suddenly, he understood the pain that Willow had been through. He understood her tears.

He finally understood why Willow had screamed at him in the parking lot, asking him why he wouldn't even spare her one minute of his time, and why he had changed so much.

She couldn't give birth anymore.

He didn't love her. However, Willow was someone very important to him. She had been with him for four years. She had been by his side when he was at his lowest, and she had also witnessed him achieving his greatest successes.

They had agreed to have two children after they got married. One would be a boy named Landon Ziegler, and the other would be a girl named Evelyn Ziegler.

Julian slowly sat down on the bed.

His usual handsome features suddenly looked like they'd aged by a few years. He grabbed a cigarette from his pocket, lit it up, and took a huge

  • Leaving You Bereft   Chapter 783

Landon stared at Thalia. The truth was, he was exhausted. In the past three days, he'd barely managed ten hours of sleep altogether. But the moment he wrapped up his work, he came straight to see her.Just then, his phone rang. It was Leslie calling. He picked up and said coldly, "Don't call me again before 8:00 am tomorrow."He hung up, tossed the phone aside, and walked over to stand by the floor-to-ceiling window. He was so restless that it almost outweighed the headaches from his toughest projects. Business was at least tangible, something he could track and control, but feelings weren't. Feelings slipped through one's hands, ruled by moods, dictated by joy, anger, sorrow, and desire.Staring out at the darkness, his mind kept circling back to that night. He told himself he hadn't been wrong. What went wrong was nothing but bad timing, a twist of fate.Over the years, he had regretted it more than once. He regretted his lack of patience, his impulsive choices. He had pushed h

  • Leaving You Bereft   Chapter 782

That afternoon, a private jet flew straight to Brindley.By evening, a medical transport van delivered Thalia to a private hospital.Landon settled her in, then rushed back to Nebula Group to take charge.…Thalia woke up at 9:00 pm that day. She opened her eyes and realized this wasn't the same hospital room. This one was newer and better-equipped. As she gazed out the window, the signs outside made it clear that Landon had brought her back to Brindley. The room was empty, but there were cameras. She knew it was a VIP ward with just one look. Her body hurt, and she was exhausted. Slowly, she curled herself into a ball in the corner of the bed, quietly staring into the night. Before long, a whole team of top doctors and nurses came in.They ran full tests on her, drafted a treatment plan, and put her on a carefully planned diet. The nurses were gentle, while the doctors were professional. She knew it was all because of Landon and the reach of his wealth. She followed everyth

  • Leaving You Bereft   Chapter 781

Landon heard the sound of someone crying miserably. He pushed the door open and froze.Blood was everywhere around Thalia's legs, soaking one side of her pants in a shocking red. And that blood was coming from between her thighs. He couldn't pretend he didn't know what it meant."Thalia." His voice shook as he called her name and moved toward her.He tried to lift her up, but she gently pushed him away. She curled up on the cold floor, hugging herself as if she were holding on to that tiny, undeveloped life, the one that was a part of her.His throat tightened. After a moment, worried about her condition, he scooped her up anyway. She struggled desperately in his arms, but her strength was no match for his. Trapped against his chest, she felt just like that night when she'd been trapped in the snow. Sobbing in grief, she sank her teeth into his neck as she let out raw, painful wails. He just let her bite him as she pleased. At that moment, he regretted everything. He shouldn't h

  • Leaving You Bereft   Chapter 780

Ten minutes later, a black Bentley rolled through the hospital gates. The night hung thick and silent. Inside the hospital, the corridors were hushed, each step of polished shoes striking crisply against the floor.Landon pushed open the door to the VIP ward. The room was dimly lit, but Thalia wasn't asleep. She sat curled against the headboard, and her arms were wrapped tightly around her knees. Her eyes were wide open, staring blankly ahead, seemingly lost in thoughts he couldn't decipher.Neither the sound of footsteps nor the door closing drew her out of it. She just stayed there, sealed inside her own world."Thalia," he called her name softly. After a long while, she lifted her eyes to him and just stared at him silently. Her lips trembled as if trying to shape his name, or maybe not. No sound came out at all. Then, her tears slipped down one by one.She looked so fragile that it broke him. He couldn't believe that in just a few days apart, she had unraveled like this. He

  • Leaving You Bereft   Chapter 779

The woman rested against Landon's shoulder, and her gentle features were half-hidden beneath loose strands of hair. She looked delicate and pure, yet her face was pinched with pain, appearing fragile and vulnerable.Landon's expression softened.A moment later, the woman furrowed her brows, then collapsed into his arms.He held her close, softly patting her back, and for a moment, they could have been mistaken for a couple.Thalia stood quietly as she looked at them. Strangely, she couldn't bring herself to blame him for being with someone else and holding her in such a way, because she wasn't his real girlfriend. She was the one he'd snatched away from Matthias, and after that confrontation, he had flown into a fury and withdrawn all his affection from her.Swallowing the bitterness, she turned to leave. And just then, Landon lifted his head. His gaze locked onto hers, and their eyes collided. The silence was unbearable. Her lips trembled, and her slender throat quivered befor

  • Leaving You Bereft   Chapter 778

Thalia couldn't bring herself to hate Selena anymore. How could she hate someone who was already gone?Tears streamed down her face, but she didn't let them fall onto Selena's. She was afraid it might disturb her rest. Through sobs, she whispered, "Next time around, be careful who you trust. Don't let anyone fool you again."But Selena could no longer answer. She would never scold her or spoil her again. She was dead.…Thalia spent a full day and night handling all the funeral details. Using Landon’s card, she bought Selena a burial plot that cost about 12 thousand dollars.Selena's name was carved on the headstone, plain and simple. That day, the cemetery was quiet, blanketed in snow.Thalia bent down, placed the urn inside, and watched the staff close the lid and seal the grave. She laid a bouquet of white lilies at the headstone. The photo on the stone showed Selena in her prime, while she still had black hair, red lips, and a soft, radiant smile.Standing in the falling
