Chapter 3

Author: Windy Whispers
That place held everything I had given up for Selena.

Now, I would find them and bring them back, piece by piece.

I parked the car in front of the abandoned warehouse that used to be my studio.

Three years ago, I disbanded the team and abandoned the title of my genius hacker persona, "A", all for the sake of taking better care of Selena.

At the time, I sealed everything away in this warehouse and told myself that my family was more important than my career.

Now, I realized just how ridiculously wrong I had been.

As I pushed open the dusty doors, the familiar tang of metals and electronic parts rushed into my nose.

Then, I headed straight to the deepest part of the studio and yanked off an enormous dust cover. Underneath it was a matrix composed of row upon row of precision servers and over a dozen monitors.

The instant I flipped the power source switch, a soft humming began while the monitors gradually lit up one by one, bathing me in a cold blue light.

I sat down and allowed my fingers to fly across the keyboard, reawakening the codes and commands I had sealed away three years ago.

I had to look into just what Shane was up to. There was definitely something up with that woman mentioned in the pregnancy checkup report, Leah York.

After all, Shane was an incredibly conceited man. If he really had found his true love, a woman willing to give him a child, then he wouldn't be acting the way he had earlier tonight—a complex mix of gloating smugness and resentment.

Instead, it was more like he was using an extreme method to declare his ownership of Selena and, at the same time, thoroughly snuff out my wishful thinking.

In no time at all, I succeeded in hacking through an encoded database, allowing me access to all information on Leah.

She was Shane's current girlfriend and a small-time model with hardly any popularity. Her résumé was squeaky clean, but it didn't take me long to discover something strange.

The last photo she had posted on her social media was from one month ago. In it, her abdomen was still flat as she lounged on a beach.

However, the pregnancy report stated that she was supposed to be 12 weeks along, which was three months.

The timelines didn't align.

I continued to dig further by checking her transaction records and whereabouts the past three months, only to realize that there was nothing related to a pregnancy. In fact, the establishment she frequented the most was actually a private aesthetic clinic.

My lips curled into a cold smirk. As I expected, there was something fishy going on.

Following that, I hacked into the clinic's system and easily found Leah's file. She wasn't pregnant at all, and the reason she had gone there was to undergo liposuction.

As for the doctor who had signed off on that fake pregnancy checkup report, he happened to receive a transfer of 500 thousand dollars into his bank account yesterday.

The sender of that money was none other than Shane's assistant.

Everything became clear to me.

From the get-go, Shane had simply been putting on a show. All that bullshit about finding his true love was nothing but a lie meant to aggravate Selena and humiliate me. He had wanted to prove that even if he didn't want Selena anymore, she was still his possession.

And Selena, my dear wife, actually believed in such a lousy lie and willingly cooperated with him, turning me into a toy to be played with.

I gathered all the evidence, encrypted it with a password, and then sent it to another cloud drive for safekeeping.

By the time I finished, dawn was already peeking over the horizon.

Leaning back in my chair, I stared at the data and numbers flashing across my screens as my hatred and fury threatened to consume me whole.

Three years of enduring and contributions, yet all I received in return was an elaborate scheme to humiliate me. Both Shane and Selena had treated me like a fool, one whom they could walk all over as they pleased.

"Shane Johnson, Selena Sander, did you two seriously believe I was an easy target to bully?" I growled.

Shutting off my computer, I stood up.

Outside the warehouse, the early morning light was piercing through the darkness. I thought this was the perfect symbolism for the show that was about to start.

I was done holding back. I wanted them to pay dearly for their actions. I wanted Selena to know just what she had given up on.

More importantly, I wanted Shane to understand that a gardener could also sometimes turn into a scythe-wielding grim reaper.

The video depicted Shane and Howard sitting in a dimly-lit private room.Shane slid a bank card to Howard before saying, "There's five million dollars on here. All you have to do is follow my instructions and slander Adrian's name at the celebration dinner. Once you've succeeded, I'll give you another five million dollars. "Remember, you have to say he stole your hard work and had you sent to jail."The audio was extremely clear, and Shane's face had been enlarged so much that every pore could be seen. The scheming look in his eyes had nowhere to hide.Immediately, Shane's face went deathly pale."T-This is fake!" he yelled hysterically."A fake?" I laughed. "Mr. Johnson, you seem to have forgotten that I work in this industry. Did you think that I wouldn't plant spies by your side when you had someone secretly take photos of me?"Following that, a second video began playing on the screen. This time, the focus was Selena. She was in a coffee shop, a woman sitting across from

"Selena, do you think that all men are like you, willing to betray everything for the sake of their goals or benefits?"Stunned at my words, Selena fell silent."Did you just assume that all you needed to do was put on this pitiful act, drop a few tears, and say a few nice words, and then I'd forget about all that you've done to me and return to your side like a fool? Well, you're wrong."I stood from my seat and looked down at her."The only reason I agreed to this talk was because I wanted to tell you one thing—the game is only just beginning."With that, I left without looking back, even as Selena's muffled crying sounded from behind me.I had thought that would be the end of it, but it seemed I had underestimated her stubbornness and craziness.Just as I assumed I had everything under my control, she and Shane prepared their final attack against me.…Gaining the Skynet Project resulted in ATech's name spreading far and wide in the industry, and its net worth skyrocketed.

Meanwhile, Sander Group also received a nice surprise from me.An anonymous email had been sent to Samuel. In it was a detailed report about how Shane's company had been evading taxes for the past few years, as well as evidence of his involvement in unfair competition.Even just one of these crimes would be enough to sink Shane's company.Samuel's hands shook as he read through the report. He never would've thought that the business partner he had been so proud of would turn out to be a ticking time bomb. The moment something happened to Shane's company, Sander Group, which was deeply tied to them, would definitely also suffer severely. He immediately called Shane and roared with unbridled fury, "Shane Johnson, just who exactly have you offended? You might have a death wish, but don't get us involved in it!"Shane was already at his wits' end and could only try to placate Samuel in a humble manner.Meanwhile, the instigator of all this—me—was currently lounging in my studio. Samuel then turned to look at Shane, who had joined the meeting due to being a collaboration partner.Shane had an equally dark expression, as Adrian's return was akin to a resounding slap across his cheek. The "gardener" he had always looked down upon had suddenly become his strongest opponent yet."Mr. Johnson, what do you think of this situation?" Samuel's tone was subtly interrogative.Forcing himself to smile, Shane replied, "Don't worry, Mr. Sander. That guy has been gone from this industry for three years, so he's definitely out of touch with the newest techniques. The Skynet Project is ours for the taking."Despite his reassuring words, deep down inside, he didn't dare take Adrian lightly. After all, he knew better than anyone just how capable A had been back then. After the meeting ended, Shane sought out Selena."That ex-husband of yours sure knew how to hide himself." An undercurrent of mockery lined Shane's words.Selena chewed on her lip, her eyes flashing with hatr

Tears clung to Selena's lashes as she cried pitifully—a sight I once couldn't bear to see."I know I was wrong! I really do! Please give me another chance, okay? I won't ever meet with Shane again, and I'll have that tattoo removed! Let's just live a good life together, alright?"However, I merely fixed her with an indifferent gaze."Give you a chance? I already gave you three years' worth of chances, Selena. They ran out long ago, starting from the moment you had me take those harmful pills every day for the sake of another man. The instant you stood by and did nothing but watch as Shane humiliated me in public, all that was left between us was hate."A tremor coursed through her body at my words as she finally realized that I was serious this time. Her crying abruptly stopped and was replaced by an almost hysterical madness."Adrian Luther, who do you think you are?" She jumped to her feet and ripped the divorce agreement into pieces. "You're nothing but a dog the Sander family

When I returned, Selena was sitting on the living room couch. She had changed into loungewear and tied her hair up with half-hearted effort. Her complexion was somewhat pale, while a cup of coffee rested on the coffee table, long cold by now.Judging from her appearance, she hadn't slept the whole night. The instant she saw that I was back, she stood up, a barely perceptible hint of anxiety crossing her face."Adrian, where did you go last night? I was very worried about you."I stared at her, finding her words incredibly ironic. She was worried about me? If she truly was worried about me, she wouldn't have said such hurtful words last night.Instead of answering her question, I came to a stop right before her."Let's talk," I said placidly, my voice calm beyond measure.Selena was momentarily surprised, but then she nodded and sat back down on the couch. She seemed to think that I would back down from the idea of divorce now that I had calmed down."Adrian, I know what I sai
