Nicholas's POV

I was sitting awkwardly, holding an untouched wine glass in my hand, while the atmosphere around the dining table felt increasingly uncomfortable. Hazel next to me looked impatient, repeatedly moving her spoon and fork, but rarely touching the food in front of her.

Charlie, who was sitting next to her, looked restless, his eyes kept glancing at the door, as if waiting for something. And that's when the door opened, and Sabrina appeared in the doorway.

I was shocked, and for a moment, time seemed to stop. Seeing Sabrina standing there, with an expression full of longing, my heart felt tight. Her eyes searched for Charlie, and when she saw the child, her anxious face turned softer, as if a burden had been lifted. Charlie, who was sitting next to Hazel, heard the sound, and without hesitation shouted happily, "Mommy!" she exclaimed in a voice that almost broke, jumping up from her chair to run towards Sabrina.

Sabrina's POV "Hazel," I called softly. She looked up from her plate and looked at me. "Yes?""How does it feel to be back at the apartment?" I asked, cautiously, as if the question might break something fragile.Hazel was silent for a moment. Her spoon stopped moving, her eyes lowered slightly before finally looking up at me again with a faint smile, a smile that wasn't happy, but more like gentle resignation. “A little empty,” she finally answered. Her voice was low, honest, and it made my chest throb painfully. “Usually I wake up to the sound of you or Charlie. Your house oddly enough, it feels like home to me too. Now, when I open my eyes, all I hear is the sound of the air conditioner and the windows. It’s quiet. But…” she sighed, “I have to get used to it. I can’t just hang around forever and let people talk nonsense.”I stared at her for a long moment. Part of me wanted to say, “Just let people talk,” but I knew Hazel was s

Sabrina's POV The car's wheels slowly turned over the asphalt, still slightly damp from last night's rain. The wipers occasionally swept across the windshield, leaving clear streaks that revealed the brightening morning sky. I gripped the steering wheel tightly, trying to calm myself with the soft music playing on the radio. However, my mind was completely off the road. Images of Hazel kept filling my mind, she was probably rearranging her boutique's decorations, checking orders, or simply sitting and looking at the shelves already filled with her hard work. I longed to be there, keeping her company. But I also knew my job right now was at home, preparing to welcome Charlie later that afternoon.Suddenly, a long honk from the opposite direction made me jump. I turned quickly, a motorcycle was zigzagging, too close to my lane. Reflexively, I turned the wheel to the left, the front tire hitting a deep puddle. Water sprayed high, soaking part of the windshield. T

Sabrina's POV As I was helping Charlie comb his hair in his room, my bedroom door opened. Nicholas came out, his work shirt neatly pressed, his face still wrinkled, but his eyes immediately fixed on Charlie. He stared at the boy for a long moment, then took a deep breath. I could read in his eyes guilt, remorse, a desire to mend the situation but not knowing where to begin."Son," he said softly, leaning over and patting Charlie's head. "I know you miss Mom Hazel. I miss her too. But Mom Hazel isn't far away, is she? She's still in town. We can see each other anytime."Charlie just nodded, without smiling.Soon, the three of us were sitting at the dining table. Breakfast was simple, toast, scrambled eggs, and warm tea. There was usually small talk in the dining room, Hazel's jokes or Charlie's funny comments. But this time, all I could hear was the occasional clatter of spoons and plates.I tried to lighten the mood by placing a slice of bread on Cha

Sabrina's POV That morning felt empty. An odd silence.Usually, when I opened my eyes, the smell of toast greeted me from the kitchen. Or at least the sound of Hazel humming softly as she prepared Charlie's lunch, making the small house feel warm and lively. But this time, all I could hear was the slow ticking of the clock and the wind blowing through the windows.I paused on the edge of the bed for a moment, taking a deep breath. It felt empty. It felt strange, like the house had lost its rhythm again.I remained sitting on the edge of the bed for a long time, the blanket half-draped over my lap. The sun was starting to creep through the thin curtains, but the light felt unusually cold. Usually, when the light came in, I would hear Hazel knocking on the bedroom door, joking, "Wake up, don't be a polar bear." I would grumble, and then we would laugh. A simple morning that had turned into a calming little routine. Now, all that remained was th

Sabrina's POV That morning felt strange. The house, usually bustling with the voices of Hazel and Charlie, felt like it was holding its breath. The chill from last night's rain still hung in the windows, and I stood for a long time in the kitchen, just staring at the steaming cup of tea.Hazel would be packing today.Charlie was still asleep in his room, probably pretending not to wake up. Nicholas sat at the dining table, reading the news on his phone, but I knew his eyes were just staring at the screen, his mind elsewhere.“Hazel awake?” he asked without looking up.I nodded slightly. “Yes. She's been in her room. I think she's been packing.”Nicholas sighed softly, “Hmm.”We were both silent, letting the sound of the clock ticking and the patter of rain from the gutter fill the background. It felt strange, too quiet.I finally worked up the courage to go upstairs to the room that had been Hazel's for the past fe

Sabrina's POV Nicholas, who had been watching, finally lowered his head. He sighed softly, then headed for the kitchen. His footsteps were heavy, not from fatigue, but from knowing there was nothing he could do to fix this feeling. A few moments later, the sound of running water from the faucet was heard, followed by the clink of glasses placed on the table. He returned with a glass of water, placed it on the table near Hazel without a word, and then sat down in the chair across from her.I shifted my position and sat beside Hazel, trying to offer support without having to say anything. My hand touched her shoulder, just briefly, but it was enough to make Hazel turn her head briefly with a small, grateful smile. She then looked down again, staring at Charlie, who still didn't want to let go.“I want to too, son. But sometimes, people have to go home. So they can get their lives in order. When Mom Hazel has settled everything, who knows, maybe we can be togeth
