Like that, four years went by.
Mr Shawn came out of his room wearing a black tuxedo and holding a briefcase. He was on a call which ended upon entering the kitchen.
"Good morning Mr Shawn," greeted Nora.
"Good morning," replied Mr Shawn.
"Daddy, daddy," Lily called in her small voice running into Mr Shawn's arms.
He dropped his briefcase and carried her in his arms. Planting a kiss on her forehead, he tickled her. Lily laughed and wrapped her arms around Mr Shawn's neck.
"Stop tickling baby Lily," said Lily in a small adorable voice.
Nora smiled and suggested, "Sir, Lily is 5 years old now and I think it would be good for her to start school now. She is very smart and will learn more in school,"
"Do you have some schools in mind?" asked Mr Shawn.
"Nora was surprised by his question. Most parents prefer choosing schools for their children, why is Lily's situation different?"
Snap! Snap! came Mr Shawn's figures and Nora snapped back to reality.
"I would do a quick search and share what I find with you," said Nora.
"No need, get a school for her and let me know what she needs." Mr Shawn said and shifted his gaze to the child in his arms.
Mr Shawn smiled at Lily, "You will be going to school, yeah."
He planted kisses on both cheeks, tickled her and put her down.
"Daddy is going to work. I will be back soon, be good to Aunty Nora and Aunty Abigail," he said and Lily nodded.
With this, he left. Nora heard the car engine and the car driving out of the compound. Lily went to hug Nora.
Abigail came downstairs for breakfast. She sat at the table with Lily who kept asking her one question after the other. Abigail couldn't take it anymore and said to Nora.
"Find me a school that is a two-hour drive away from this house and a driver."
Nora was surprised by this request but before she could say anything, Abigail shouted, "Now!"
She quickly left for her room, grabbed her phone and started a search for schools. Lily saw the angry look on Abigail's face and asked, "Did Aunty Nora do anything bad?"
"Go to your room," said Abigail, "Now" she yelled.
Lily jumped in fright and ran with tears in her eyes to her room. Nora met Lily entering her room and followed her. She found her in the corner of her room, on the floor hugging her knees. Nora felt pain in her heart for the little child. This is not the first time Abigail has yelled at her for no reason. She went to her and carried her in her arms.
"Does Aunty Abigail hate me?" Lily said sobbing.
Nora calmed her down.
"No, she doesn't. Aunty Abigail is just having a bad day. You see, Aunty Abigail had a nightmare last night and so she is not feeling okay," Nora said trying to cheer Lily up.
Lily asked, "If I give Aunty Abigail chocolate will that make her feel better?"
"Yes, it will," Nora replied with hope. "But now Aunty Abigail needs some space. Just let her be for now, okay" she added.
Lily nodded and stopped crying. "Can I go say sorry to Aunty Abigail?" asked Lily.
Nora was not sure how Abigail would react to Lily and didn't want Lily to feel sad again. So she thought of a better way.
"Yes, you can but wait till daddy is home then you can say sorry to Aunty Abigail in front of daddy," Nora said knowing Abigail would not dare to yell at Lily in front of her father.
Lily nodded with a smile. "Now let's go take a shower," Nora said with a smile.
Later that afternoon, Lily was watching cartoons in her room and Nora was with Abigail downstairs
"You found the school?" she questioned sounding like she wanted to get rid of the child already.
"Yes, Ma'am," replied Nora. "It's a two- and half-hour drive from here. I was able to arrange for a driver to pick Lily up and drop her at school and bring her home when she closes,"
"Good, how soon can she start?" asked Abigail.
"I am not sure," said Nora, "I have not called the school yet," she added.
"Stupid. Call the school now and tell them I want her to start school tomorrow," Abigail yelled.
Nora quickly grabbed the house phone and, picking up the school's contact from her search, placed the call to the school. She was on the call for fifteen minutes and finally turned to give Abigail the feedback. "They are on vacation ma'am. School reopens in two weeks," she reported.
Abigail furrows her brow. "Fine. I will put up with her for two more weeks. Get out of my sight,"
Nora left for the kitchen. All this while they were both unaware of little Lily watching and listening to them from the space in between the wooden rail upstairs. She went back to her room and felt she needed to apologize to Aunt Abigail.
Later that evening. Nora was preparing supper when she heard Mr Shawn's car driving in. A few minutes later, the front down opened and Mr Shawn walked in. He changed his shoes and went straight to his room after greeting Nora.
Abigail came down to the dining room and Lily ran past her into her dad's room. Ten minutes later, Mr Shawn came out carrying Lily in his arms. Pulling one of the seats out, she placed Lily on it and sat on the seat next to her. Abigail looked at the father and daughter and quickly looked away with no expression.
Nora served the dishes and Lily turned to face Abigail,
"Aunty Abigail, baby Lily is sorry for making you angry this morning. Baby Lily, promise to be good and not upset Aunty Abigail again," She said, got down and went to hug Abigail.
Because of her height, she hugged the legs of Abigail as she sat down not sure of what to make of what was happening now. "Baby Lily will protect you from the nightmare too," Lily added while hugging her legs.
Abigail was taken aback by Lily's words, Nora looked stupefied and Mr Shawn was confused about what was going on. Abigail quickly remembered the child's reaction to her yelling at her in the morning. She smiled awkwardly and spoke.
"Aunty is fine," she said in a calm voice hoping Mr Shawn would not suspect anything.
Mr Shawn looked at Abigail angrily but quickly smiled when Lily turned to look at him. Supper was very quiet. Nora took Lily to her room and Mr Shawn pulled Abigail to his room. Upon closing the door. Abigail wanted to kiss him but he pushed her away.
"We talked about this. Don't be mean to her. She is my daughter," he snapped at her.
Abigail threw him a side glance rolling her eyes and said, "Fine, I won't be mean to her. Just give me less time with her,"
"Okay," Mr Shawn agreed and they both ended up in the bed.
Finally, two weeks passed and it was time for Lily to start school. Mr Shawn left for work as usual. Abigail was still in her room. Nora got Lily ready for school. A car honked outside and Nora came downstairs with Lily.
"This is sad, her first day at school and she had to go alone with a driver," Nora thought as she walked Lily down the stairs towards the front door.
"Aunty Nora, will you come with me to school, please," Lily asked with a sad look.
Nora's heart was broken hearing Lily's sad small voice and the look in her eyes. She called Mr Shawn and asked for permission, which he granted. Nora sat in the car with Lily and drove off, for two and a half hours, to Lily's school......
Derrick went silent and lowered his head shocked by the news of his father's death."I was informed yesterday but I knew you were out on a date and I didn't want to spoil your evening with such news," Luis added and Derrick just nodded."I will be returning to Florida, later today. Just let me know if you need anything," Luis said and got up to leave.Derrick got up and escorted Luis to the door without saying anything but just nodding to whatever Luis was saying. He closed the door after Luis had left and out of anger punched the wall so hard, that he got injured in the process. As if he could not feel the pain, he gave the wall another punch. He turned and pressed his back to the wall and sank to the ground.Luis walked to his car and called Isabel."Hello Isabel, are you busy?" he asked."No, what's up?" replied Isabel."Kindly come over to Derrick's place. He is not alright. I just told him about his father," replied Luis."Okay, I will be there in 10 minutes," Isabel replied."Gre
Derrick lowered his head, disappointed. He did not know how to react to the news he had just received. It was his father all along. All the problems he and Lily went through were because of his father. Technically, Lily never had a moment of peace because of him. He recalled what Lily had said about having months of peace since he was out of her life. She was right after all. "When did you find out?" Derrick directed his question to Luis."Err, things become clearer the day you left Florida. I had always had my suspicion though," replied Luis."Why didn't you say something to me?" Derrick queried."Would you have believed me then without the undeniable evidence?" Luis asked advancing towards him.Derrick went silent and Luis patted him on the shoulder."I am truly sorry about your father. I wish he didn't do what he did," Luis consoled and left the two standing there."And you," Derrick said shifting his attention to Isabel who was still standing with him. "Did you ever love me or was
Luis, knowing what was going to happen, had already taken the first flight to Washington to defend Derrick.Arriving at Washington Central police station, Derrick saw on the TV screen what had transpired the night before, while he was in bed hugging Lily's dress. He was shocked to see what was showing on the screen."So that is why he got arrested?" Derrick thought as he was sent to the withholding cell.Derrick knew his father could do the unthinkable like when his father killed his friend and made him lose his memory but that was a long time ago. He thought he had changed."Drug and weapon trafficking?" Derrick thought. "When did he start doing such business?" he continued in his thought. "But why? As the head of Homeland Security, he earned good money, so why would he do this?" he thought. "Or did someone set him up?" he frowned while trying to understand why his father would do such a thing."Lucky you. Your lawyer is already here," came the voice of an officer interrupting Derric
Derry stared at Luis not sure how to react to the information."Does your wife know?" Derry inquired."No," Luis said and turned to face Derry. "When I found Derrick, I sent Isabel to his location to monitor him. Well, I didn't give her so many details aside from telling her I want her to monitor Derrick and report his activities to me and also to keep an eye on his father, Mr Mingle. I had found out the two were living together. Isabel got herself employed in Derrick's new company, Armani or something. Some weird name, I don't know how he comes up with company names. Anyway, Isabel got close to him and he found solace in her. I am not sure what happened. Isabel is very professional in her dealings but she yielded so I let them be," he explained."So Derrick doesn't know," Derry said."No, he doesn't. Isabel is a CID, but now she is in love with Derrick and she will come clean after our operation. She is a strong woman; she can handle rejection if things don't go well," Luis said raisi
Derrick spent some time with his children before leaving for his apartment. He decided to stay around for a while before going back to Washington. Derrick was back in his apartment, he stood in the living room recalling memories of himself and Lily. His eyes shifted to the dining area and he remembered the first time he had cooked for Lily. He recalled all the good times they had together. He went up to the bedroom. He opened the door and the familiar fragrance that used to greet him when Lily was in the room was no longer there. He scanned the room and the dressing table still had Lily's stuff on it. He opened the closet and her clothes were still in there. Neither Lily nor he returned to the apartment after Lily was rushed to the hospital. He removed one of Lily's dresses from the hanger and hugged it. It did carry traces of her scent. He walked to the bed and lay down on the bed hugging Lily's dress feeling regretful. His phone rang interrupting the moment. He searched for it and c
Derry left and Lily turned to face Derrick. There was silence in the room for 10 minutes but it felt like a whole day for Lily. Derrick cleared his throat and got up to sit next to Lily but she stopped him."Please, just sit where you are," Lily said with a straight face and Derrick sat back on his seat."I am sorry about that," Derrick said."Okay. Why do you want to see me?" Lily asked going straight to the point and Derrick exhaled deeply."Lily, I came here to apologize. No matter my explanation it doesn't change the fact that I abandoned you when you needed me most," Derrick began and Lily looked on with a straight face, constantly reminding herself Derry was just in the living room to keep herself calm."So, why did you leave? All I remember was you apologizing," Lily asked and Derrick remembered that day.He had spoken to his father and he left the hospital after. He recalled Lily's state when he left. Derrick narrated their entire life together as a couple and explained he didn
