Chapter 2

Author: Missing Orange
Alden looked around to make sure no one was paying attention. Then, he lowered his voice and took a step closer.

“We’re at the office. Let’s find somewhere else to talk. This isn’t appropriate.

“It’s not what you think. Celene’s reputation is at stake. Do you really want people to be pointing fingers at her?

“Let’s find a place to sit down and talk this through properly.”

‘Talk?’ I thought.

I had seen this with my own eyes. What was there to talk about?

A man who was from the dead and a newborn baby…

Was that not enough?

I shot him a cold glare, shoved him aside, and stormed straight toward the elevator.

Rage burned in my chest and threatened to consume me.

All I wanted now was to drag Celene out and confront her face-to-face. I wanted to see what other excuses she could come up with.

I moved with lightning speed. Just as I kicked open the office door, Alden finally arrived.

But the office was empty.

Alden closed the door and blocked the prying eyes outside.

“I already told you! Celene is busy. We can talk about this another time or discuss it at home.”

He spoke as if it were the most natural thing in the world, but I was so furious that my head was spinning. “Home? Where exactly?

“To the apartment we bought for our marriage, or the three-bedroom place you two call your love nest?”

I had bought her a three-bedroom apartment because I was concerned that she was working too hard, only to learn that she had built a new life there with another man.

It was disgusting!

Just then, a pair of adorable little girls ran out of the break room.

The two children looked remarkably alike, with fair, delicate skin that made them utterly charming.

If they were not Celene’s children with another man, I would have felt sorry for them.

“Daddy, why are you back?”

“Daddy, do you miss Mommy again?”

The two children spoke up one after the other.

I looked at them and finally understood.

All her excuses of late-night overtime work, her reluctance to drive home, and her staying up at the office were to spend time with her other family.

That was a place that felt more like a home to her than the marriage she shared with me.

On her desk sat a family portrait of the four of them. Celene and Alden nestled together, each holding a child in their arms.

That image truly made them look like a happy, loving couple.

I could no longer contain my anger and immediately dialed a number. “I want you to get all the evidence of Celene’s affair, as well as the paternity test results for her and the children, as soon as possible.

“I want her to leave with nothing. You know what to do.”

I hung up.

Alden’s face darkened. “Are you going to ruin Celene?

“Do you have any idea how much blood, sweat, and tears she’s poured into running this company? How can you ruin it just like that?”

The way he so eagerly defended Celene left me momentarily dazed.

It was as if I were the one who had committed an unforgivable sin.

“Alden Lane, who do you think you are? What right do you have to question me here?”

I glared at him coldly.

His face darkened. He took a few steps closer, still holding the child, and lowered his voice so only I could hear. “Emrys Clark, don’t you think we look a lot alike?

“Actually, you’re just my stand-in. Celene married you only because she thought I wouldn’t be coming back. Otherwise, do you think she’d ever marry you?”

His words were shameless, yet they hit the nail on the head.

I looked so much like him that even our friends struggled to tell us apart. If we did not look so alike, I would not have found any of this.

Provoked by his words, my composure snapped, and I raised my fist to punch him.

But before I could strike, he screamed and clutched the child as he fell backward onto the floor. His face was etched with terror.

“Emrys, how could you be so cruel? Hitting me is one thing, but you’d hurt my child, too?”

He dropped the child onto the floor with a thud.

Immediately, he scrambled to his feet and rushed over to pick up the child. “Baby! Are you okay?”

“Emrys, I know you like Celene, but she and I already have children. We’ve been together for so many years. Why won’t you just let go?”

As soon as he said that, the onlookers could no longer contain themselves and rushed in.

Most of these people had never seen me before, and even if they had, they would not know who I was.

All they saw was a furious and aggressive person, while Alden looked distressed with a child in his arms.

They scrambled to help Alden to his feet, then turned to confront me.

“You’ve gone too far! Even if you like Ms. Zeller, it doesn’t give you the right to hit someone!”

“Exactly! You wouldn’t even spare a newborn baby! You’re out of your mind!”

“Who gave you the nerve to act so wild here? Do you even know whose turf this is?”

The twins started crying. Their shrill wails added to the chaos.

“You’re picking on Daddy, and you’re picking on my little brother, too!”

“I’m going to beat you up! You big meanie!”

The two little girls began kicking and punching me.

“What’s going on? Why isn’t anyone working? Why are you all gathered here?”

Celene’s stern voice rang out, and the crowd instinctively parted to make a way.

She walked in and saw Alden sitting on the sofa with red, swollen eyes.

“Celene!” Alden immediately threw himself at her with tears streaming down his face. “If you’d been a moment later, the kids and I would’ve been beaten to death!”

She wiped his tears and soothed him softly. “Don’t be afraid. I’m here. No one can hurt you.

“What on earth happened?”

Only then did her gaze fall upon me. The two little girls were still kicking and punching me.

She instinctively panicked but forced herself to remain calm.

“Celene, save our child! He not only hit me but also tried to throw our son to his death!”

Upon hearing this, Celene completely lost control. She rushed toward me and slapped me hard across the face.

“Emrys, who gave you the nerve to hurt my child?

“There’s a limit to your nonsense! Do you think just because I’m paying your father’s medical bills, you can take advantage of me? Are you sure that I won’t stop his treatment after this?”

With the divorce settled and a new CEO appointed for the subsidiary, my life was gradually getting back on track. The day I had agreed to return home with Zane finally arrived. When we got home, I saw my mother warmly greeting two women.I knew right away she must be setting us up on a blind date.Though we felt a bit helpless, we managed to get through the meal and saw the two women off.“Your father’s condition has improved significantly after he was transferred to the new hospital.“I never imagined that woman’d hide his condition and claim he wasn’t fit for a transfer. It seems she’d been planning to use your father to manipulate you all along.”My mother’s words made me realize just how many mistakes I had made by trusting Celene so blindly.“Yes, I never expected that my negligence would cause Dad to miss out on treatment for so long.”I felt terribly guilty, but my mother was not angry at me. Instead, she said cheerfully, “It’s alright. Your dad’s doing well now. He’s a

Alden struggled to stand up straight. He glared at Celene standing before him. “What kind of person are you? You were married, yet you still seduced me!“If I hadn’t set my sights on your money, hoping for a better life, why would I even look at you?“I must say, thanks to you, I was able to raise my kids well. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have known how to support these children!”His shameless attitude made Celene’s face grow even paler. She could not believe that the man she had treated with such sincerity had been deceiving her all along.“I’m going to kill you!”She lunged forward and grabbed Alden by the throat.Alden was, after all, a man. How could he possibly lose to a woman?Within minutes, he had her pinned down. “You’re nothing but trash! You’re the last person to talk about love and loyalty with me!“Back then, when we were broke, didn’t you say you’d dump me?“Why should I be loyal to you when you’re not?“Someone like you doesn’t deserve to be loved!”With every wo

At my words, Celene’s expression immediately darkened. She did not even seem to feel the smarting of her cheek as she stared at me in disbelief. “What do you mean by that?”“It means you’re the one who can’t have children, not me.“As for this report, I forged it on purpose because I was worried you’d be heartbroken if you found out you couldn’t have children.“I never imagined you’d be foolish enough to cheat on me without verifying a single thing.”I watched her with a cold smile. With every word I spoke, her expression grew grimmer. Finally, she could no longer keep her composure. “What are you saying? How could that be possible?”“Why not? With my connections, forging a document for you isn’t impossible.“Besides, you don’t even know what this kind of report looks like, do you?”I let out a bitter, mocking laugh.I never imagined that the root of all this would stem from my own consideration for her.I was worried she would be heartbroken if she could not have children

Celene stared at me in disbelief and shook her head vigorously. “No… that’s not true! How could you possibly be the owner of this company?“You’re nothing but an uneducated househusband who spends all day asking me what I want to eat, what I want to drink, and when I’m coming home. How could you possibly own a company this big?”She still refused to accept reality, but the facts were right in front of her.The hospital’s surveillance footage did not lie, and the assistant’s reaction was certainly not an act.Her position as CEO was, in fact, truly because of me.Yet she had committed so many mistakes behind my back.“I always owned all of this. You were just too foolish to see it.”I never deliberately hid my identity. It was just that her mind was so completely occupied by Alden and herself that she never paid attention to me.Naturally, she never noticed that I often held online meetings in the study and frequently went out to negotiate business deals.“We’re getting a divor

My older brother’s assistant caught me as I stumbled. My older brother, Zane Clark, looked at me. He looked a bit stern and a little disappointed.Behind him stood a group of people, led by the general manager of the parent company.Celene’s assistant turned pale and instinctively took two steps back.Zane was the head of the largest law firm in Beirat. He had full authority over the legal affairs of all our family’s companies.Naturally, this included the company Celene worked for.It was merely one of the many subsidiaries under our family’s umbrella.Although the assistant had never met Zane in person, she had seen reports about him in the news. Not long ago, he had won a high-profile economic dispute case that made national headlines. It was a case everyone believed was a sure loss, yet he turned the tide and miraculously secured a victory. If Zane insisted on auditing the books, Celene had absolutely no grounds to refuse. Her assistant knew full well that those account

“Yours?”Celene sneered with her eyes brimming with mockery. “Emrys, have you been living off others for so long that you’ve lost your mind?“You say the company is yours. Where’s the proof?“Or do you think that just because you say it’s yours, it becomes yours? Why don’t you go ahead and claim the whole world is yours then?”As soon as she said that, she spun around, rushed to the desk, and pressed the intercom button. “Security, come get this lunatic out of here!“Take him straight to a mental hospital. He’s making a spectacle of himself!“Consider it a kindness. I’ll cover his expenses at the mental hospital!”Before long, several security guards stormed in and surrounded me.I gave them a cold glare. “You’d better think this through. If you lay a finger on me, you’ll lose your jobs.”My imposing presence had them exchanging nervous glances. Not a single one dared to step forward.“What gives him the right to boss me around in my own company? Get him!” Celene ordered shri
