Maya woke up early that morning with a heavy feeling in her chest. Sleep had not been kind to her; she had tossed and turned, replaying her last tense moments with Colton.

His silence since then had been unbearable. She could deal with his anger, his shouting, even his harsh words but his silence was the worst. It made her feel cut off from him, and she hated it.

She knew her brother’s temper well. He always carried things in his heart too strongly, and sometimes it twisted into anger before he could control it. Maya also knew that if she didn’t face him, that wall between them would grow taller.

So she decided she would go to him, no matter how nervous she felt. She dressed simply, pulled her hair back, and grabbed her car keys. As she drove out of the Denovan estate, her fingers tapped restlessly against the steering wheel.

  • Longing For My Ex-Wife   Shattered Edges

The room was quiet except for the faint ticking of the wall clock. The curtains hung half closed, blocking most of the light. A dull shadow spread across the floor, where strands of hair were scattered like fallen feathers.Lena sat on the edge of the bed with a blank face, holding a pair of scissors in her hand. Her fingers gripped it tightly, almost painfully, as if letting go would mean losing control. She lifted a lock of her hair and cut it off without care. The uneven strands dropped to the floor, mixing with the others. Her breathing was shallow, her lips pressed together. She did not blink much, as though she were stuck in a trance. But in her head, it was not silent. The voices from jail came back to her. The way the guards shouted. The cold meals shoved at her. The sneers of other women locked up with her, whispering and laughing when she cried at night. Every day in there felt like dying slowly. And for what? Her chest heaved, and she clenched the scissors tighter. For Maya

  • Longing For My Ex-Wife   The Dinner Announcement

Maya sat in the sitting room with Anika curled up on her lap, the little girl softly playing with the braid in Maya’s hair. For once, Maya felt settled, her heart slowing to a quiet rhythm after the whirlwind of emotions she had been through. But peace never lasted long in this house. When Mr. and Mrs. Denovan walked into the room, Maya noticed their faces right away. They were trying too hard to look composed. She gently lifted Anika from her lap and set her down on the sofa.“Maya,” Mrs. Denovan said softly, “we need to speak with you.”Maya’s stomach tightened. She stood slowly, her hands clasping together nervously. “Is something wrong?”Her father’s deep voice filled the room. “Not wrong… but serious. Let’s sit.”The three of them settled in the lounge. The golden lamp lit their faces, and Maya could see how tense her parents were. Her mother leaned forward, reaching for Maya’s hand.“This morning,” Mrs. Denovan began, “we received a letter. From the Carter family.”The name made

  • Longing For My Ex-Wife   The Proposal

Grandma Carter sat alone in her study, the morning quiet except for the faint ticking of a grandfather clock. The curtains were drawn halfway, letting in a dim light that spread across the polished wood of her desk. She leaned forward, her hands resting on the carved armrests of her chair, her sharp eyes fixed on the sealed envelope before her. This letter, written under her strict instructions, was more than ink on paper..it was her strategy, her move in a game she had no intention of losing. She had tried to bring the Denovans into her company through business, but they had refused. That insult still burned in her chest, but now she had found another way to tie them to her.Her cane rested against the side of her chair, within easy reach. Each time her thoughts circled back to the Denovans’ refusal, her fingers twitched, aching to slam the cane against the floor in anger. But she forced herself to remain still. Her anger was not to be wasted in outbursts. Anger, when sharpened, beca

The gates of the city jail opened with a groan of iron and concrete. Daniel stood outside, leaning against his car, his jaw tight as his eyes searched the shadow beyond the gates. When Lena appeared, a hollow ache filled his chest. She looked smaller than before, thinner from weeks of confinement. The clothes she wore were plain and loose, the color drained from her face. But her posture was still stiff, her eyes sharp, carrying the same pride and defiance that had followed her into prison.Daniel took a step forward. “Lena.”Her gaze flicked to him, flat and emotionless. “Let’s just go,” she said. No greeting. No gratitude.Daniel swallowed the disappointment rising in his throat. He opened the car door for her, and she slid inside without another word. The moment the engine hummed to life, a small voice came from the back seat. “Mom…”Jamie’s eyes were wide, full of hope and fear at once. He leaned forward slightly, his little hands clutching the seat in front of him.Lena’s head tu

Maya’s lips still burned from Elias’s kiss, her body pressed against his, her heart racing so hard she thought it might break her ribs. For that moment, the world outside had vanished. His hands on her face, the taste of his breath, the low voice confessing how much he missed her it was everything she had wanted and feared all at once. She had whispered back, her voice shaky, “Me too…”But before she could sink deeper into him, the door burst open.“Maya?”The voice cracked like thunder.Colton stood at the doorway, his eyes wide at first, then narrowing into fire. He froze only for a heartbeat, long enough to take in the sight of Elias’s hand on Maya’s waist, their faces still close, her flushed lips giving away what had just happened. The silence that followed was heavy, almost unbearable.Colton stepped inside, his jaw tightening until his teeth ground together. “What,” he said slowly, his voice thick with rage, “is going on here?”Maya gasped and pulled back, though Elias didn’t r
