“I love coffee, you see. So I always want to be at my brot- at Grian’s coffee shop.” Nikki is also in on the lie. The coffee shop is owned by her family, specifically her brother. She didn’t want to do it at first but she eventually got persuaded.
“I’ll get these for my brothers,” Fatima whispered to Grian which made Chris annoyed.
“If you’re going to say something, let us hear it as well,” he complained and she almost rolled her eyes. “Leave her be,” Grian said and sighed.
After they had their dinner, Fatima hurried outside when she found out what time it was already. “I’ll take you home, it’s dark now.”
“We’re coming as well-“ Nikki covered Christopher’s mouth and laughed.
“Both of you get going now, we’ll just call our driver. Bye!” She winked at Grian and gestured to them to go. Christopher tried to retaliate but the two already got in the car and left. “What was that for!” Chris exclaimed and she shrugged.
“They look good together,” she said and his eyes widened.
“What?! Are you insane!” He scoffed and crossed his arms. She eyed him before raising an eyebrow. “Why are you acting like you’re jealous? You’re marrying Hannah! Let Grian have a love life, besides, he liked her when all of you were still studying!” Nikki said and crossed her arms.
“How’d you know that?” he asked her sister.
“He told me before Fatima applied at the coffee shop.”
WHEN GRIAN AND Fatima arrived at her home, she bid him goodbye. He was about to return to his car when Timothy came running their way. “Fatima!” he exclaimed happily and hugged her.
“You’re very active today, did something good happen, hmm?” she asked and he nodded.
“The landlady gave me new clothes,” he said and she smiled together with Grian.
“I got food for you and Phil, go bring this inside.” He took the food and ran to their house. Fatima chuckled before turning to Grian.
“He’s my youngest brother.” His mouth agape before nodding.
“Who takes care of him when you’re gone and Philippe is gone as well?” He curiously wondered about their current situation.
“The landlady helps us even if we pay the rent late,” she said and chuckled. He smiled sadly as he watched her make light of their bad situation. “You can get going now,” she added.
“It’s nice to have dinner with an old friend,” he said and she chuckled.
“Yes, it was.”
“See you tomorrow, Fatima.” He entered his car and before driving off, Fatima waved at him. He smiled as he continued driving. Why does his heart beat fast even after years of not seeing her? She really is something.
[Flashback Start]
February 14
Grian was walking at the school grounds holding chocolate and flowers in his hand. It’s currently Valentine’s day and he can’t help but smile while holding his gifts. It’s been a while since he liked anyone, and he likes her too much to let this chance pass.
He looked at the court and saw Christopher sitting in a chair while playing his guitar. A flock of girls surrounded him while he played a song. “This song isn’t just for anybody, it’s for my lovely friend, Fatima Mendez.” The girls clapped and Grian watched from afar. Fatima was pushed to the front as he continued singing.
Grian started walking to them and Chris finished the song. “Will you be my girlfriend, Fatima?” Grian froze in place after hearing those words come out of his mouth.
(Please say no, please..) he thought to himself.
“Yes! Yes!” She hugged Christopher, shattering Grian’s heart. He lost his grip on the flowers and dropped them on the ground. He approached his friends and Fatima waved at him.
“Hey, Grian! Where’ve you been?” He forced a smile and showed the chocolate he’s holding. “Some girl gave this to me,” he said and she laughed.
“Why do a lot of girls like you, hmm?” she teased.
“And… we have great news! I’m dating Christopher now,” she said and Chris stood up and hugged her from behind. “Why don’t we all eat together later? My treat!” Chris exclaimed.
Grian clenched his jaw and fist. He forced a smile and uttered, “Congratulations.”
“I forgot something, I’ll go back to the classroom. You two love birds, enjoy yourself, okay?” He smiled fakely at the two before turning around and leaving. His tears started to fall as soon as he turned around. He gripped the chocolate harder as he walked to his classroom.
February 21
“Stop that!” Fatima frustratedly screamed at Grian who’s drinking alcohol.
“I thought you already quit! Now you call me in the middle of the night to pick you up because you’re drunk?! Are you insane!” She slapped his face, trying to wake him up from his half-asleep state. “Aish, you’re ruining my expensive dress.” She tried pushing him away but he leaned towards her and hugged her.
“Fatima..” he whispered and pouted.
“What now?!” She screamed in anger and he hugged her.
“I liked this girl.. b-but she l-liked my best frie..end. I didn’t kno..w she did, but if I knew, I would’ve stopped myself from liking her… Now I’m too late in pursuing her!” he said half-asleep. She sighed and patted his back.
“There’s a lot of girls out there, you can move on and date someone else. You’ll be fine, okay?” He chuckled at what she told him.
“How can I be fine when I see her every day?” He sobbed as he opened his eyes.
“Avoid her?” she said, not really knowing what to advise her broken-hearted friend.
“I can’t.. I can’t avoid you, Fatima.” She froze and stared at him.
“M-me?” She tried to comprehend what he said. She laughed, thinking he’s just drunk and has no idea what he’s telling her right now.
“You’re the person I like, stupid.” He closed his eyes and laid his head on her shoulder.
[Flashback End]
FATIMA WAS LEAVING for work when she saw William walking to her house. She stopped walking and waited for him to get to her. She smiled and waved her hand and so did he. “What happened at the bar?” she asked and William shrugged before looking at her with a smile. “Nothing much, he wanted to fire me but he knows I’m the most valuable employee he has,” he bragged while smirking. “Fatima, there’s a parent’s teacher conference tomorrow, can you come?” They turned around to her brother who seemed shy with his request. “Of course, I’ll go with you.” Philippe smiled and hugged her before running to the side of the street to ride his bike to school. “That boy really needs some new bike,” William commented before turning to her. “Let’s walk to your work?” They both went out to the busy streets and walked on the sidewalks. The moving cars, tall buildings, and pedestrians walking are what make a city. It’s just like any other day.
“There’s a lot of customers coming in,” she answered while pouting. Christopher scoffed before smiling. “I’m a regular customer here, okay? Give me another coffee then.” She stared at him before going at the back and making him another drink. She brought it to him and he stared at it. “The design isn’t perfect,” he commented and she almost scoffed. “Do you want another one?” she politely asked. “No.” (You made it so it’s fine,) he thought to himself. While working, she looked at Christopher who’s typing on his laptop. His hair was blond more than six years ago but now he dyed it black. His eyes are still beautiful with the color of the sea. His eyebrows, nose, jawline, all perfectly match each other. And his lips.. the most kissable lips. She got back to her senses once he moved his gaze towards her. She cleared her throat and held her hear
FATIMA AND WILLIAM got ready to go to her brother’s school because of the conference and the card of Philippe. It’s been a while since she went to his school so she’s a bit nervous. The last time she went there, the other moms judged her for how she dressed and how young she is. They all thought she’s the mother of Philippe which she didn’t mind because she acts like his mother figure. “Call me dad,” William teased Philippe and he scoffed in disgust. “No way!” He chuckled loudly to his response and so did Fatima. William didn’t have to come with her but he insisted on coming and so he did. Once they arrived at the school, they got out of William’s car and walked to the building. As they were walking, they met Christopher and Grian walking inside as well. “Sir Grian!” Phil greeted and waved his hand. The pair turned ar
“The world is small, isn’t it?” he murmured and she looked up at him and furrowed her eyebrows. “Huh?” she asked. “Nothing.” He cleared his throat before looking at Philippe who’s preparing his coffee. After he got his coffee, he went back to his seat to continue what he was doing on his laptop. More customers came in and they got busy real quick. Fatima was fixing a sign outside and Christopher looked over at her and smiled. He thought about helping her with putting up the sign or not. He stood up from his seat and walked outside the shop. “Need any help?” She looked at him and she shook her head. He sighed and leaned against the window. “Did you grow up here?” he questioned. “Uh
Fatima didn’t go to work the next day, making Grian worried. Christopher isn’t here today and told Grian to go to the coffee shop for him. But today, both Fatima and Philippe didn’t go. He’s worried something could’ve happened to her as he waited. “Can you manage here alone?” he asked Nikki and she nodded. He grabbed his coat before going outside on the cold windy day and getting in his car. He started the engine and drove off in the direction of Fatima’s house. A couple of minutes later, he arrived at her place and got out of his car, and knocked on her door. A couple of minutes passed and no one was answering. He looked around and saw another house next to Fatima’s and he knocked there. The door burst open and saw a woman getting pushed outside. “Leave them alone,” the middle-aged woman told the other woman who has b
Philippe walked in front of Grian and he followed behind till they reached the hospital. They took a turn and rode an elevator to the third floor before turning a corner again and arriving at the hospital room. Phil opened the door and let Grian inside. Fatima looked shocked to see her friend with her brother. She stood up from her seat and approached the pair. “Why are you here?” Grian shrugged before showing the food he brought with him. “He’s here for the girl he likes or something, not sure,” Phil casually teased before giving Grian a look. His eyes widened and raised a fist at Philippe. (He likes someone?) Fatima thought to herself. “I bumped into your brother at the lobby. Uh, here’s some food,” he said before smiling at her and she grabbed th
“Care to explain or continue your lie?” Christopher and Fatima are both sitting across from each other at a table in the coffee shop. She was contemplating what she should answer him and if she can get out of the situation. She was fidgeting in her seat like a fugitive caught by a cop. “Listen, I told you you heard me wrong-“ she got cut off. “Tell me the truth or you’re fired from this job,” he threatened and her eyes widened. She crossed her arms and scoffed. “You can’t. Grian owns this shop,” she fought back and he laughed. She looked at him with furrowed eyebrows. “Honey, this coffee shop is signed under my name. Grian is my secretary, I asked him to interview you,” he said with a smirk and her jaw dropped. She looked at Nikki who smiled guiltily.
After Nikki was done eating, she went back to work so Fatima could also eat her lunch. She took her food and sat at the table as far away from the two as possible. “I’ll ask her out to be my date,” Grian said teasingly to Chris before patting his back and leaving to approach Fatima. He was about to follow his friend but he suddenly received a phone call. “Don’t,” she said when she saw that Grian was about to sit in front of her. He stood straight up and smiled. “So, uh- how’s your younger brother?” He started a conversation and she eyed him before answering. “Good. Still alive and well,” she said and he nodded, trying to think of anything else to say. “What can I do to make it up to you, hmm?” he asked and she didn’t respond. He nodded to himself be
