Chapter 5 I only want her

“I only want you to protect her until she reaches Prince Qing’s residence. As long as she reaches Prince Qing safe and sound, why should we care what she does with her life after that?” said Chu Yunshen.

“I understand,’ said Xiaowu as he nodded.

“Tell the 8th prince that I don’t like the women he picked and to stop sending them over,” he said coldly. He sounded like when Cheng Xiaoxiao first met him, so she suddenly shivered. She couldn’t die yet. When her spirit returned to her body, Bai Wuchang came after her and said something.

“Oh, yes, I forgot to tell you. The Netherworld doesn’t have your records. So you can’t die before we find the right reincarnation. Or else your soul will get extinguished. If you encounter any danger, call me using the jade pendant. But you can only use it three times.”

Tsk. These damned Hei Wuchang and Bai Wuchang!

So for the sake of protecting this little life of hers, she had to remain as a cat obediently. And be at her master’s beck and call.

Chu Yunshen put out the candle. He didn’t lock her up in the cage and carried her instead. Then he got into bed and placed her in his arms before thoughtfully covering her with the blanket.

“…”

In that case, since he offered himself, if she didn't take advantage of him, then she was no man… oh wait, correction. Then she was no woman!

The next day, Chu Yunshen woke up at daybreak again. But he woke up because a ball of fur was smothering him.

When he opened his eyes, the little fellow was embracing his face and in a deep slumber. And the cat almost completely buried him.

So Wu must have sent the lion cat as tribute so that it could suffocate him to death.

Chu Yunshen pinched the little fellow by the neck and lifted her up. The cat slept with such determination that he was honestly impressed. He turned to toss her onto the couch. Then he took his sword and went to the courtyard to practice swordplay.

He wanted to conduct military inspection today, and it would two to three days to finish it. At first, Chu Yunshen only planned on going with his personal guards. But on second thought, he ordered Xiaowu to bring the kitten along.

He strung a bell to her ankle and said, “Don’t get lost. The army isn’t as comfortable as the residence. You have to stay with me at all times.”

Cheng Xiaoxiao meowed softly. Then she sat on his shoulder with tacit understanding.

Chu Yunshen, “…” sure enough, she did not leave him at all.

Although the master looked valiant and remarkably good looking in the armor, there was a cat on his neck. The cat squatted there with the wind messing up its fur and meowing from time to time. Then a subtle feeling developed in Xiaowu’s heart due to this strange pairing.

Master… can you still remember what your dominance and strength was like?

The party magnificently went towards the cliff. When Cheng Xiaoxiao saw the countless people kneeling on the roadside, she was shocked. She used to think he was a prince with a lot of lands. So at the very best, he might be an idle prince that sat around doing nothing. But from the looks of this spectacle, it was definitely beyond the means of an average prince.

Did Chu Yunshen consolidate power and plan to seize the throne?

Oh god! If the royal family became worried and fearful of his disloyalty, then he would always have to think ahead and watch his back!

Even if he was loyal, he might get suppressed by the other royalty all the time. Then he would have to live in a stifled and unbearable manner. But if he truly harbored rebellion in his heart, then wow, would it mean that she would unlock a second hidden mission?

And she could help him charge into the capital and usurp the throne! They could embark on a new chapter in their story as a matchless emperor and empress with this fine country in the grip of their hands! Then she wouldn’t have transmigrated for nothing!

Just the thought was exciting!

But what did it have to do with her? She was leaving a month or so.

She couldn’t help looking at Chu Yunshen’s face. Although he was low key, he looked extraordinary. If he coveted the throne, he would probably have a difficult life ahead of him. But it was enough for her to enjoy herself now. He would have to clear the rest of the levels on his own.

After traveling for half a day, they finally arrived in the mountains.

They were truly at the frontier. There were probably over 10,000 troops judging from the tents and scale of the fortress. This prince was in charge of defending an important frontier juncture!

“Welcome, Your Highness!”

The resonant voices stole Cheng Xiaoxiao’s attention. When Chu Yunshen got off the horse, a few generals dressed in armors came over and knelt in front of him. Chu Yunshen handed the horse to Xiaowu and said, “I just came for a look. Please carry on. Get Mo Chen to come with me.”

“Then the generals replied, “General Zhenxi just went to the martial arts training ground. Allow me to get him!”

“It’s okay. We can go together. So I can see how the troops are doing with their training.”

“Yes, Your Highness.”

They walked inside and went past many tents. Then a spacious martial arts training ground emerged right at the end. Several shirtless men drummed spiritedly. And beneath the square stage, people were embroiled in fights.

Shortly after Chu Yunshen stepped onto the stage, he suddenly heard a gust of wind. Then he turned sharply to dodge a black silhouette before grabbing him. When Cheng Xiaoxiao saw a sword pointing at the tip of her noise a hairsbreadth away, she almost choked on her breath.

“You’re surprisingly still as sharp,” said Mo Chen as he narrowed his eyes and smiled.

“Of course. But you seem to be weaker now,” replied Chu Yunshen.

When Mo Chen lowered his head, he shockingly realized there was a dagger pointing to his waist, then he smiled bitterly and said, “It looks like I lost.”

“Mo Chen! How dare you! Apologize to His Highness this instant!” yelled a general beside him sternly.

Mo Chen glanced at him before sheathing his sword. Then he said lazily, “How could I have hurt His Highness?”

“That’s because you weren’t aiming for me but for her.”

When Chu Yunshen pointed to the kitten on his shoulder, he didn’t sense her there as expected. Then he became stunned. He had no clue when she got off his shoulder.

“Oh, yes. I forgot to tell you. I think I frightened that cat away,” said Mo Chen as he stood where he was and scratched his head innocently.

Chu Yunshen, “…”

“Forget it. How can it be your pet if it is so cowardly?” said Mo Chen, “If you like cats, I’ll give you three civets some other day as a token of apology.”

Chu Yunshen unsheathed his sword and pointed it at him. Then he furrowed his brows tightly as he said, “Find her! I only want her!”

A shred of surprise swept across the bottom of Mo Chen’s eyes. Despite Chu Yunshen’s mercurial temper, he rarely genuinely blew up. Moreover, he was pointing a sword at him. Could he honestly be angry?

All because of a cat?

Cheng Xiaoxiao ran up onto a tree. A single thought kept running through her mind. Chu Yunshen was a lunatic, so all his friends were lunatics. She wasn't interested in hanging around to get crazy with them!

She didn't want her spirit to get extinguished before she could be reincarnated!

There was a commotion in the crowd. The soldiers that were previously training were suddenly gathered together. Xiaowu stood before them and held up a piece of paper. An appalling drawing consisting of a flatbread-shaped face and a few crooked lines was presented to the troops as Xiaowu spoke, “Listen up. This is His Highness’ pet. Take a good look. She’s white and looks like this!”

Cheng Xiaoxiao, “…What on earth did he draw?”

That drawing was so terrible that it could invoke public outrage! Who was that?

She had perfectly fluid lines, mesmerizing, and magnificent fur. In what way did she even remotely resemble the portrait Xiaowu was holding of her?

“Split up and search! Dismissed!”

Cheng Xiaoxiao shivered. Judging from the huge number of people here, Chu Yunshen was determined to find her.

Cheng Xiaoxiao climbed to the top of a tree. As the shrubbery here were all tall and huge, no one would be able to find her here so quickly.

She climbed all the way to its top and looked down. This height was enough to make most people giddy. Fortunately, she used to be a burglar. Even after she became a cat, her skills remained intact.

Suddenly, she heard a chirping. Then she spotted a fallen nest on the branch next to her. There were a few baby birds crying piteously for food inside. Their feathers had just started growing, and the tender yellow color on the corners of their beaks had yet to disappear.

So there were little birds!

They were so adorable!

The little birds kept craning their necks and chirping. One of them even went right to the edge of the nest. So she hurriedly used her paw to block its way. Then she said happily, “Are you hungry? I have no food. Where are your mom and dad?”

A sudden gust of wind came from behind.

Then Cheng Xiaoxiao instantly felt a cold murderous intent.

She turned her head around robotically.

A snow-white eagle landed on her back and stared at her fixedly with its orange eyes.

As she held onto the baby bird that was about to fall from the nest, she stared wide-eyed.

This scene looked a little misleading.

“Fri…friend… you’re mistaken. I’m just…”

The snow eagle flapped its huge wings and shrieked loudly.

The eagle’s razor-sharp claws were coming for Cheng Xiaoxiao. They were so strong that they could rip her to shreds anytime. As her mind went blank, she shuddered and slipped. Then she fell tumbling down from the tree!

She let go of her hand. But the little bird that she saved from falling out of the nest came falling down along with her!

HOWL HOWL HOWL!

At this height, even if a cat had nine lives, she would perish!

Then she recalled the jade pendant on her neck. Didn't Hei Wuchang and Bai Wuchang mention that if she got into life and death situations, she should call them? There was no better time than now to call then.

“Help me, Wuchang!!!”

With a thud, she heard a loud noise sound behind. Then Hei Wuchang appeared before her, still dressed in a suit. He greeted her with a silver knife in his hand, “Oh! It’s you again. What did you…”

As he was about to finish his sentence, he smiled as he crashed right onto the ground.

Cheng Xiaoxiao and the little bird landed on his back together and bounced a couple of times even.

“Thanks, friend!” Cheng Xiaoxiao hurriedly got up and thanked Hei Wuchang for his selfless contribution. Then she turned and darted away.

The eagle’s cries came diving down. Hei Wuchang was dumbfounded. Something else suddenly crashed on him again the moment he stood up. Then he got thrown back onto the ground.

Hei Wuchang was heartlessly used as a landing pad. Then attacked by an eagle. “…”

Cheng Xiaoxiao kept running nonstop. She knew that the eagle wouldn’t let her off easily. But when it found its baby, it would probably stop chasing her. So she kept running into tricky corners to avoid it. When she finally got too exhausted, she stopped. Then she heard a chirping sound out of the blue.

Hei Wuchang said resentfully to her, “That’s the little guy you left behind.”

At that, he threw the little bird in front of her and said, “You used the jade once. Take care. I’m halfway through my steak. So bye now.”

When he finished his words, he disappeared.

Cheng Xiaoxiao looked at the cute little bird chirping at her feet. She felt like it was as good as an atomic bomb.
