Chapter 5

Author: Triple Threat
Leonard's POV

The moment the plane took off, I leaned against the window, feeling something inside my chest settle quietly.

It wasn't pain. Rather, it was relief.

The city lights outside grew smaller and more distant. The building that housed Parker Group was now nothing more than a blurry speck of light.

Looking at it, I smiled.

Leaving wasn't nearly as hard as I'd imagined.

I had once thought I couldn't survive without Yvonne. But now that I was actually on a plane, with her number block

Leonard's POVA reporter asked Yvonne, "Ms. Parker, are you making this public apology because you want Mr. Graham to come back to you?"Yvonne fell silent for a moment. Then, she replied, "Yes. I've realized my mistake. He's the one I love. If he's willing to come back, I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to him."Jessica was sitting beside me, squeezing sunscreen onto my arms. She nearly squeezed the bottle flat the moment she heard Yvonne's statement."As if! She'll spend the rest of her life making it up to you? That's rich," she spat. "Where was all that concern before? Leonard, she's just putting on a show."I smiled. "I know."Jessica still looked worried as she glanced at me. "Y-You're not going to forgive her, are you?"I turned to look at her.Jessica had contacted me almost immediately after resigning. I had just landed in Seldmark and was waiting for my connecting flight when she called. She had been crying hard on the phone."Cheer up, Leonard. Ms. Parke

  • Lost the Job, Lost My Wife   Chapter 13

Third-Person POVYvonne's voice was quiet as she said, "I'm sorry. I didn't handle things the way I should have. That said, Leonard will always be my husband. I'll bring him back."Henry stared at her in disbelief. Then, he rushed forward and slapped her across the face. The sharp crack of the slap echoed through the living room."I hope you rot in hell!" he screamed. "You betrayed both him and me! Someone like you deserves to end up alone!"With that, he ran out of the house in fury. The door slammed behind him.Yvonne sat on the couch. Her head was still turned from the force of the slap. Her cheek burned, but she didn't move a muscle. After a long while, she covered her face and let out a soft chuckle. Her eyes started to redden as she laughed.Henry was right. She deserved it.…Henry left the country soon after the incident. Before he left, he published a long blog post. He laid out nearly everything that had happened between him and Yvonne over the years. He admitted

  • Lost the Job, Lost My Wife   Chapter 12

Third-Person POVYvonne sank back onto the couch as the alcohol churned in her head. When she closed her eyes, Leonard's face filled her thoughts. The way he had smiled at her and the way he looked down when he was disappointed flashed across her mind. She thought of how he had stood in her office that afternoon, calmly telling her, "I'll leave you two alone."Leonard was already saying goodbye to her then. She had just been too sure of herself, believing he'd never leave her.…While Yvonne was half-asleep that night, she heard the front door unlock.Someone quietly stepped inside the house.Yvonne groggily opened her eyes and saw a blurry figure approaching her. The person put a hand on her shoulder and tried to help her up.She caught the scent of perfume, one that wasn't mine.Too drunk to think clearly, she instinctively grabbed the person's hand and rasped, "Leonard…"The person froze. A second later, a sharp cry rang through the living room."What did you just call

  • Lost the Job, Lost My Wife   Chapter 11

Third-Person POVWhen Yvonne went home that night, the house was quiet. The living room lights were off, and the kitchen was missing its usual smell of a home-cooked dinner.Leonard's shoes were gone from the shoe cabinet, as was the briefcase he always kept by the door.Standing in the entryway, Yvonne realized just how empty the house felt. She used to complain that he left too many traces of himself around the place. The vase by the door, the trivet on the dining table, the throw blanket on the couch, and the sticky notes on the refrigerator were all stuff that she thought was pointless. They were still there, but somehow, they felt lifeless.Leonard had left a handwritten sticky note just a few days ago. "Your stomach medicine is in the second drawer on the left. Lay off the iced coffee. Don't forget to pick up your medical report on Friday."Yvonne reached out and peeled one of the notes off the refrigerator. Her fingertip lingered over his handwriting. She suddenly thou

Third-Person POV"Ms. Parker, what's the point of calling Leonard your husband now?" Jessica asked.Yvonne looked at her.Jessica's eyes were red-rimmed, and she showed no fear of Yvonne as she said, "If Leonard really is your husband, then why did you give Henry the promotion? Do you have any idea how long he worked for that position? Three years! He was the first one in the office every morning and the last one to leave.""When he was trying to land the Quinn Capital account, he slept three hours a night for an entire week," she recalled. "Once, he was in so much pain from his stomach that he turned pale, but he still forced himself to sit through dinner with the client."Jessica clenched her fists. "You didn't know any of that, did you? You never cared enough to notice."Yvonne's fingers trembled.Jessica continued, "Leonard lost 13 pounds in the month before the promotion was announced. We all told him to slow down. He said he could push through, that he'd been waiting three

Third-Person POVYvonne had finally realized that Leonard's actions hadn't just been him being reasonable.Leonard had simply been so deeply disappointed that he couldn't even be bothered to explain himself anymore.Someone in the office tried to break the tension by forcing a laugh. "Ms. Parker, Henry was only trying to look out for you. Leonard's gone. He's just an employee. Surely, spending the evening with Henry at his fan event is more important.""Exactly, Ms. Parker. The event is about to start," someone else quickly chimed in. "You and Henry should get going. You wouldn't want to miss out on spending time with your husband."Yvonne's face fell at the mention of the word "husband".She slowly turned toward the person who had spoken and asked, "Who did you say my husband is?"The employee froze, while the office fell completely silent.Henry went rigid, too."Who told you that Henry is my husband?" Yvonne asked, enunciating each word clearly. No one said a word. The peo
