Chapter 7 A Car Accident

Nancy could hardly comprehend Spencer's last two sentences. Her heart felt as though it had been violently wrenched out by some unseen force. Her ears were still ringing with the recent announcement, the news that clawed at her very soul.

Teresa was pregnant!

Spencer, having been married to Nancy for six months, had treated her like something to be avoided at all costs. Not only had they not shared a bed, but even the slightest intimate gesture had been rebuffed by him. And now, he had gotten another woman pregnant behind Nancy's back?

"Spencer, have you forgotten what you promised me when we got married?" Nancy stared into his eyes. He had clearly promised never to get involved with Teresa again after they were married, as long as Nancy left the Lawson family and quit showbiz. She had even sacrificed all her hard-won achievements over five years to pave the way for Teresa's success.

The blood and sweat she poured into her work might not be much, but she had given up her family, her friends... everything for him. Her life was all about Spencer and nothing else.

Yet his way of reciprocating her sacrifice was to ignore her for half a year after their marriage and keep his unwavering promise to another woman.

"Nancy..." Spencer's gaze was filled with regret, but he could not find any words to explain himself.

Perhaps he had made up his mind that day to discuss divorce. That was why he could tell Nancy without reservation that Teresa was pregnant. His eyes were firm, revealing a heart that only had room for another woman.

"I'm really sorry, Nancy."

"I don't want your apology. I want an explanation. We both know how Teresa got everything she has now! You begged me to give her everything I had! You promised never to leave me, and now?"

Silence.

"I fulfilled every promise to you, even tolerated your betrayal! Even after our marriage, you still wouldn't part with her. You answered her every beck and call but avoided me like the plague. And now you've allowed her to become pregnant? Spencer, what do you take me for?"

Faced with Nancy's stern questioning, Spencer, always so gentle and smooth, was at a loss for words.

He reached out to pat Nancy's shoulder, attempting to soothe her, only for her to step back, avoiding him. Spencer's hand froze in place, and he glanced awkwardly at a passerby's surprised look.

They were in an upscale residential area, and there might be people who knew them.

"Nancy, let's find another place to discuss this," Spencer finally said.

"Why?" Nancy sneered. "Are you feeling ashamed of your dirty deeds?"

Her sarcasm made Spencer frown. "Nancy, I've always wanted to tell you that I hate this aggressive side of you!"

Nancy's personality was akin to a rose with thorns. While beautiful and vibrant, she also brought a sense of pressure. In contrast, the gentle and charming Teresa was more comfortable to be around, and her vulnerability awakened a man's protective instincts.

After a half-minute standoff, Spencer turned to the girl in his arms, his tone softening. "Teresa, get in the car. I need to talk to your sister."

At Nancy's sudden shout of "Don't go!" Teresa obediently nodded, but then...

Nancy, in her haste, reached for Spencer's arm and accidentally brushed against the girl he was protecting. Teresa let out a sharp scream as if Nancy had pinched her hard.

Seeing this, Spencer pushed Nancy away. Caught off guard, she stumbled and fell at the road's edge. Pain shot through her body, and she couldn't stand up. Rain blurred her vision, and she faintly heard the urgent honking of a car horn.

She saw Spencer trying to come to her aid but being held back by Teresa. Before Nancy could react, a piercing sound of screeching tires assaulted her ears.

"A car accident!"

"Somebody's been hit!"

"Nancy..."
