Chapter 3

Autor: Nameless
"Vivian, do you really love me?" I asked.

"Julian, of course I love you."

She leaned in and kissed my forehead.

"I know this is hard for you right now. Don't worry. I'll face every challenge with you."

As Vivian gently comforted me, she subtly waved one hand behind my back.

The doctor immediately understood and stepped closer.

Still consumed by my disappointment in her lies, I finally said the words that had been weighing on my mind for so long.

"Vivian, we should get a—"

The next second, a cold sensation entered my veins, drowning out the final word, "divorce".

A familiar voice sounded beside me.

"Jules, get some good sleep tonight. Once the surgery is over tomorrow morning, all of this will be behind us."

My consciousness grew hazy until I finally passed out.

In a daze, I could only feel the ceiling fan spinning above me. The constant beeping and clattering of medicine filled my ears.

I forced my eyes open and realized I was lying on an operating table, with several doctors preparing the equipment around me.

With what little strength I had left, I grabbed the attending doctor's hand and pleaded desperately.

"Doctor, please. I don't want the surgery. Please, just let me go."

The doctor, William Brown, didn't seem surprised that I was awake. His face was filled with reluctance, but he still pulled my hand away.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Reed. I can only follow Ms. Rhodes' orders. She owns this hospital. I don't have a choice."

Looking at him, I knew there was no escaping this.

I grabbed his hand again and pleaded, "Then please, just take the cornea. Please don't remove my eye.

"I know my vision problems are only temporary, caused by pressure on my optic nerve. And I know what she really wants is my cornea—to help Andrew regain his sight. I'll give her my cornea. But please leave me some hope. Don't remove my eye."

William stared at me in silence.

He didn't give me the answer I wanted. When he spoke, his voice was cold and emotionless.

"Mr. Reed, it's time. We're administering the anesthesia process."

As soon as he finished speaking, the sedative entered my system, and I slipped back into unconsciousness.

A tear rolled down my cheek. I had given up all hope.

When I woke up, the surgery was over.

Everything was pitch-black. My eyes were tightly wrapped in layers of gauze. I didn't know whether my eyes were still there. I raised a hand to touch them, but someone stopped me.

Vivian's worried voice came from beside me. "Jules, you're awake. Don't move. You just had surgery. You could get an infection. The doctor said the bandages can't come off for 30 days. Get some rest.

"If you want anything to eat, tell me, and I'll get it. If you're feeling something wrong, tell me, and I'll get the doctor."

Her voice was gentle and attentive, as if she truly cared about me.

I shook my head and turned away.

"I'm fine. Don't you have work? Just go."

Sensing my frustration, she held my hand reassuringly.

"I took time off. It's fine. The company can manage without me for a day or two."

"I just want to be alone right now."

Vivian held my hand, her warm fingers gently stroking mine. Then, she gave me a quick kiss on the lips.

"I'll come back tonight. I'm going home to freshen up."

After Vivian left, I pulled out my phone and called a divorce attorney. I asked him to draft the divorce papers for me.

As soon as I hung up, someone opened the door. It was the caregiver Vivian had hired, Ben Miller.

"Please, don't take my eyes!"Vivian stepped forward, grabbed Andrew by the head, and forced him to look at her. "What? It hurts now?" she hissed."When you spent years arranging 'accidents' that left Julian with a broken hand, unable to have children, and blind, where was your compassion then?" She turned to the others and ordered, "Do it. I want you to experience every bit of what Julian went through!"Andrew's hands and legs were severely injured, his eyes were gouged out, and he could no longer speak.Vivian had him dumped at a private hospital and left him there to recover on his own. She kept him alive so he could experience the suffering Julian had endured—the pain of being unable to see or speak. But revenge brought Vivian no satisfaction. It only gave her guilty conscience a small measure of peace. Vivian also sent Celine to an orphanage for real this time. Meanwhile, things weren't going well for Vivian, either. The press conference where she had planned to ann

To win Vivian over back then, Andrew had signed a prenuptial agreement with her. Even after they married, he would have no claim to any of her family's wealth. He thought he had plenty of time to slowly persuade her to sign a new agreement dividing their assets. But he never expected Vivian to already have a boyfriend she had been dating for years. Now that I was out of the picture, Andrew planned to use their daughter as leverage to get back into Vivian's life and eventually take control of her company. But he had got it wrong. After calming Celine down, Andrew tried to comfort Vivian, only to be harshly rebuked. "What are you doing bringing the kid here? Haven't things gotten chaotic enough? I know exactly what you're after. Let me make this clear, Andrew. You can forget about it!"Cece has only one father, and that's Julian! We may be married, but we never lived together. In every sense that matters, Julian is my only husband! "And I can end this marriage whenever I want

"What? A suicide note?"Vivian felt the world spin around her, and the phone slipped from her hand and hit the floor. Her face went deathly pale as she grabbed Alex by the collar and demanded, "W-What did you say? What happened to Julian?"She had completely lost her composure, and every humiliating moment was being broadcast live. Andrew appeared at some point and caught Vivian as she nearly collapsed. "There are so many reporters here, and the livestream is still on. Pull yourself together." But Vivian no longer cared about appearances. She shoved him aside and continued demanding answers from Alex. After taking a moment to collect himself, Alex stammered, "Ms. Rhodes… It's true. The housekeeper found it while cleaning his room. She sent me a photo. Everything is there."Vivian shakily picked up the phone and opened the note. "Vivian, by the time you read this letter, I will already be gone. "I never wanted to burden you, so I went to the courthouse to petition for a

" I shouldn't have acted the way I did," Vivian said on the phone. "I'll make it up to you tonight. If you want, I'll even write you an apology letter. "The day after tomorrow, I'm holding a press conference. I'll give you half of my company's shares. I want you to see just how sincere I am and how much I love you. From now on, we'll live a good life together."For the next two days, I'll make sure Cece is happy. Then, the day after tomorrow, I'll take her out." Even at this point, she was still putting on an act. She had pretended to love me for seven years, and I had spent seven years believing her. Now, it was finally time to end it. "Okay. I'll have a surprise for you the day after tomorrow, too." After hanging up, I took out my SIM card, snapped it in half, and threw it in the trash. In just a little over ten hours, nothing in this life would have anything to do with me anymore. Vivian assumed I had finally forgiven her. Throughout the countless arguments we'd had, al

"I understand. I won't let you down," Andrew assured her. "Good," Vivian said. "Julian has been waiting outside long enough. I'll be taking our daughter home."Upon hearing that, I frantically looked for somewhere to hide, only to trip and fall. I heard the door open. I was trying to figure out how to pretend I hadn't heard anything when I recognized Andrew's voice. "It's nothing. The cat knocked something over. Talk to Cece. I'll be there in a minute." Andrew stepped in front of me, blocking Vivian's view. Once she left, his attitude changed immediately. "So, you heard everything. I might as well tell you. Cece is my daughter with Vivian. How does it feel? You spent three years by her side, and she still wouldn't give you a child. "Oh, right. I forgot. You can't have children. And now you have to raise your wife's lover's child. I almost feel sorry for you."Vivian hasn't told you yet, has she? We're legally married. You're actually the homewrecker. If you know what'

Back then, I probably would have been moved to tears by such gestures from Vivian. Now, I only found them ridiculous. She'd spent the entire day in Andrew's room, keeping her husband and daughter company. Andrew had a luxury VIP suite. I only had a private room for some peace. The stew was probably made by a private chef she'd hired for Andrew, with an extra portion prepared for me. "Jules, do you like kids?" she asked. "I feel like our home is a little too quiet. How about we adopt a child from an orphanage to keep you company? You've always loved kids. Don't you want to be a dad?" Her words made my anger boil. "Do you want one? If you do, we can adopt." A week later, Vivian took me to the so-called orphanage. After a long, winding drive, we finally arrived. As soon as the car door opened, a sweet voice called from a distance. "Mommy! You're finally here! I missed you so much!""Cece, I miss you too." Vivian helped me out of the car, then bent down and picked up the
