Chapter 2

Autor: Poppy Flower
If my suspicions were correct, there was no way she could have kept that thing on her, which meant that it could only be in the trash bin.

I held my breath and walked quickly to the trash bin.

I crouched down and was just about to dig through it when someone tapped me on the shoulder.

“What are you doing in here?”

I turned and saw it was Jonah. Cold sweat broke out on my skin.

He frowned and asked, “Dylan, why are you in the women’s restroom? If someone catches you, they’re going to think you’re some kind of pervert.”

My face flushed red as I scrambled for an excuse.

“I just had too much to drink and got a little tipsy. I must’ve walked into the wrong restroom by accident.”

After I said that, his smile faded.

He stared at me and said in a low voice, “Dylan, be honest with me. Do you think I’ve been sleeping with your fiancee?”

I opened my mouth, but before I could respond, he snapped.

“We’ve been friends for almost fifteen years. How could you even think that about me?”

The sheer fury in his eyes made me question whether I had imagined the whole thing.

Then, Jonah grabbed the bin next to him and flipped it upside down.

Trash scattered across the floor. Among the crumpled papers was a bloodstained pad.

There was nothing else other than that.

When I saw this, guilt swallowed me whole.

“Jonah, I...”

“Dylan, I flew twelve hours to be here for your wedding, and you suspected me over some little thing? Is that really how you see me? Am I that disgusting and crude to you?”

Jonah stormed out of the restroom mid-rant.

I ran after him, but he had already vanished from sight.

In that moment, all I felt was deep regret.

Back in the private room, my friends looked at me with confusion.

“Dylan, where did Jonah go? He stormed off, looking really mad. He did not even say goodbye.”

I opened my mouth, but I had no idea how to explain it to them.

Then Clara walked over and gently took my arm.

“Dylan, what’s going on? Everything was fine a minute ago. Did you guys fight?”

I kept my head down and stayed silent. She did not ask further questions.

She just sighed and said, “Never mind. Stay here with everyone. I’ll go find him. Whatever happened, just talk it out once we get back.”

With that, she hurried out.

I was too unsettled to keep the party going.

So I told everyone we were calling it an early night.

On the way home, I could not shake off that guilt.

I would hate myself for the rest of my life if a ridiculous misunderstanding like this destroyed over a decade of friendship with Jonah.

After pondering for a long time, I told the driver to turn the car around.

Thinking Jonah had probably gone back to the hotel, I decided to find him first and properly apologize for what had happened earlier.

Soon, I arrived outside the hotel.

But just as I pushed the door open to get out of the car, I caught a glimpse of something at the entrance.

I was in disbelief.

I saw Jonah and Clara cuddling each other.

Clara was playfully pounding her fist against Jonah’s chest as she whined with a pout, “Are you insane? Why would you just carry that thing around with you? And you let Dylan find it! We almost got caught!”

Jonah chuckled as he said smugly, “Clara, you’re the one who said you wanted to spice things up. Relax. You should’ve seen me in there. I was so convincing I almost believed it myself.”

I stayed silent for a moment. Then I answered coldly through the door.“There’s nothing left to talk about between us.”Her voice turned frantic. Her nails scraped against the door, making a sharp, grating sound.“This is all Jonah’s fault! He came after me first. He flew back early just to see me. He told me he’d had a crush on me since day one. I just... I gave in for one moment. He caught me at the wrong time. But you have to believe me. I don’t love him. I never did. You’re the only one I love—”My voice was ice cold as I cut her off.“Clara, you’re still trying to blame him? I saw you two with my own eyes outside that hotel.”The scratching stopped. Silence hung in the air for a moment. Then came the muffled sound of sobbing.“You’re right. I’m trash. I deserve this.”Clara’s voice cracked with despair. Her voice sounded like it was about to break completely.“But Dylan, I know I messed up. Every single day since then, I’ve regretted it. I can’t stop thinking about you. I

[Care to explain, Jonah? You said you came back early to plan a surprise for me. Was the surprise sleeping with my fiancee?]When I posted the evidence online, the internet erupted all over again.[What? Another plot twist?!][So Dylan wasn’t lying. Those two really are trash.]Jonah’s response came faster than I expected, though. He immediately reposted my evidence and tried to spin it.[What is this supposed to prove? Clara and I loved each other first! You’re the one who tore us apart, Dylan. We just couldn’t help ourselves. If you hadn’t stolen her from me, we wouldn’t have to sneak around like this.]His shamelessness somehow reached a new level. But I had already anticipated that he would not go down without a fight. I smirked and released the second wave of evidence. It was a cleaned-up clip from an airplane cabin surveillance footage. The quality was not great, but it was obvious the man in the footage was Jonah. He was flirting with a flight attendant. Soon after, the

She stayed holed up at home every day. She was too afraid to even step outside.Jonah, on the other hand, had vanished without a trace. I figured he could not face anyone either. He had probably slunk back overseas already. I heard these things through mutual friends, but they felt distant. I stopped caring about what happened to them. I just wanted a clean break. Then, one late afternoon, as I was getting off work, my phone buzzed urgently.A friend had sent me a link, followed by a string of exclamation points.[Dylan, you need to see this. What is going on?!]My stomach dropped. I clicked the link.It was a long post from an anonymous account, but it was not hard for anyone to guess who it was really about. Jonah had spun an elaborate lie, framing himself as the victim in the most pitiful tone imaginable. He claimed that he and Clara were high school sweethearts, that they shared a deep, unbreakable bond, and that I had swooped in and stolen Clara from him.Out of loyalty t

But none of that mattered to me anymore. It only took three days to see those two for who they really were.I realized that everything I thought I had lost was not worth a thing....When I returned home, I calmly started packing.Everything connected to Clara went into a big cardboard box. The wedding photos, the souvenirs, even the travel magnets stuck to the fridgeI would take it all out with me when I left. With each item I threw away, my heart grew colder. The sweeter those memories once were, the more they sickened me.It turned out every promise we had made was just a lie. After I finished clearing everything out, I took my suitcase and was ready to leave. However, someone suddenly called out from behind me.“Dylan, wait! Don’t go!”I turned and saw Clara and Jonah. Both were out of breath from chasing after me. They looked disheveled. Jonah rushed forward and blocked my way as he said desperately, “Dylan, does it really have to end like this? Okay, fine! I admit

The large screen displayed footage from the dressing room.As soon as Jonah entered, he eagerly pulled Clara into an embrace.“Stop... today’s my wedding with Dylan. What if someone sees us? We almost got caught last time. Do you ever learn?”Clara pretended to resist, but her body had already surrendered.“Where’s the thrill otherwise? Don’t you like it?”“But...”“Relax. Nobody’s going to find out.”Jonah’s hands roamed restlessly over her body. He added with a sneer, “Besides, Dylan and I have shared everything since we were kids. You’re his girl, so that means I get a turn too. That’s just how it works.”Gasps rippled through the guest section at Jonah’s shameless declaration.“Cut it off! Dylan, turn it off now!”Jonah’s face twisted with rage and humiliation as he screamed at me.“Let’s just talk about this. Don’t do this to me here.”Clara’s makeup had long been ruined by tears. She collapsed to the floor and was on the verge of fainting.“Now you’re embarrassed?”

I did not even know how to answer those questions.I wiped away my tears and eventually calmed down.I did not think I could pretend that nothing happened. After thinking it through, I picked up my phone and dialed a number.... Soon, it was the wedding day.During the reception, the banquet hall was packed with guests.Jonah showed up early. He looked sharp in his tailored suit.He walked over to me with a glass in his hand and draped an arm around my shoulder like old times.“Dylan, let bygones be bygones. We’ve been brothers for what, fifteen years? Let’s not let some little misunderstanding ruin our friendship.”Clara came over, too. She looped her arm through mine and teased, “I spent forever talking him down that day, you know. So don’t go getting all suspicious on us again.”I extended my hand and smiled genuinely before saying, “Jonah, I totally overreacted the other day. To make it right, I’ve got you something special.”“Oh? What’d you get me? Don’t tell me it’s
