Chapter 8

Gina walked back to Stacy with two bottles of water and plain donuts, then she passed the bottle to her first, “Here, drink some water first, I got donuts, you have to eat something” she said and Stacy nodded her head in response.

Stacy was eating the donut when a nurse finally came out, Stacy immediately rushed towards her “h-how is my mom, is she okay?”

“I’m sorry you have to wait for the doctor, sorry again I’ll take my leave now” the nurse said then hurriedly walked away, Stacy stood waiting for the door to open again, she started feeling slightly dizzy and wanted to sit down but just then the doctor came out and she hurried to meet him, “doctor doctor, tell me how is my mom she- she’s going to be alright right?”

“Can we speak in my office please?” The doctor asked seeing how shaky and unstable Stacy was. “No please tell me here, is there anything wrong with my mom? Tell me!”

“Did you know that you mother has arrhythmia?

“I knew... I know, it’s just that I...”

“She now also has a brain concussion, and she might not remember certain things when she wakes up”

“Not remember? Not remember things like what? Wh-wh-why-why won’t she remember?!” Stacy asked holding on tightly to Gina because she could feel her body shaking.

“There was a hard hit to her head and that injury might need a stitch too, and her arrhythmia has worsened, she might need a heart transplant, or she won’t get to live long enough”.

Hearing all that the doctor had said, Gina began to cry too, she had told herself that she wouldn’t cry for Stacy’s sake, but she couldn’t help it now.

“What are we going to do? How will we get the money for all this?” Gina thought to herself.

Brian and Ryan had just arrived when Stacy fainted.

“Stacy! Stacy! Doctor what happened to her?!” Gina asked in tears as she kept shaking Stacy’s body, but she showed no signs of waking up.

The doctor then ordered some nurses to carry Stacy, but before any of them could touch her Brian had already carried her, the male nurse was about to refute but he saw who had carried Stacy, then he remained quiet and the other nurses had no choice but to follow behind him.

Brian, Gina, and Ryan had spent just two minutes outside Stacy’s room but to them it felt like an hour especially for Gina, whose eyes now looked like she got into a fight and got hit.

Gina got up and was about to barge into the room then the male nurse came out,

“Wh-what happened to my sister?! What happened to her? is she okay? Is she...”

“Aegina let the man speak” Ryan said holding on to Gina’s shoulders.

While writing on the pad in his hand, the nurse began to speak,

“Asides her asthma... there’s nothing majorly wrong with her, she passed out due to stress and...” “Asthma?” Gina said interrupting him.

“Yes, her asthma” the nurse said giving Gina a questioning look.

“We...I didn’t know she had asthma, I don’t think she even knew” Gina said with a sniffle then cleaned her nose with the sleeves of her shirt.

“I would have to inform the doctor about this, give me a minute” the nurse said then walked away.

“Aegina you need to rest so you don’t end up like Stacy, you were sick earlier today, come sit, I’ll go get you something to eat” Ryan said, then after helping her sit he informs Brian that he’s leaving and that was when Gina finally noticed Brian’s presence, then she remembered how he carried Stacy and the worried look on his face that he tried to hide.

“Do you like my sister?” She asked straightforwardly while looking at Brian’s back figure, then he turned around because he wanted to make sure that she was talking to him.

“I don’t” he answered without looking at her.

“Oh really, well from the way you reacted when she passed out, one would think she’s your girlfriend and you were awfully worried about her, I mean, did you see your face?”

“I don’t like your sister, I reacted like a normal person would”.

“Sure, okay, keep telling yourself that” she says then rests her head on the wall”.

“What about you?” Brian asked while taking a brief glance at her.

“What about me ... what?”

“What’s with you and Ryan?”

“Oh I didn’t know the amazing business guru Brian Smith is also a gossip too” she said then sat up again, “if you think your boyfriend and I have something going on, ask him, don’t worry, he’s not cheating on you” she said with a smirk then rested her head again.

“Did she just indirectly call me gay, why would anyone even assume that I’m gay, first Stacy now her” Brian thought to himself then turned to her, “I’m not gay okay!” Then he huffed and sat on the bench chair opposite Gina.

“I know you’re not” she replied with a light laugh, “although the media makes this man seem like a cold person, which he is sometimes, he’s also so adorable, haha, I’m really worried about Stacy and Mom but talking to this block of ice is therapeutic, and I don’t feel depressed at all” Gina thought to herself.

...

After a while of watching nurses go in and out of Stacy’s and her mother’s room, Brian told Gina he was going to see the doctor and she wanted to go with him, but he had asked her to stay and continue checking on Stacy for when she wakes up.

Ryan came back with two bags and sat next to Gina.

“Ginny, I brought you something to eat”. he said then passed a bag to her, then he looked around and noticed that Brian wasn’t anywhere around.

“Where is Brian?” He asked looking at Gina.

“He said he wanted to go and see the doctor” she answered while digging into the pack of food Ryan got her, just then a nurse rushed out of Stacy’s room.

Seeing the panicking look of the nurse Gina immediately assumed something was wrong then she dropped her food and rushed towards to door.
