Chapter 4

He spat out those harsh words, then pushed past my shoulder and left.

The house fell silent once more.

After I hastily performed some first aid, I heard a knock at the door.

An unsigned parcel, addressed specifically to me.

When I opened it, I saw a pregnancy test stick and a prenatal check-up notice inside.

My fingers trembled slightly as I picked up the pregnancy test stick. The two red lines stung my eyes.

Soon after, I received a text from Wendy.

"Miss Hale, did you get the present?"

"If you touch Mark, he'll feel disgusted for three days, but when he's intimate with me, he's as passionate as fire."

"You're supposed to be the one who looks most like April, yet how come even as a substitute, you can't compare to me?"

I was in a daze for a long time. Pain spread from my fingertips to my heart, and tears dripped onto the notice, blurring the name on the paper that wasn't mine.

I had begged Mark for three years, loved him for three years.

At that moment, my love died, along with all the resentment and stubbornness of the past three years.

Before Mark's mother, Linda, returned from abroad, I didn't reach out to Mark.

I no longer chased after him like before, nor did I continue to beg him for a baby.

Even when Wendy deliberately provoked me, I completely ignored her.

Mark seemed a bit unaccustomed to it, so he came to see me himself.

"Don't tell me you're giving up?

"Well, you've chased after me for three years, so it's about time you give up. My mom's coming back from abroad soon. I'll have her be the witness.

"I've already told a lawyer to draft the divorce papers. Don't worry, you won't be short-changed when it comes to assets."

Mark seemed to be really looking forward to divorcing me.

"After that, I'll hold a wedding with Wendy, which will make up for my regrets. You should know your place. Don't even think of stopping me."

If it were before, I would lower my head and beg him not to divorce me.

But now, I only said calmly, "Whatever you do from now on has nothing to do with me anymore."

The look in Mark's eyes darkened, and he let out a cold snort.

"I hope you stick to your word."

His tone was mocking, convinced that I wouldn't leave him.

On the day Linda returned to the country, she summoned both Mark and me to the Zeller family estate.

To provoke me, Mark brought Wendy along.

Upon seeing Wendy, Linda frowned hard, the disgust in her eyes evident.

"Why bring that dirty woman here?"

Mark was a bit unhappy hearing that. He gave me a glance and said, "You made me marry a murderer. What's wrong with me falling for a normal person?"

I remained silent despite his insult, offering no rebuttal.

Linda's gaze shifted between Mark and me, finally letting out a sigh.

"I called you two here today to discuss your..."

Before Linda could finish, Mark stood up.

"Mom, I want to divorce Gloria! I'd literally marry anyone else but her. I just can't stand her anymore. I've had enough!"

As he spoke, he slammed Wendy's prenatal check-up notice onto the table.

"Besides, Wendy's pregnant with my baby."

He emphasized the word 'my' heavily, looking at me with a smug expression.

Upon seeing the prenatal check-up notice, Linda's expression darkened considerably.

"Well, if that's the case, then things have gotten much simpler."

Mark was stunned, not expecting Linda to respond that way.

Seeing the document Linda pushed toward him, his pupils suddenly constricted, and he froze on the spot...

"Sign it. After that, you will be done forever with Gloria."
