Chapter 52

Penulis: Jean Shea
The proposal had at least a dozen or two dozen pages, but she'd only managed to photograph six or seven.

They covered things like industry positioning, business goals, strategies to attract clientele, recruitment plans, service analysis, and customer profiles. Elaine had even marked key points with a red pen, circling and annotating them.

The last photo was about a 'one-on-one elite service program' where male escorts were tailored to individual socialites. There was a short paragraph describing the service, followed by a target list of names.

Unfortunately, Sheryl hadn't captured the list.

Veloura Atelier marketed itself as a high-end beauty salon, and its clients were the wives and daughters of the elite. Elaine was part of that world. She knew the kind of men that ran in wealthy circles, and she knew their weaknesses.

Ding!

A new notification popped up.

"Elaine is currently trying to recruit Emily to buy into the underground operation. They're set to meet and sign at Veloura

Sheryl didn't get home until after eleven. After soaking in a hot bath, she came out to find Brandon still hadn't returned. It wasn't until the next morning that she saw him in the dining room. When Brandon saw her, he set down the hot milk in his hand. His expression was full of gentle affection."You're up already? Did you sleep well last night?"Sheryl paused for a moment. Suddenly, she felt unsure where he had actually spent the night. Did he come home? Or did he stay at Vivian's?She suppressed her emotions and walked over to pull out a chair before sitting down."Yeah, not bad. What time did you get back last night?""A little after three.""That late?"Sheryl looked up in surprise, as if trying to catch a lie on his face. But whether it was the truth or he was just too good at hiding it, she couldn't read a thing."So how much sleep did you get? Why are you already up?" she asked."About four hours. It's fine. I couldn't sleep any longer anyway. I figured I'd make you

It seemed that the escort training program was more than just fluff. It was definitely not to be underestimated."You knew?""I only found out a few days ago," Sheryl replied. "But I haven't been able to find any solid proof that they're shareholders yet. What I did find, though, were part of the accounting records from the underground operation, and a business proposal detailing its development plan. But only half of it.""Send it all to me," Steven said."Sure."Sheryl forwarded all the photos she had taken that day. Just as she finished, the traffic police arrived. The two of them walked back to the scene and were asked to present their licenses."Sorry, I don't have mine on me," Sheryl said. "It's in my other car. I took this one last-minute tonight. Is a digital license okay?"The officer checked the vehicle info. "This car isn't registered to you?""No, it's my husband's."As she answered, Sheryl flexed her stiff fingers and pulled up her digital license on her phone.T

Sheryl was taken aback. The soft drizzle blurred her car window, slightly clouding her view, but Steven's sharp, handsome face still imprinted itself clearly in her vision. Not even the rain could dull his presence.Even in this kind of weather, he seemed untouched by gloom, as if there were always a light shining just for him.Steven tapped lightly on the window, motioning for her to get out of the car.Snapping out of it, Sheryl turned on her hazard lights and opened the door. She didn't have an umbrella, so she instinctively raised her hand to shield herself from the rain. Before her hand even got there, no raindrops hit her face. She looked up.A black umbrella had been held over her head. She froze for a moment. Her gaze landed on Steven's shoulder. It was partially exposed to the rain. The streetlights here weren't very bright, and a faint mist clung to the air. The whole world seemed to blur.Sheryl opened her mouth, ready to greet him, but his calm, low voice cut in f

"If it's work related, then go," Sheryl said, digging her nails deep into her palm just to force a smile. "I'm done eating anyway, and work comes first.""I'll take you home first," Brandon offered."No need. It takes thirty minutes to drive home from here, and then another thirty minutes from there to the office. That's a whole hour wasted. I'll just take a cab."Brandon's expression turned serious. "No way! It's already nine o'clock. I won't feel at ease if you take a cab alone." He pressed his lips together, thinking. "You're tired too. How about this? You take the car and head home first. I'll grab a cab to the office.""How will you get home later?""No big deal. Luke is still at the office. I'll have him give me a ride back.""Alright," Sheryl agreed hesitantly.Brandon paid the bill. After they left the restaurant, he flagged down a cab, gave her a few reminders, and said the company address out loud to the driver in front of her.She watched the cab merge into traffic,

Gourmet Fusion was about a thirty-minute drive from Moran Art Gallery, but with rush hour traffic, they were stuck in congestion for over ten minutes.Brandon ordered a steak and a lobster for Sheryl, along with a cream of mushroom soup and dessert. When the food arrived, he thoughtfully cut her steak into bite-sized pieces for her. It was quite a lot for someone like Sheryl, who didn't usually eat much. But today she was genuinely exhausted, and since she hadn't eaten much at lunch, her appetite wasn't too bad. Even so, she still didn't manage to finish everything. There were several pieces of steak left, and about half the lobster and soup remained untouched.Seeing this, Brandon asked, "You're full?""Yeah," Sheryl said, sipping her water.Brandon never minded eating Sheryl's leftovers. He pulled the plates toward him and polished them off gracefully.Sheryl frowned slightly. She hadn't thought much of this habit before. But now, the idea that he might also eat Vivian's lef

What was the point of Sheryl being happy now?Once everything between Vivian and Brandon came to light, how shocked and devastated would Sheryl look then? Vivian could already picture the scene. Honestly, she was kind of looking forward to it.As the malice faded from her eyes, she curled her lips into a mocking smile. She stepped forward with her usual bright and innocent demeanor, lively and sweet as ever."Sheryl, done for the day? Heading off to a date?"She looped her arm around Sheryl's in a familiar gesture, playing the role of the gracious friend who clearly hadn't taken their earlier clash to heart.Sheryl frowned slightly. Her eyes remained calm, nearly expressionless, as she pulled her arm free and answered coolly, "Going out for dinner."Vivian's chest felt stuffy. Sheryl's coldness made her uneasy, nervous, even. Did Sheryl actually know she'd been behind the sabotage? But if she did, why hadn't she called her out?Vivian had no idea and couldn't be confident about

Brandon gathered his thoughts and approached Sheryl's office door. He raised a hand to knock.Inside, Sheryl was seated at her desk reviewing documents on her computer. Without looking up, she called out casually, "Come in."The door opened, and Brandon peeked his head in. He teased with a grin, "Ms. Moran, what time do you get off work? Your humble servant is waiting at the door."Sheryl looked up in surprise at the sound of his voice. Her expression softened into a smile. "What are you doing here? You didn't even text me.""I figured you'd be busy and might not have time to reply. So I just grabbed some drinks and came over," Brandon said, walking in. "Rough day?""It wasn't too bad." Her gaze landed on what he was holding. "What's this? Sakura & Co.? You went out of your way to get it?""Yeah. Hasn't it been a while since you had one?""It has. Thank you, honey." Her eyes lit up with joy as she eagerly punctured the lid with a straw and took a sip. "You said you brought some

As dusk approached, the last streaks of sunset faded from the sky.Once the final visitor left, the art gallery closed for the day. Sheryl held a brief debriefing session.Although the opening day was behind them, there were still six more days to go. Each day required vigilance. Safety checks were to be conducted at least twice daily without exception. No matter how repetitive it might feel, slacking off wasn't an option. The meeting didn't last long. Knowing everyone would likely be working overtime that evening, Sheryl made sure not to delay them any further. As Sheryl headed back to her office, Brandon arrived at the gallery by car. On his way to the exhibition hall, he ran into Zachary, who was unsurprised to see him and quickly approached."Mr. Simrod, welcome."Brandon nodded politely. "Where's Sheryl?""She's upstairs in her office.""How did the exhibition go today?"Zachary paused briefly and nodded. "Pretty smoothly. The response online has been quite good, too.""

"Didn't you say there was a lighting issue in Section B? You didn't go get the tech staff?" Sheryl coldly cut her off. "Did you not hear what I just said? I told you to recheck all four exhibit areas thoroughly! "If something goes wrong again, it won't just be a staff issue, it'll be a failure of management. Before you act, think about the consequences. Can you bear it all?"She had no concrete evidence of Vivian tampering with the exhibition, so she couldn't confront her directly. But she could no longer pretend nothing had happened and continue playing nice. She simply couldn't bring herself to be gentle or accommodating with someone who had tried to sabotage the art gallery her mother had founded. This wasn't just disgusting. It was personal. It was hatred.Vivian trembled, the panic and anxiety swelling inside her. "Sheryl, don't be like this. You're scaring me.""I'm only asking, as the director, that you return to Section B and re-inspect the area you're responsible for. I
