Chapter 4 The Other Woman

Author: Spicy Clams
My whole body was burning up. My head throbbed, and my voice was hoarse. "My phone. Give me my phone."

"Hazel, don't even think about calling the police. It won't do any good."

Dawson was afraid calling the police would hurt Lynn.

He cupped my face in his hands, his eyes full of pity. "Trust me. I have my reasons when it comes to Lynn."

I pulled away from him and stumbled to my feet. "It doesn't matter anymore. I don't want to know. Dawson, we're done."

I staggered into the living room, then froze.

A framed photo sat on the coffee table. It showed Dawson and Lynn holding a little dog. Beside the frame lay several unused condoms.

A black stocking was crumpled on the couch, and a lace thong hung over one corner.

A dog bed sat beside the couch, with a worn-out shirt lining it. It was the shirt I had saved up for a long time to buy, a $768 birthday present for Dawson.

A little black cat charm lay inside, its head cracked and twisted from being chewed on.

I had made it for Dawson myself. We had once promised that after we got married, we would get a black cat together.

Pain stabbed through my chest again, and I gasped for breath.

"You could've just told me you wanted to break up, Dawson. Why did you lie to me? Why would you give the things I gave you to an animal? Why would you throw away the love I gave you like it meant nothing?"

"That wasn't some animal. It was a dog Lynn and I raised for years. It was family. And it died in an accident. Could you not talk about it like that?"

Dawson rubbed the spot between his eyebrows.

"Hazel, stop being so stubborn. When I was starting my business, I went through a major crisis. If Lynn hadn't begged her father to help me, I wouldn't be where I am today. You should be grateful."

It was absurd.

I stared blankly at Dawson, unwilling to waste another word on him.

"Fine. If that's what you say."

I frantically searched the living room for my things. I just wanted to get away from this disgusting man forever.

But Dawson stepped forward and pulled me tightly into his arms.

"Hazel, stop this. Haven't you had enough of struggling all these years? I have money now. We don't have to live apart anymore. Give me a little time, and I'll buy you a place. That luxury apartment overlooking the river you always said you wanted. We can go back to the way things were—"

I cut him off coldly. "Dawson, do you want me to be the other woman, or do you want Lynn to be the other woman?"

My conscience was clear, and people had to move forward eventually.Besides, I could feel how good Waylon was to me.I repeated myself. "Really. I'm happy with how things are now. I'm happy I married you."Waylon's ears turned red, and he suddenly could not look me in the eye.Later, Waylon insisted on taking me to Sapphire Bay for our honeymoon. After that, he insisted we take a trip to Nordhaven, too.Our feelings for each other grew f

I was surprised when Dawson suddenly appeared in front of me.He grabbed my wrist, looking almost frantic. "Hazel, it really is you. What are you doing here?"I pulled my hand free and frowned at the couple.Lynn's face went pale, but she sneered. "You really are something. I can't believe you actually made it to Harborview."She no longer bothered pretending she did not know me."What are you doing in a place like this? Working as a server? Or did you become some old man's mistress?"People nearby turned to look.Dawson pressed his lips together, waiting for my answer too.I said calmly, "You're not welcome here.""Who are you kidding? You're a slut who spends all day seducing other women's husbands. You're the one who doesn't belong here…"Lynn had been spoiled rotten. She lunged forward in anger and reached for my hair. Before she could even touch me, a hard slap sent her stumbling sideways. She was pregnant, and Dawson hurried to steady her, worry flashing across his fa

How could they possibly separate?Besides, he loved Hazel.Dawson immediately called her."I'm sorry, but the number you dialed is not in service…"Impossible. How could this be?Dawson hurriedly called his assistant."Mr. Reed, I followed your instructions and took Ms. Autumns to the hospital. The doctor said she has to stay."Dawson hung up and got to his feet."Where are you going? Are you crazy? Where are you going on our wedding night?"Lynn went up to him, stunned. "You're going to find that bitch Hazel, aren't you, Dawson? Get back here!"Dawson walked away without looking back.He drove like a maniac to the hospital his assistant had mentioned. He glanced at the message, and his expression changed instantly. He grabbed my arm and pulled me toward the guest bedroom. "Lynn suddenly came over. Stay in here for a while. I could not fight him off.He wound the rope around me again and again, then softened his voice as he tried to soothe me."Come on. After all these years, there's no way we're breaking up. Besides, no one else would want you. You carried my child. No one is going to want a woman who's lost a child."My lips trembled as I stared at him in disbelief.I had not planned to get pregnant. That year, I had come to Riverport
