Love Of My Life

I am standing on the bridge looking at the cold waters below. The water seems to be calling me. It's time to pay for all the mistakes I have made this past year. I have to end all the pain that's in my heart.

I was about to jump when I heard someone say;  "Hey! What are you doing? Thinking of jumping? Ending your precious life?"

I turned to my left and saw a handsome guy of around my age standing ten steps away from me. He too was looking at the waters below.

Why is he here? I was curious so I asked him, "Why do you want to know? Are you planning to jump too?"

He turned to face me. It was dark there but I can still see his handsome face. For some reason, he looked shocked and surprised. I waited for him to reply but he just stared at me.

So I said, "Yes, I am going to jump but what are you doing here?"

At last, he composed himself and replied, "No, I'm not here to jump. I saw you so came here out of curiosity, to know why you are doing this".

So he is here to stop me. This thought made me angry so, I replied angrily, "You don't need to know. Just leave. And don't try to convince me and stop me from jumping. It’s just a waste of your and my time."

"Why are you doing this? You can tell me maybe I can help you out." He said concerned.

Is he even listening to me? I don't want to tell him anything and he is still here.

I shouted at him angrily, "Just go away! Just leave me alone! You don't need to know anything."

"But I want to know, you look like someone I used to know. So, I can't let you do this until you tell me the reason," he said concerned.

This doesn't make sense. I should tell him just because I look like someone he knew. No! I won't tell him anything no matter what. I shouted at him, "I am not that someone you knew and I won't tell you anything so, just leave."

He stared at me for some more time and then replied, "Yes, you are not her. She was different from you. She would never do such a thing no matter what happened in her life or how big the problem was. She was strong." Saying this he started walking away.

I kept staring at his back thinking about his words that I am not strong. I can't be strong anymore not after what happened.

No. I shouldn't think anything now. I shouldn't be bothered because of his words. I shook my head to get rid of all the thoughts and looked at the waters below. I have to do this. I have to end my life, end all this pain.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. And then, I jumped smiling, ready to embrace the waters. Yes, I am smiling, I am happy that all my pain and sufferings are going to come to an end; I am going to be engrossed in the arms of awaiting death.

But...

But I don't feel the water. I feel someone holding me.

I opened my eyes. He was looking at me with concern in his eyes. He is the guy from before. But, how did he come here? I saw him leave. How can he be here to save me then?

He saved me. I failed in my attempt to end my life because of him. I wanted to shout at him but I was too shocked to do that.

"Are you alright?" He asked me concerned.

But I was unable to say anything and just kept staring at him.
