Aurora:

“After inhaling all that antiseptic for almost a week straight, I fear I can't perceive nice things anymore.” Trish groaned from beside me. She made a gesture of wiping tears from her eyes dramatically, “This is all your fault, Rory.”

Despite all the complaints, she still scooped a spoonful of ice cream and led it to her mouth.

A small smile grazed my lips, and I spoke out, “You're welcome.”

Dmitri snorted from the driver’s seat, catching Trish’s whining through the rearview mirror. “You act like you were the one in the hospital bed,” he said, brows lifting a little, and creasing into a frown. “Pretty sure the only thing you suffered was emotional distress from a lack of Wi-Fi.”

Trish clutched her chest, and her brows pulled together as she picked offense in his words. “Excuse you! I happen to be a very sensitive soul, Dmitri. Being around sick people in a hospital that smells of nothing but antiseptic and drugs is traumatic. Do you know how many times I almost cried?”

  • Love Rewritten: Chasing Her Back   149. Next To You, Not In Front Of You

♞ Adrian: It was late evening by the time I finally made it back home. I opened the door and stepped inside, rubbing a hand over my tired eyes as I kicked my shoes off in the living room and tugged at my tie, pulling it off before reaching for the buttons of my shirt. I unbuttoned the first and the second before stepping in fully, and the moment I did, my fingers stilled as I came to an abrupt stop at the sight of Rory in my living room. She stood up the moment I stepped inside, and the first thing I saw was her red-rimmed eyes, which were clouded with tears; her hair was disheveled. I pressed my fingers into my eyes and shook my head. For a breath, I thought I was hallucinating since I couldn't stop thinking about her for the past hours; that was until she finally spoke out. “Where have you been?” Her voice was barely audible. “I had to complete some things before coming home.” She nodded a little, but down on the lips, and asked, “Things like?” Instead of telling her it w

♞Adrian:By the time sunlight peeped through the blinds, I pushed myself up from the chair and walked over to one of the cabinets in the office before grabbing a black long-sleeved shirt along with black pants and one of my ties.Closing the cabinet, a breath escaped my lips, and it was at that moment I noticed the dark circles under my eyes from the mirror on the cabinet. My tie was loosened, and my shirt was utterly wrinkled, and I looked absolutely as wretched as I felt at the moment.A deep sigh escaped my lips, and I looked away, walking into a door at the other end of the office.A while later, I stepped out, feeling more refreshed than I had the previous day.I tugged my shirt smooth before neatly knotting my tie in place. My phone vibrated on my table, and my brows creased into a frown as I grabbed it and checked the new message that got in, which was from Christian, and read:He agreed to the meeting. 9 AM. At a hotel, I'll send the address details in five.A minute later, h

♞Adrian:I wasn't sure how many hours dragged past as I stood at the same place until Christian drove the car out.A lot went through my mind, but all I did was stare at nothing in particular. It wasn't until I heard the ping sound of a message on my phone break the silence that I finally moved, reaching out for it in my pocket.Christian’s name popped on the screen as I swiped, and I immediately tapped the new message he had sent.Christian: She’s home now.The moment I read the message, my legs finally moved, and I walked down the path straight to where my car was, tapping the dial button on Christian's number. It rang for barely up to two seconds before he answered.Stepping inside the car, I shut the door close and brushed my fingers through my hair, resting my head back before speaking, “She’s home alone?”“No. Trish was home already.”I bit down on my bottom lip and dragged a hand down my face before finally starting the engine of the car. “Alright.”For a long minute I didn't

♛Aurora:By the time I stepped outside, Christian was already waiting for me, his back leaning against one of the two cars parked.I glanced around the deserted surroundings, trying to make sense of any place around, but none seemed familiar. Lucy had indeed gone far to make sure no one would be able to track me.My gaze fell on Christian, who stood straight the moment he saw me. His gaze darted back for a moment, and I didn't need to turn back fully to know Adrian was far behind me. Still standing at the entrance of the warehouse.Christian's gaze shifted back to me, and he nodded once before opening the door of the car and letting me in, shutting it behind me.The moment I slumped to the passenger seat, my head fell backwards, almost like I was trying to push back the tears threatening to spill out.A minute passed, and my mind drifted for a second. I glanced around once again, and when I didn't see Dan, Lucy, or anyone else at all but the three of us around here, my brows creased

  • Love Rewritten: Chasing Her Back   145. Don't Touch Me

♛Aurora:The moment she said those words, Christian dragged her out, not giving her the chance to make things worse than they already were. But even after she had already left, the words she had spouted remained thick in the air.An unpleasant memory tugged at the back of my mind, pulling me back to the scene of me sitting and clutching my mother’s hands at the hospital, pleading with her to not leave me behind. All of a sudden, I forgot how to breathe properly.Adrian’s arms tightened around me, and his fingers subconsciously dug into my arms, like he was trying to hold himself together as much as he was trying to hold me. His sudden action gave me answers to questions I hadn’t even asked because I was scared of what the answers might be.The warmth I had felt from the closeness between us suddenly felt cold, and all I could perceive at that point was the heavy stench of petrol in the warehouse climbing my throat in an uncomfortable way instead of the solace the scent of his cologne

  • Love Rewritten: Chasing Her Back   144. Drop Your Guns

♛ Aurora: John’s grip was too tight, turning me still. I tried to struggle and fight him off, but his grip only burned tighter. “Quit squirming, bitch.” He barked. The second the word left John’s mouth, I saw the shift in Adrian’s shoulders. His gaze held mine, and for a moment, it almost felt like he was trying to tell me something with his eyes, which darted towards where Christian and Lucy were before shifting up to John, who was behind me. I raised a brow, barely understanding what he meant. “Christian, release her. And drop your guns.” He suddenly said, surprising not just me but also Christian, Dan, and the other men in the room. “What—” Christian was about to say something, but one look at Adrian made him nod simply. Dan, who had been silent for a while, suddenly shifted on the floor as he suddenly reasoned, “What? If you release her, they’ll still have Ms. Aurora! They’ll have a hand against us.” But neither Adrian nor Christian paid attention to him; instead, Christ
