Aurora:

The food arrived close to thirty minutes later, after waiting patiently for it. I didn’t look up when the waitress placed our plates down, but I didn’t miss the way her hands shook slightly or how she mumbled, “Enjoy your meal,” like she was halfway out already.

This time around, she didn't bother sparing Adrian a glance. Probably too ashamed to, instead she spared me an apologetic look. And maybe I would have smiled at her, and accepted the apology, but I didn't miss the way her fingers were gripping her apron like she had been forced to apologize.

That's when I glanced over at the island between the waitress spot and the diner, and I noticed a middle aged man was looking directly at us.

I simply scoffed at the realization of what was going on. I doubted she would have apologized if she wasn't threatened.

But still, how did the man who looked like their manager know? My gaze shifted to Adrian, in time to see the man spare him an apologetic nod.

My brows pulled

♛ Aurora: Eventually we finished our meal and had to leave the diner. I was waiting for my chauffeur to come over and pick me up but Adrian insisted I follow him instead and he'd drop me off. In his words, he usually doesn't leave his dates to leave by themselves after the hangout ends. I asked him how many dates he’d had, and he answered in a serious tone, “Only one since I hit 20.” I frowned at his words, not completely understanding what he meant, “So you've gone out with about 21 people in total?” Adrian scowled at my words, he looked like I had insulted him, “No. I mean 20 in age.” I finally understood and nodded simply. But at the same time realization at what his words insinuated settled down on me. Instead of leaving it at that, I asked in an almost low tone, “What about when you were in your late teens? How many ladies did you go out with?” “I was busy running a company.” I should have just left it at that, but I had a penchant for not leaving things half way,

  • Love Rewritten: Chasing Her Back   93. Anything She's Having

♛ Aurora: The diner Adrian took me to was almost empty, save for a couple of people who were having conversations over mugs of coffee. It was the kind of place that smelled like burnt toast and cinnamon, and for some reason, it calmed my nerves. He held the door open for me, letting me step in first, and I ignored the flutter in my chest when his hand brushed my lower back. For a moment I completely let myself forget every worry that should have been in my heart, along with the realization that as soon as we left this place I would need to confront Bonnie. I wasn't even sure what I would say to her yet. I just knew for certain that I couldn't just relieve her from her work easily. Either she wanted to or not, she needed to talk to me. And tell me why she did what she did, and what she was getting out of it. There was still a small part of me that held onto the hope that what she was doing wasn't because she wanted to, but because she didn't have a choice. As we slid

♛ Aurora: My eyes widened in surprise, but I didn't pull away. Actually, I couldn't. Or rather, I didn't want to. Adrian's lips tipped up into a smile, as he slowly trapped me to the door with his body, covering me completely. The moment our lips met, the world outside that room dissolved. Adrian’s lips moved with quiet demand, like he’d been holding back far too long. One hand came to rest against my waist, the other grazing my jaw, and in that second, I forgot why I had planned to keep my distance. He deepened the kiss, slowly, and nibbled on my lower lips. A wince escaped my mouth, but then he licked the spot, and I felt my fingers tighten around the fabric of his shirt. My body leaned into his without thinking. There was heat in the way he touched me possessively. Protective. As if he had been waiting for an excuse to pull me into this moment. I didn't realize how many minutes had gone past, but I was the one who pulled away first, breathless and shaken. Adrian’s gaze

♛ Aurora: Adrian kept Reid’s gaze, not saying anything but watching him in a way that could make anyone shrink back into their seats. The silence that followed Adrian’s accusations was almost suspicious, because Reid has been speaking since the meeting started, but now he suddenly didn't know how to counter the words thrown at him. I spared a glance in his direction, in time to see the slight tremble in his fingers. Reid’s jaw clenched, the silence around him growing denser than before. His eyes didn’t meet mine, not even for a second. Instead, he stared at Adrian like he had no idea what to suddenly say. “I—” he finally spoke out, his voice coming out in a low stutter. “I don’t... I mean—this—this could still be manipulated. Anyone with the right tools could fake a call like that.” Adrian let out a scoff. Not amused, this time. More like he was disappointed. “You just listened to her voice. What other kind of proof do you need? Or were you expecting?” “I don’t care,” Reid s

♛ Aurora: Lancaster sat back on his seat as he opened the folder and glanced through the files in it. I had no idea what he was looking at, and just like me every other single investor in the meeting room was eager to know what it was. Especially since we all watched Lancaster’s expression slowly morph into something else. Completely different from the blank expression he had stepped in with, or the assuring smile he had spared me when he sat on his seat and the meeting started. After a moment, he dropped the folder on the table, and his gaze fell on me almost immediately. From the look in his eyes I could tell he was surprised but also relieved at what he saw on the file. Probably surprised that the direct person under me was the one trying to bring down my work. As for relief… I had no idea why. Reid was first to reach for the folder since he was closer to it. He took it, and my gaze slid to him as he slowly read the content, flipping through images continuously. His exp

♛ Aurora: I had tried everything I could. Tried to talk my way out of Lancaster today to give me a chance to prove this wasn't negligence on my part but an accident. But he made it clear that at this point, he couldn't do anything much for me. Except that he’ll vouch for me at the meeting. Out of about eleven investors, that was one out of ten of them. I was still on the low end. And I didn't know what to do. By the time I realized I was running late for the meeting, I rushed down to the address sent to me. Bonnie had wanted to come with me, but I didn't trust her anymore so I had told her to stay back instead. And find out a way to curb the rumors before either spreads out more than it already has. The moment I stepped inside the meeting room, I stepped still to a stop at the sight I met. The first figure I noticed was Christian who was standing by the door. That was when my gaze trailed to Adrian who was standing, his back to me, as he said something to the two other men in

♞ Adrian: “I knew from the start that she should be made the main consultant. But no one listened. Now look at the message she has turned the project into.” I reached for the handle of the meeting room door but my fingers were still against it, instead of pulling it down and pushing the door open. The voices from inside made my brows crease into a tight frown. “I agree with you on that. Based on her past, and the rumors I've heard about her, she didn't seem like the loyal and competent one.” Someone else added, and my frown only deepened. “Her past? and by rumors, what do you mean?” The first person asked, completely oblivious of the door’s handle being pulled down a little. By their conversation, I could tell there were just two people inside. Lancaster wasn't here yet. I arrived at the meeting centre ten minutes before the time, considering I had run a red light on my way here. The only time I stopped the car was to pick Christan up from the office, before heading over he

  • Love Rewritten: Chasing Her Back   87. Panic

♛ Aurora: I ran my fingers through my hair, feeling the frustration bubbling down my nerves. I had no idea what to do. I couldn't even think. And this was the wrong timing for my brain to suddenly go blank. A deep breath escaped emu lips and I looked around, “You could have anyone do the inspection with you. I'm sure there was someone around that could have helped. An inspection or sign off shouldn't be done by you.” I already knew she was behind it all, but I couldn't just point a finger at her without proof, which is why I was drilling her with questions and watching her expression waver every passing minute. “If Dan wasn't around, and the safety officer wasn't too. Then I'm certain the security officer for the project was there.” Bonnie’s mouth opened, then shut again. She looked nervous now. Too nervous for someone who claimed it was just routine. “I… I didn’t think it was a big deal at the time. Everything checked out. I didn’t want to bother him when he was already swampe
