Chapter 3

Auteur: Moonchaser
Earlier the next morning, Dominic stopped me before I could leave the house.

"Here, this is for you."

He fished out a thin metal chain that he helped me put on my wrist. It was incredibly light and had the sort of golden sheen that came from cheap materials. However, the instant my sensitive skin came into contact with it, I felt a stinging pain.

This wasn't real gold, but an iron chain coated in silver and made to look like gold.

In werewolf culture, gifting a mate an iron chain symbolized "imprisonment" and "enslavement". Usually, it was put on low-ranking werewolves who had done something wrong.

He had gifted Vivian a moonstone bracelet that could soothe and nurture the wolf inside, yet what I got was a silver bracelet that could kill me.

Staring at me with an "adoring" look, he said, "Although it's not anything expensive, I feel like it suits you very well, as it can lock our love."

I lowered my head to gaze at the cheap silver chain, my fingers trembling slightly.

The mate had to wear shackles while the mistress got to wear precious jewelry.

Fighting hard to squash the impulse to rip the chain off of me, I shot him a sweet smile. "Thanks. I love it a lot."

Satisfied, he kissed my cheek and left.

The next morning, I specifically took the long way around to my parents' house. Even before I stepped through the door, the laughter and happy voices drifting out from within were already loud enough to reach my ears.

"Aurora sure is stupid. Just look at how touched she was to receive a lousy chain!" Vivian's voice was shrill and mocking. "Once Dominic hands me the pup, I'll chase her out of the pack and turn her into a rogue!"

My mother, Sierra Black, said in a nauseatingly sweet voice, "Don't worry, sweetheart. Did we not succeed in snatching the position of Jason's mate for you?"

My father, Ollie Morris, was puffing away at a cigar. He added in a stern voice, "The moment we get the pup, Aurora will be of no use to us anymore. Just find a random excuse or say that she went crazy after the labor and have her banished to the far north."

In response to that, Dominic spoke up, tone gentle but determined, "You don't have to worry about a thing. The pup is healthy and strong. I'm willing to do anything and everything if it's for Vivian!"

From where I stood outside the door, I felt as though all the blood had frozen in my veins.

As it turned out, this was a plot that everyone was involved in together. This so-called family of mine had never once thought of me as one of them. I was nothing but a surrogate mother, a piece of trash that could be thrown away at any moment.

Several minutes later, a maid opened the door to bring in drinks.

Dominic happened to be standing in the foyer, so the instant the door opened, his gaze snapped to the threshold.

There was nobody there.

However, scattered across the floor were the links of the silver chain I had ripped off with my bare hand, along with a piece of paper that had my bloody fingerprints on it.

In werewolf culture, to return a gift from a mate along with one's blood signified that one was rejecting the mate bond.

Dominic's eyes widened, just as a sharp pain lanced through his heart. His hand flew up to clutch at his chest, the agony causing him to fall to his knees.

That was a sign that a crack had appeared in our mate bond.

Face devoid of all color, he dashed out of the house as though he had lost his mind.

Nonetheless, the streets were empty, with only the cold wind howling all around him. The docile she-wolf who had always patiently waited for him was gone.

Terror swamped him, threatening to drown him under.

Hands shaking, he desperately dialed my number.

The moment the call connected, his bellowing voice blasted through the speakers. "Aurora! Where are you?"

I didn't speak.

Instead, what came over the line in reply to Dominic was the cold voice of a healer, asking, "Ms. Aurora, the high-purity wolfsbane serum is ready. This will kill the pup in your womb and sever its bloodline connection to its father. Please sign here."

I distinctly heard Dominic stop breathing.

Several seconds of dead silence later, he abruptly exploded. "Wolfsbane! You're going to kill our pup? That's my only heir! How dare you, Aurora!"

His furious roars simply had my lips curling into a cruel smile, and I didn't hesitate to end the call.

Goodbye, my Alpha!

Goodbye to the pup that was never truly mine!

I laughed softly when Dominic finished speaking. Was he finally remembering that I was his mate?Unfortunately for him, the Aurora who loved him deeply had died long ago on that icy operating table.I stared down at him with a calm and indifferent gaze as I said, "Dominic Carlton, in the name of the princess of this kingdom, I, Aurora Parrell, hereby reject you as my mate forever. I reject your bloodline, your name, and your soul. Let our bond be broken, and from this day forth, let us be nothing but strangers."Following my words, a golden chain shimmered to life between us before shattering completely."Ahhh!" Dominic let out a piercing scream as agony coursed through him. That was from the bond connecting his body and his wolf being forcibly torn apart. As the light in his eyes abruptly blinked out, he lost consciousness. At last, all debts and grudges between us were finally cleared.Vivian didn't escape punishment from the royal family either. She had publicly attempted t

After that apology video, Dominic attempted to contact me."Aurora, I know you don't want to see me, but… I have some words I'd like to say to you face to face, even if it means I'll die."I blocked his number. He no longer had any right to bother or affect me in any way.The next day, the kingdom was celebrating the annual Full Moon Festival at the square.Dressed in an exquisite gown, I stood on a platform as the citizens paid homage to me.Suddenly, there was a disturbance in the crowd.A massive gray wolf, fur disheveled and unkempt, barrelled right through the guards' defense line.It was Vivian! She had forcefully transformed, clearly due to an illegal drug, judging from her bloodshot eyes and the black venom dripping from her fangs."Aurora! I'll kill you!" she screamed. Then, with a howl, she lunged forward with claws outstretched toward my throat."Protect the Princess!" the guards yelled. However, Vivian was just too fast. After such a harsh blow, I thought that Vivian would finally rein herself in and keep her head down.Unexpectedly, she still refused to give up, allowing the jealousy to grow in her wildly. One day, Aiden sent me a link. It took me to an anonymous post on the Werewolf Community Network. The post had an eye-catching title, "The true colors of the werewolf princess: a demon who bullies her younger sister and seizes everything for herself."The content went into detail about all the "tragic experiences" Vivian had gone through, such as how I always bullied her when we were young and how I would snatch all her prey and pretty clothes. Besides that, she claimed that I was incredibly scheming, citing that I would deliberately act docile and obedient when in the presence of others, but when nobody was around, I would force her to let me have my way.She even had the audacity to say that I had forced Sierra and Ollie to give Jason to me as my mate, leaving her with no choice but to part w

The next day, the bloodline resonance test proved that Vivian's pup wasn't related to Jason at all.She had stolen it from a low-ranking rogue and used subpar-quality herbs to conceal its scent. In fact, during the test, the moonstone even turned bright red, warning of the impure bloodline and deceit.Enraged at the revelation, the furious Potter family kicked Vivian out, along with the pup. With that, the once arrogant Vivian now had nothing. She stumbled her way back home, the mud and grime clinging to her making her look even more disheveled.Shoving the front door open, she yelled, "Dad! Mom! Help me! That old coot threw me out!"However, the only answer she received was a dead silence. Her parents were sitting on the living room couch, expressions grim.Acutely sensing that there was something wrong, Vivian strode toward them and urged anxiously, "Dad, Mom, you have to think of something! Even that piece of trash, Dominic, is ignoring me. I have nothing now!"Sierra's head

The absolute dominance of someone from the royal family bloodline had all the common werewolves present instinctively wanting to fall to their knees and submit. This included Dominic, who was an Alpha. The Luna Queen, Malia Thorne, charged over to pull me behind her protectively. Her frosty gaze swept across my adopted parents."Since you've admitted yourselves that Aurora isn't biologically yours, then it's time for this entire facade to end!"Sierra was shocked at Malia's aggressive demeanor, but she forced herself to appear calm. "And which pack are you from? We're just disciplining the stray we took in! Who are you to stick your nose into our business?"At that moment, Raymond came over, a respectful look tinged with fear on his face. He tilted his head to bare his neck—the highest form of respect a werewolf could show another."Greetings, Your Majesty, the Luna Queen!"Immediately, all the color drained from Vivian, Sierra, and Ollie's faces.Malia pinned them with an icy g

Not long after that, the Werewolf Council sanctioned the breaking of our mate bond. When I received the official documentation, I didn't feel any pain at all. On the contrary, I felt as though the invisible shackles that had bound me for over 20 years had finally broken.I headed straight to the resource trade center in the Neutral Zone. This time around, I was no longer the she-wolf behind Dominic. I would rely on my own capabilities and make a name for myself.Upon stepping into the lobby, I immediately sensed a gaze lock onto me.It was a she-wolf dressed in luxurious furs. She emanated a strong presence, the kind that only members of the royal family had. The sheer pressure of it had the common werewolves around her too afraid to even look at her.She was staring right at me, emotions swirling in her eyes. It was as though she had seen a long-lost relative. After a moment of hesitation, she approached me. "Hello, miss. May I have a moment of your time?"I instinctively want
