Chapter 422

Author: Millie Bridge
Henry scoffed coldly when he saw me.

"Do you know why I don't like you and instead like Lianne so much? It's because you're so cold and heartless!" he spat. "William and Noah Ashford have treated you so well. Yet, you can just stand by and watch Ava die."

He added, "It's no wonder your mother and I don't even love you. Someone like you deserves to die alone!"

His current behavior only made me feel even more certain that I had been giving him too much credit. He probably wasn't the kind of person I had been imagining. But then, I recalled how Julianne had faked her death, and suddenly, I wasn't so sure.

Irvin hadn't helped Julianne with it, and she wasn't capable of pulling off something like this on her own. That meant someone must have helped her.

If it wasn't Irvin, then my parents were the next most likely people. And if Henry was as he appeared to be now, he definitely didn't have the skills to help Julianne fake her death.

Upon meeting my scrutinizing gaze, Henry didn't say

Glancing toward Matthew, who had been standing at the side, William began issuing commands.Matthew's eyes widened in shock once William was done. "But sir, this… Isn't it…"He was shocked. Wasn't Grace William's savior? He had clearly collaborated with her to help her make money and gain control over the Kellers through it.Now, William was… His commands were…It seemed he was turning this collaboration into a massive trap that would sink Grace.Matthew wanted to understand why his employer had gone from wanting to help Grace to plotting her downfall. Even so, he ultimately didn't ask.Aside from being a very capable person, the crucial reason Matthew had been able to stay by William's side for so long was that he knew when not to ask questions. And this was obviously something he shouldn't be questioning. After Matthew left, William retrieved a folder from his desk drawer. At the top of the folder was a high-definition photo of me.William stared at it as his mind wandered ba

I knew what Cordelia was thinking, but romance and love really didn't matter to me anymore. Right now, all I wanted was to give birth to my babies, further my studies, and immerse myself in the world of research."My babies and research will be enough to keep me busy. I won't feel sorry for myself, and I definitely won't have time to feel lonely," I said. Then, without waiting for her to respond, I added, "Nowadays, you can see online that there are a lot of single mothers who conceive through IVF. There are also many married women who think it's better to have a rich, idle husband who doesn't come home. It's even become trending for novels to feature independent, single female protagonists!"Cordelia was speechless because what I was saying was true."So stop overthinking. This is a good thing. Think about it—if I had undergone IVF, who knows what kind of man the sperm donor I chose would be? Irvin did favor Julianne and acted brainlessly because he was biased toward her. But over

I was speechless."That's how it always goes in novels!" Cordelia confidently declared. Her husband and I couldn't help laughing at her self-assuredness. We both felt she had read too many romance novels and had been sucked in too deep into the fictional world. Neither of us imagined that her suspicion was actually true. After all, art often imitated life. After dinner, Cordelia dragged us off for karaoke to keep the celebration going. And by the end of that day, I had learned a lot about her husband, Hugo Chapman.Cordelia had always wanted to date without commitment. But now, I finally understood why she had been so eager to marry Hugo.In such a pragmatic, interest-driven world, it was rare to meet someone who was so genuinely kind and sincere. On top of that, Hugo was completely immersed in his work as an archaeologist. It was as though he lived in an ivory tower, untouched by the grime of the real world. Both parties would be a good match if they were both well-off. Since

Beating me to the punch, Cordelia answered, "Yup. Emi's body hadn't fully healed at the time. So she was really putting her life at risk when she saved that person! "She even dragged him all the way up the beach before leaving to get help. But when she came back, the person was already gone."As mentioned, Cordelia loved reading romance novels. Back then, on Daiti, we learned Julianne had rescued William and that a big shot like him was whisking a housekeeper like her away to be pampered. When Cordelia heard this, she couldn't help recalling the person I had saved. Now, when she talked about it, she was a little rueful. Cordelia wondered why the person I had saved wasn't some handsome hunk who had tracked me down to repay me. She was disappointed that there was no romantic twist like in the stories she read.Knowing exactly what Cordelia was thinking, I couldn't help laughing."It's already in the past. Stop sulking over it," I teased.Cordelia pouted. "I just think it's so unfa

Ever since my memories came back, I had been living in constant inner turmoil. Trapped between letting go and holding on, the pain had been so agonizing. Now, I had finally and completely walked away from that pain. Truly, this feeling could only be described as relief.Cordelia knew how torn and miserable I had been. She could tell I was truly at peace now—which immediately eased her worry."That's great, darling! Your beautiful life is finally starting! Wait for me, okay? I'll take time off right away and come back to celebrate with you!" she exclaimed joyfully.Remembering my pregnancy, I said with a smile, "Okay. When you're back, I'll tell you more good news."I gently stroked my still-flat belly. Even though I would never be with Irvin again, I had still decided to keep the babies growing inside me.After what happened with Gideon, I didn't dare to marry just any man anymore. I had already planned to visit a sperm bank to select a donor and conceive through IVF.But now th

When I reached the door, I turned my head and looked back at him. With a small smile, I said, "Goodbye, Irvin."Our relationship had such a beautiful beginning. Now that things between us had come to an end, I wanted it to end on a good note too.So many things had happened between us, and I had suffered a lot. Regardless, I only wanted to stop loving Irvin. I had never once regretted falling in love with him. Meeting and falling in love with him would always be the best thing that had ever happened to me.Irvin returned my smile. He wanted me to remember him the way I liked most—when he looked his most handsome."Goodbye, Emi. Make sure to take care of yourself," he said.Still smiling, I waved at him. "I will."I didn't wait for a response and left. My steps were firm, free from hesitation or doubt.I truly didn't love Irvin as much as I used to. Over time, my lingering reluctance to let him go should eventually fade—once and for all. When I had divorced Irvin, I had also
