Cecilia screamed before Alex even touched her.

Her voice tore through the room, sharp and frantic — and in that instant, Alex froze mid-step. His body trembled. His grip on the fork loosened. His knees gave way.

Without warning, he collapsed to the floor.

Florence screamed. Felix rushed to his son and knelt beside him, his heart pounding as he checked his pulse. Blood trickled slowly from the gash on Alex’s head, staining the marble floor beneath him.

“Call the hospital!” Felix shouted, scooping his son in his arms.

Florence moved toward the door in panic, but Felix stopped her. “No. Stay. Please take care of Cecilia,” he said firmly. “She needs you right now.”

Before she could protest, Felix slipped the small velvet box into her hand. “This is still yours. Nothing changes,” he whispered.

Her hands trembled as she opened the box. The ring sparkled like a promise under the hallway light. With a deep breath, she slid it onto her finger, her heart pounding from both joy and

The sun had barely begun to set when Florence stepped out of the hospital doors, her arm resting lightly on Felix’s. Cecilia and Alex trailed behind in silence, tension thick between them. Just as they moved toward the parking lot, a familiar voice echoed from behind. “Mr. Felix!” They turned to find Detective Obasi approaching with two officers flanking him. “Detective,” Felix greeted, nodding. “Thanks for coming.” Obasi smiled faintly. “Actually, I came with urgent updates. I need to speak with you all—together. It’s very important.” Felix sighed. “Detective, my wife has just been discharged and cleared by the doctors. Can we have this conversation at home instead?” “No problem,” Obasi said, glancing toward Alex and Cecilia. “But I’ll prefer we’re all together. Cecilia and Alex as well. Please.” Florence spoke up, “That’s fine. Let’s head to my husband’s house so you can update us properly.” Cecilia crossed her arms. “Mum, since you’re going with them, I’ll just head

The sharp wail of sirens shattered the stillness of the night as Florence was rushed into the hospital, unconscious and bleeding. Felix paced frantically alongside the stretcher, his heart pounding like a war drum. “Help her! Please, someone help her!” he shouted, his voice cracking from a mixture of panic and desperation. The nurses and doctors sprang into action, wheeling Florence away into the emergency ward. Felix stood frozen, breathing heavily, stained with blood that wasn’t his. All he could do was pray. Minutes later, his phone rang. It was Cecilia. “Hello?” Her voice was shaky. “Cecilia… it’s your mum. She’s been shot. We’re at St. Mary’s General Hospital,” Felix said, barely able to get the words out. “What?! What do you mean shot?! Felix, what happened?” she screamed. “I don’t know, I swear. We were at the restaurant. Talking. Then suddenly—” His voice faltered. “A gunshot. Just like that. She collapsed. Please come.” Cecilia didn’t wait. She left Rebecca’s house imm

Cecilia’s eyes widened in horror as Rebecca swung the door open. Her heart raced. “What!!!” she shouted, already bracing herself for the worst. But it was just… Kay. A tall, caramel-skinned guy wearing glasses and holding a laptop bag. He smiled politely, looking slightly confused by Cecilia’s reaction. Rebecca chuckled and rolled her eyes. “Cecilia, calm down. It’s Kay—my friend. He’s the one I told you about earlier who’s helping me with my graphic design project.” Cecilia inhaled sharply and placed her hand on her chest, trying to calm her pounding heart. “I… I thought it was someone else.” Kay offered his hand. “Hi. You must be Cecilia. I’ve heard about you. It’s nice to meet you.” “Same here,” she muttered with a weak smile, still shaken. Rebecca led Kay in and waved Cecilia back to her food. “Go and eat joor, don’t mind her,” Rebecca teased. “Kay and I will be working inside. I’ll be done soon.” Cecilia nodded quietly and went to the kitchen. But even as she ch

Cecilia didn’t wait a second longer. Heart still thudding from the strange message, she left the hospital and headed straight to Rebecca’s apartment. Her mind was racing — not just from what happened at the hospital, but from the cryptic message that echoed like a ticking time bomb in her thoughts. Rebecca opened the door, shocked to see Cecilia looking pale and shaken. “Cee… what happened? You look like you just saw a ghost.” “I wish it was just a ghost,” Cecilia muttered, stepping inside. They moved to the living room. The air smelled of jasmine candles, but Cecilia’s presence brought a heavy tension. She collapsed onto the couch and handed Rebecca her phone. Rebecca’s brows furrowed as she read the message. Tell your mum to enjoy the ring while it still shines. It won’t be long. Rebecca was shocked, Cecilia explained all what happened from the proposal scene to the hospital scene up to when the message crept in. “That has to be Alex,” Rebecca said, rolling her eyes. “Cee,

Felix stepped out of his office, his polished shoes echoing softly against the marble floor. The elevator door slid open and he stepped in pressing the button to the ground floor with calm precision. He walked outside, opened the car and settled into the back seat of a sleek black, Lexus RX 350 neatly packed outside, glowing under the sun he adjusted his watch, looking calm but focused. "Where are we going sir", the driver asked glancing through the rear view mirror "Let's head home", he said, then paused. But first stop by a good jewelry store u think they sell expensive stuffs , I need to get something." The driver nodded without questions already sensing it was for someone important. They headed to a high end jewelry store and later went back home. Felix settled on his bed and took a small rest before, he finally took a shower. Felix dressed like a man who who knew the night meant something, he didn't come in suit tonight, he came in culture, and class, he wore a deep
