ADRIAN POV.

“I've witnessed a lot of hungry, horny guys in my time sir, and you are one of them.” I gulped down the alcohol in the glass, making a face as the hot substance hit my throat.

I poured another drink. “What kind of a guy goes after another woman while being engaged to someone.” Her words rang in my head. I loosened my tie.

“And moreover I can never date someone younger.” I gulped down the drink.

Frustration boiled within me. How could she think of me that way? I wanted to break something, anything, but instead, I settled for the burn of the alcohol.

I forcefully placed the glass on the table, with the loud noise reverberating in the vacant room. She was constantly on my mind.

Her resistance, her power, her sheer stubbornness. And that night in the UK… It was more than just a mistake or a passing moment.

I felt a connection, a spark I hadn’t felt with anyone else, that night together, I felt at peace, it was as if we complimented each other.

I paced the room, running a hand through my hair. My phone buzzed, a text from Vera. I ignored it, not in the mood to deal with her right now.

I sank into a chair, staring at the half-empty bottle on the table. My mind wandered back to Katherine. Her fiery spirit, and the way she stood up to me, were infuriating and yet…intoxicating.

I chuckled. Someone younger. She called me a horny hungry boy. I was anything but those things.

If she thought my age was what qualified me for being an adult or older person, then she was wrong.

I had grown beyond my years, can't she see that what I felt was real? Why was she so determined to push me away?

“D*mn it, Katherine,” I muttered, pouring another drink. I needed to make her see that this wasn’t just lust, that there was something deeper. But how?

I inclined back, shutting my eyes, letting the drink numb my thoughts. I need to make sure she sees that we could be more than just boss and employee.

Katherine Turner had kindled something in me, and I wasn’t about to let that flame die out.

The next morning, I remained seated at my desk, reviewing emails and reports, yet my thoughts continued to wander back to Katherine.

Her eyes had filled with rage, her voice had quivered with feeling. It had all struck a chord within me.

A gentle knock on the door dragged me from my reflections. “Come in,” I said.

I looked up to see Katherine standing there, holding the same file from yesterday. She looked hesitant.

"Sir, good morning," she greeted.

I hated the coldness in her tone, but I understood the need to be cautious.

“Good morning. Please, have a seat.”

She sat down, placing the file on my desk. “About the report…”

I interrupted her. “We’ll get to that later. But first, I want to apologize for last night.”

She blinked, surprised. “Sir, there's no need…”

“There is,” I interrupted gently. “I exceeded my limits, and for that, I'm sorry. You were right to call me out.”

She looked surprised, as if she hadn't expected me to admit any fault. “It is fine sir,” she said, her voice softening a fraction.

I offered her a slight smile and said, "Let's discuss the report now."

While we talked about the report specifics, I couldn't resist sneaking looks at her. She looked so beautiful and curvy. I could watch her all day.

The meeting ended, and Katherine stood to leave. “If there's nothing else, sir, I’ll get back to work.”

I nodded, watching her go. “Thank you, Katherine.”

She paused at the door, giving me a brief, confused look before stepping out. I smiled, the game was on.

Weeks passed, and I noticed my game was starting to have an effect on Katherine. I pretended to be sorry and also caused sexual tension between us.

Even though she tried to be professional and organized, I had seen the strain in her eyes. I had smelled her arousal and it made me want to push her onto my desk and f**k her brains out.

One evening, the office was quiet. Everyone had vacated the office, but Katherine was still at her desk, buried under a heap of paperwork.

I had deliberately given her a lot of work to do, knowing she would stay late to complete it.

I observed her from my office, she tucked a piece of hair behind her ear and nibbled on her lip while focusing on typing on her computer.

Her beauty made it increasingly challenging to control my emotions every time I laid eyes on her. She looked more in her late twenties than forties.

I walked over to her desk, trying to keep it professional. “Katherine, it’s late. You should go home.”

She looked up, surprised to see me. “I’m almost done, sir. Just a few more files to go through.”

I inclined against her desk, my eyes fixed on hers. “You’ve been working hard. You need to rest.”

She sighed lightly, massaging her temples. “I know, but this will be needed in the meeting tomorrow.”

I reached out, gently touching her hand. The touch sent a jolt of spark through me, and I could see she felt it too.

Her eyes dilated, and she quickly yanked her hand away, but the spark between us was unmistakable.

“Let me assist you,” I said softly.

She shook her head, trying to recover her composure. “I can manage, sir.”

I moved closer, “Katherine. Let me help.”

She stood up, compiling the files to create some space. “I’m fine. Really, sir.”

I frowned slightly. “Call me Adrian, please.”

She shook her head, “You’re my boss. It’s not right.”

I moved closer again, leaning in slightly. “Katherine, I want you to call me Adrian.” I insisted.

She swallowed hard, her eyes darting away from mine. “It’s not professional.”

D*mn! She's stubborn. I leaned in even closer, my breath touching against her ear. “Since when have we been entirely professional with each other?”

Her breath caught again, and I could see the inner battle she was fighting. “Please, sir. Let’s keep this…appropriate.”

I pulled back just a little, my eyes still locked on hers. “Fine. But you should go home. You need rest.”

She paused, and quickly cleared her throat. “I need to finish this.”

I smiled, a teasing sparkle in my eye. “You can finish it tomorrow. You need to go home to your daughter.”

She opened her mouth to protest, but I cut her off. “That’s an order, Katherine.”

She looked flustered, and I knew I had left her frustrated. I stood up, giving her one last long stare. “Goodnight, Katherine.”

  • Love beyond Numbers   Sack her immediately!

Adrian’s POV. I leaned back in my chair, staring at the document on my screen, but my mind wasn’t on work. I couldn’t focus. My father’s words from last night still echoed in my head, gnawing at me. “Why the hell did you take her daughter to the event?” he had snapped when I arrived that evening. His voice was as cold as ever, dripping with disapproval. I’d lied, said Mr. Sterling gave permission, but we both knew that was a weak excuse. My father didn’t care about reasons, he cared about control. “You’re done with the project, Adrian,” he had said, his tone sharp. “Get rid of her. Sack her immediately.” I’d tried to reason. “We haven’t found a replacement yet—” “I don’t care,” he cut me off. “After the party tomorrow, I expect her to be gone. If you don’t handle it, I will.” The knot in my stomach tightened. I hated these conversations with my father. Everything was a dem

  • Love beyond Numbers   But don't get too comfortable, Katherine.

Katherine’s POV.I was trying to blend in, standing by the wall, fiddling with the strap of my purse. The ballroom was buzzing with chatter, laughter, and clinking glasses. But it felt like I was the only one not having a good time. And then, out of the corner of my eye, I spotted her. Vera.I stiffened instantly. The last person I wanted to see today.I tried to look away, but she’d already seen me. Of course, she had. Vera always had a way of finding people when they didn’t want to be found. Before I could even think about slipping away, she was walking straight toward me, her heels clicking against the marble floor. She had that smug look on her face, the one that made me feel like she already knew what she was going to say—and how it was going to hurt.“Well, look at you,” Vera said, her eyes scanning me from head to toe. “Trying to look fancy, I see.”I stayed quiet, not trusting myself to speak. I didn’t want to give her any

  • Love beyond Numbers   Don't get lost in all this glamor

Katherine’s POV. It was a new day. Charlotte had already left for college early in the morning. I stood by the window, sipping my tea, watching the empty driveway where her car had been parked just an hour ago. She was growing up so fast. I smiled. I had my daughter back. It had never felt so good before. I needed to get ready myself. Adrian wasn’t coming to pick me up today; because– you know why. I’d asked Zoe to swing by since she had a car. She’d agreed, thank goodness. I wasn’t in the mood for the long commute alone. I headed to the bathroom to start my morning routine, deciding to apply a quick face mask before the rush. I felt sluggish, maybe a bit overwhelmed by the day ahead. The party later loomed over me like a cloud, but I pushed the thought aside, focusing on the moment. When I returned to the bedroom, wiping my hands dry, my phone was buzzing on the dresser.

  • Love beyond Numbers   Can we go back soon?

Katherine’s POV. Later that evening, as we all gathered around the dinner table, I could feel a strange tension lingering between Ashley and Owen. She sat next to me, absentmindedly pushing her food around her plate while Owen and Adrian engaged in a lively conversation about business. Across the table, Charlotte and the kids were giggling, recounting the highlights of the day’s events—how it was the ‘best birthday ever.’ My attention drifted back to Ashley. Did she tell him? I could see her mind was clearly elsewhere. I leaned in closer, my voice barely above a whisper. “How did it go?” I asked, my hand brushing hers in a gentle, reassuring gesture. She sighed, her lips pressing together for a moment before she shook her head. “I didn’t get the chance to tell him,” she murmured. Her voice was soft and filled with frustration. “The kids ran in befo

  • Love beyond Numbers   Stay the night

KATHERINE POV. Saturday afternoon. Ashley looked nervous as she reached out and gently took my hand. “Come with me,” she whispered, glancing around. Without waiting for a reply, she led me toward the terrace, where the warm afternoon air greeted us. The noise from the party faded behind us, replaced by the soft rustle of leaves and distant laughter. I looked at her, puzzled. “Ashley, what’s going on?” I asked, trying to keep my voice calm despite the knot forming in my stomach. She took a deep breath, turning to face me. “I’ve been waiting for you to come,” she admitted softly. “I’m the one who asked Owen to convince you all to come over.” My brows knitted together in surprise. “You did? Why? Is everything okay?” Ashley shook her head, her gaze dropping to the ground. “No, it’s not,” she confessed, placing a hand on her stomach. “You were right

Katherine’s POV. SATURDAY. The next morning, I woke up early. Sunlight streamed through the large window, casting a warm glow over the room. For a moment, I just lay there, staring at the ceiling, trying to gather my thoughts. Today was the big day—the event, Mr. Sterling's twins' birthday, and Charlotte's birthday, all wrapped into one. It felt like there was so much happening at once, and I wasn't sure how it would all unfold. After a quick shower, I dressed in one of the outfits Adrian had sent us. It was a lovely dress, simple yet elegant, and it made me feel a little more confident about the day ahead. I heard a knock on my door just as I finished getting ready. “Mom, are you up?” It was Charlotte's voice. “Come in,” I called, and she opened the door, already dressed and looking more excited than ever. “You look beautiful,” I said, smiling at her. “Than
