ADRIAN POV

Ever since that intense moment in my office, Kat had been avoiding me, it made me want her even more.

I knew she felt the connection too. I had seen her eyes dilate nervously and her breathing became ragged anytime I passed by her desk.

And I must say, not only was she beautiful, but she was also extremely intelligent. I often checked her work progress and was impressed.

Her supervisor had good things to say about her. I had seen how she took the reins in board meetings when presenting.

Professional and chic. But I wanted her close. I wanted that night, every night. And when I took a drastic step, I knew she would come knocking.

“Come in,” I said as I reclined on my chair. Katherine entered with a frown which she tried to hide under professionalism.

“Good morning, sir.”

She was dressed in a sleek white pencil skirt and a red blouse that complemented her figure perfectly.

Damn! Red. How wish she knew what her beauty was doing to me.

“Good morning, Ms. Turner,” I replied, gesturing for her to take a seat. She remained standing.

“Do you need something, Katherine?” I asked, feigning innocence.

She took a deep breath. “I came in this morning to resume my work, only to be informed by my supervisor that my job description has been changed.”

I smiled, leaning forward. “Yes, it's true. You're now my personal assistant, I believe you are the best to assist me.”

Her eyes widened. “Why wasn't I informed about this change?”

“I wanted to discuss it with you personally.” I said, reclining in my chair. “This position comes with a momentous increase in salary. I thought you might appreciate the opportunity.”

Her frown deepened. “I loved my job, I don't think I would want to change that sir.”

I smiled, keeping my gaze fixed on her. “I think you're capable of much more and I'm sure you need the money more, so…”

She crossed her arms, “I still prefer my job, sir.” Her stubbornness amused me, she knew why I did it.

“Well, I am the CEO, quite fortunate right?” she looked clearly unconvinced. “This is about your potential and nothing more.”

She passed me a glance and I smirked. “I need an assistant, and you, Ms. Turner, are the perfect fit for me… for the job.”

“I don't have a choice, or do I?” she asked sarcastically which elicited a chuckle from me.

She sighed, looking torn. “Fine. I’ll take the position, but I expect a clear outline of my new responsibilities.”

“Of course,” I agreed, trying to hide my satisfaction. “We’ll discuss everything in detail later today.”

Katherine nodded and turned to leave.

“Wait, Katherine,” I called after her. She turned back, her expression challenging. “Where are you going?”

“Outside,” she replied, confused.

I smiled. “I guess you’ve forgotten that you’re now my PA. Your office is there, right beside mine.” I gestured to the open office beside mine.

My office is a translucent one, I can see everything going on around me but they won't see me or whatever I was doing inside.

Perfect spot. She walked away, her black heels clicking on the floor. I watched her butt sway seductively and my eyes darkened.

I decided to give Kat some time, not wanting to rush things but take it slow. In her new role, she excelled, impressing me with her skills and dedication.

Even without being in her department anymore, she helped a lot. And as my impression of her increased, so did the need for me to be closer to her.

I discovered she was divorced with an 18-year-old daughter. I wouldn't have believed she was a mother to such a grown-up.

I couldn't help but feel hatred and appreciation for her ex. He was such a loser to let go of her and I was glad because if they hadn't separated, she wouldn't be here.

One morning, as I reviewed the latest reports, I saw Kat’s proposal for improving our internal communication systems.

Her suggestions were sharp and practical, exactly what we needed. I smiled, thinking about how brilliant she was.

One afternoon, Lilian and Vera; my fiance came to visit. Vera was all over me, openly flirting, while Lilian teased us about making her jealous of our relationship.

It wasn't a relationship. It was a family deal, I wasn't happy when I was told I was going to get married to her, but I didn't have a choice, I wanted to please Dad and be the new CEO.

I remembered that evening when I met him at the observatory and congratulated me on my win. I was all smiles, at least he acknowledged my effort.

But when he said I had to get married to Vera immediately, I knew I had to do something. Convincing him was like trying to move a mountain.

I convinced Vera to convince her father and mine that we should take it slow, explore the world, and know each other better before settling down and thankfully they agreed.

That was my saving grace. But her father had said we had to get married next year, and that might still buy me more time to come up with another excuse.

“Adrian, where are you taking me for our second-year dating anniversary?” Vera asked, her voice dripping with sweetness as she clung to my arm.

I glanced at her, forcing a smile. “You can make the arrangements for wherever you want to go.”

“Mauritius?” Lilian asked with a smile. “And I hope I will tag along.” I was about to say something when the door suddenly burst open.

Katherine entered with a file in her hands. “Excuse me, sir,” she began but was quickly cut off by Vera.

“Excuse you? How insolent. Don’t you know how to knock?” Vera snapped, her tone icy.

Kat looked taken aback. “I’m sorry, I thought I heard–”

Lilian frowned. “You thought you heard what? Now go back outside, knock, and wait for a response before entering”

Kat’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment. “Of course.” She turned to walk out.

  • Love beyond Numbers   Sack her immediately!

Adrian’s POV. I leaned back in my chair, staring at the document on my screen, but my mind wasn’t on work. I couldn’t focus. My father’s words from last night still echoed in my head, gnawing at me. “Why the hell did you take her daughter to the event?” he had snapped when I arrived that evening. His voice was as cold as ever, dripping with disapproval. I’d lied, said Mr. Sterling gave permission, but we both knew that was a weak excuse. My father didn’t care about reasons, he cared about control. “You’re done with the project, Adrian,” he had said, his tone sharp. “Get rid of her. Sack her immediately.” I’d tried to reason. “We haven’t found a replacement yet—” “I don’t care,” he cut me off. “After the party tomorrow, I expect her to be gone. If you don’t handle it, I will.” The knot in my stomach tightened. I hated these conversations with my father. Everything was a dem

  • Love beyond Numbers   But don't get too comfortable, Katherine.

Katherine’s POV.I was trying to blend in, standing by the wall, fiddling with the strap of my purse. The ballroom was buzzing with chatter, laughter, and clinking glasses. But it felt like I was the only one not having a good time. And then, out of the corner of my eye, I spotted her. Vera.I stiffened instantly. The last person I wanted to see today.I tried to look away, but she’d already seen me. Of course, she had. Vera always had a way of finding people when they didn’t want to be found. Before I could even think about slipping away, she was walking straight toward me, her heels clicking against the marble floor. She had that smug look on her face, the one that made me feel like she already knew what she was going to say—and how it was going to hurt.“Well, look at you,” Vera said, her eyes scanning me from head to toe. “Trying to look fancy, I see.”I stayed quiet, not trusting myself to speak. I didn’t want to give her any

  • Love beyond Numbers   Don't get lost in all this glamor

Katherine’s POV. It was a new day. Charlotte had already left for college early in the morning. I stood by the window, sipping my tea, watching the empty driveway where her car had been parked just an hour ago. She was growing up so fast. I smiled. I had my daughter back. It had never felt so good before. I needed to get ready myself. Adrian wasn’t coming to pick me up today; because– you know why. I’d asked Zoe to swing by since she had a car. She’d agreed, thank goodness. I wasn’t in the mood for the long commute alone. I headed to the bathroom to start my morning routine, deciding to apply a quick face mask before the rush. I felt sluggish, maybe a bit overwhelmed by the day ahead. The party later loomed over me like a cloud, but I pushed the thought aside, focusing on the moment. When I returned to the bedroom, wiping my hands dry, my phone was buzzing on the dresser.

  • Love beyond Numbers   Can we go back soon?

Katherine’s POV. Later that evening, as we all gathered around the dinner table, I could feel a strange tension lingering between Ashley and Owen. She sat next to me, absentmindedly pushing her food around her plate while Owen and Adrian engaged in a lively conversation about business. Across the table, Charlotte and the kids were giggling, recounting the highlights of the day’s events—how it was the ‘best birthday ever.’ My attention drifted back to Ashley. Did she tell him? I could see her mind was clearly elsewhere. I leaned in closer, my voice barely above a whisper. “How did it go?” I asked, my hand brushing hers in a gentle, reassuring gesture. She sighed, her lips pressing together for a moment before she shook her head. “I didn’t get the chance to tell him,” she murmured. Her voice was soft and filled with frustration. “The kids ran in befo

  • Love beyond Numbers   Stay the night

KATHERINE POV. Saturday afternoon. Ashley looked nervous as she reached out and gently took my hand. “Come with me,” she whispered, glancing around. Without waiting for a reply, she led me toward the terrace, where the warm afternoon air greeted us. The noise from the party faded behind us, replaced by the soft rustle of leaves and distant laughter. I looked at her, puzzled. “Ashley, what’s going on?” I asked, trying to keep my voice calm despite the knot forming in my stomach. She took a deep breath, turning to face me. “I’ve been waiting for you to come,” she admitted softly. “I’m the one who asked Owen to convince you all to come over.” My brows knitted together in surprise. “You did? Why? Is everything okay?” Ashley shook her head, her gaze dropping to the ground. “No, it’s not,” she confessed, placing a hand on her stomach. “You were right

Katherine’s POV. SATURDAY. The next morning, I woke up early. Sunlight streamed through the large window, casting a warm glow over the room. For a moment, I just lay there, staring at the ceiling, trying to gather my thoughts. Today was the big day—the event, Mr. Sterling's twins' birthday, and Charlotte's birthday, all wrapped into one. It felt like there was so much happening at once, and I wasn't sure how it would all unfold. After a quick shower, I dressed in one of the outfits Adrian had sent us. It was a lovely dress, simple yet elegant, and it made me feel a little more confident about the day ahead. I heard a knock on my door just as I finished getting ready. “Mom, are you up?” It was Charlotte's voice. “Come in,” I called, and she opened the door, already dressed and looking more excited than ever. “You look beautiful,” I said, smiling at her. “Than
