"What are you doing, Jazper Ray?"

This place felt... peaceful. Almost like a dream. I found some kind of calm here.

"Counting footsteps. Try it."

He stepped forward slowly. "Eighty-three... eighty-four..."

"Eighty-five..." I said, stepping beside him. "Eighty-five footsteps and counting."

"Is this the end of it?" I asked.

He smiled and gently touched my face. "Nope. Not until we find what we're looking for."

I frowned. "That’s it? You keep walking without even knowing what you’re after?"

He let go of my face and looked at me seriously. "I kind of know what I’m looking for. What about you?"

I was caught off guard. He knew what he wanted… but me? I didn’t. I felt lost. Like I’d been searching for something I couldn’t name.

My head suddenly throbbed. Everything dimmed. I sat down on the sand and covered my face.

"I don’t know!" I yelled, my chest tightening. "I really don’t know! Maybe I wasn’t looking for anyone until I met you!"

"Shh." He hushed me, pressing his hand gently over my mou

"Romeo! Rose!"My sadness vanished the moment I saw them. My friends.Around us, the other officemates glanced at each other, clearly surprised to see me walk in.“Dad!!”“Audrey!!”They rushed toward me, and I wrapped them in a tight hug.“Dad! What happened to you? We were so worried! I thought you’d… ended up somewhere else,” Romeo said, his voice cracking. “You’ve been worrying us so much! Don’t do that again, okay? Where did you even come from?”I placed the paper on my old desk and sat down, trying to steady myself.“Yes, Audrey! You witch, where have you been? You haven’t let us sleep for days!” Rose chimed in, half-scolding, half-relieved.“True, Dad!” Romeo added.“We broke up,” I said quietly.“Child?” Rose blinked in surprise. “You don’t even have a boyfriend, &rd

I’m sorry again,” she added, tilting her head. “Everything will be okay. Okay?”Then she grabbed a fistful of her own hair and burst into laughter.“Are you crazy?” I snapped, my patience snapping with it.“No. Are you?” she shot back, smiling like the devil.Ah. She’s playing her game.If she weren’t pregnant, I might have dragged her out by the hair and introduced her face to the nearest wall. But there’s a line you don’t cross when there’s a child involved.“Where’s Jazper Ray?” I folded my arms, matching her pose.“Stepped out for a moment.” She slid into the chair by his desk. I took the seat opposite her.She crossed her legs. I did the same. She raised an eyebrow. I matched it.“Why are you copying me?” she asked, voice tight.“Why are you copying me?” I shot back

Back in high school, I had zero self-confidence. Group projects? I hid behind the loud ones. Reporting in front of the class? My hands shook so badly I could barely hold the paper. Even answering a teacher’s question, even when I knew the answer, felt like standing on a cliff’s edge.It took years to climb out of that hole. By the time I graduated college, by the time I applied to Jazper Ray’s company, I’d built something solid in myself. Or so I thought. And then, just like that, it was gone. Breaking up with Jazper Ray didn’t just feel like losing him. It felt like losing everything. Like walking into a job interview, handing over your best self… and being told you’re not good enough for the position. Now, I have to pretend the confidence is still there. Because today, I’m working with him again. He’s still my boss.“Keep breathing, sleepy head,” Ivan said beside me, his voice casual, but hi

"Alright, give me that freaking apple."I watched Ericka take it, chewing slowly before biting again."Just don’t tell Jazper Ray, alright?" she said.I covered my mouth, my stomach twisting. Is it possible? That Ericka witch… she’s even deceiving Jazper Ray now? Did she tell him he’s the father? Is she really that desperate to get him?I quietly closed the door, not wanting to hear another word."Audrey…"I froze where I stood.I closed my eyes. Please tell me she wasn’t the one who called me. Please… tell me it’s not him standing behind me. Please… please…"Audrey…"His voice was soft, so much softer than when we last met.It had been five days, but was I ready to see him?"What are you doing here?" There was concern in his tone.I slowly turned halfway, but he didn’t answer. "I’m with someone," I said inst

"Sleepyhead, stay here, okay? I’ll see you at six," Ivan said with a smile."Alright," I answered shortly and turned to walk away. He’d been insisting I go with him to the hospital. It was for his regular check-up — he does this once a month. I kept wondering why. Was he checking if he had HIV or something? The thought made me chuckle. Just five days ago, he’d been crying nonstop.Still, I was confused. Those friends of his wouldn’t even let me out, and now here I was, left behind while Sharmaine stayed in the condo doing her chores.Five days had passed, yet I couldn’t stop thinking about Jazper Ray. What had happened to him? Am I really a masochist? Because no matter what happened between us recently, part of me still worried. Was he thinking about me, too?I sighed and sat at the bottom of the stairs. Sleep was pulling me under again. Maybe it was because I barely slept at night — lying awake until late, m

I sat on the porch outside the hospital for a few minutes, trying to catch my breath. Things aren’t getting better. They’re just… not.“Sleepyhead.”Ivan dropped into the seat beside me, pulled something from his pocket, and lit up a cigarette.“I’ve been looking for you. Where did you go?”I just stared at him, that annoyed, do n’t-push-me kind of stare. I wasn’t sure if I was pissed at him for smoking, or because of what I’d just learned about Jazper Ray. Probably both.He took another drag. “Hey, what’s with the mood?” He moved the cigarette to his other hand, keeping it away from me.“I didn’t know you smoked,” I said flatly. He winked, that crooked smile in place. “Now you know.”The smell hit me again, sharp and suffocating. I coughed and waved the smoke away. “Ivan, can you not?”“Sure, sure. Sorry.” He stepped five paces back and leaned against a post, still smoking. And of course, now every woman passing on the street was staring at him, tall, handsome, one hand in his pock
