IVAN’S POV

I enjoyed the startled look on her face. Far too much than I would like to admit. That was what she gets for keeping me waiting. Nothing no one has ever done or can afford to do. Yet this woman, with lips that were too pink for her own good and was currently staring at me with fear in her eyes, dared to do so. It was rather unsettling.

“ Pretending to be a statue won't make me forget your actions. ” I said, when she still didn't move after all.

“ Really? It was worth a try though. ” She sassed before walking towards the seat next to mine and sitting down.

She smelt of vanilla and coconuts. While I noticed it was beyond me but as she passed by me, I unconsciously inhaled her scent and let it fill me.

What the hell was I doing?

“ I was late because your dare fiancée kept me busy. ” She muttered, almost in an accusatory tone. “ She's pretty persuasive. ”

“ Those shopping bags–” I started.

“....are her handworks. ” Reign completed for me. “ She just wouldn't stop and before I k

MELANIE’S POV I blinked my eyes open slowly, squinting them as the light felt piercing. I did that until my eyes got adjusted to the light and I could open them fully without it hurting. My eyebrows raised at the white ceiling and I turned my face sideways, taking note of the machine and IV drip connected to me.I was in a hospital. Why? What happened? Then it hit me.I had been in an accident.I raised my hands up, eyeing the bruises lining them up before dropping them back to my sides, sighing as I did so. At least I survived, I couldn't complain, not even when all parts of my body ached and it hurt to move. But it was still uncomfortable to just lie there and stare at the ceiling so I tried to sit up.“Mel!” I looked over as someone exclaimed and ran over to me. Their fast movement made me dizzy so I had to blink several times before I could make out their figure. “You shouldn't be sitting up just yet.”I nodded and did as she said, unable to take my eyes off her. Her eyes were r

REIGN'S POV Was I running away? Did I think that leaving would erase what I had done? I clenched the hand I had placed on the wall for support. The message couldn't stop ringing in my head.Mel got hurt because of me.She got hurt because of me.It was my fault. I did that to her.Who the hell did I think I was, crying and holding her hand when I was the person that did that to her?I was not worthy.“The roof top of this hospital is pretty nice and it has a nice view of the city too, especially at night.” A patient was telling another one as they passed beside me.“Oh really? Should we check it out at night then?” The second one replied, their voices fading away as they moved farther away. The last time I had heard people talking about a place and I went there, my life tilted on its axis. Were the heavens trying to tell me something?I made my way to the said roof top, following the signs pasted on the wall.Indeed it was magnificent but also daring. The wind blew, scattering my hai

IVAN'S POV I sighed and ran my hands through my hair as the bathroom door closed behind Reign. Every tear that ran down her cheeks were like knives that rammed through my chest. It broke me.My phone rang and I picked it immediately seeing what it was. “Christian, what is it?”“I have a report on the men you told me to find out about. Can you come to the office?”“I can't do that right now. I'm at the hospital.” I glanced at Mel as I said that, the gentle rising and falling of her chest and the beeping of the machines reassured me.“Why? Are you sick? Is Reign sick?” “Not me or her. Melanie was involved in an accident.” I told him. The silence that followed was long and hard and I could hear Christian's heavy breathing over the phone.“I will come over,” Christian announced and ended the call before I could reply. I slipped my phone in my pocket and walked closer to Mel. It was indeed heartbreaking to see her like that. Mel was a ray of sunshine. We have been friends for over seve

REIGN'S POV My feet wobbled as I struggled to pull the door of my side of the car open. My fingers were trembling and couldn't grasp the handle tight. I looked up when Ivan pulled my hands away and pulled it open for me.I was not alone. Ivan was with me.My leg bounced throughout the ride, even placing my hand on it couldn't stop it. I bit into my nails as my thoughts ran haywire, making me even more distressed than I was.How bad was the accident? Was it really serious? I clasped my hand tight and prayed. Mel had to be okay. What would I do without her?“Calm down, Reign. Everything will be fine,” Ivan said, placing his hands over mine. He looked rather calm as he drove but I was sure he was just as distressed as I was.I jumped out of the car as soon as we got to the hospital. I had no idea I could run that fast until that day. Mel needed me.“Please, I'm looking for Melanie Anderson. She was involved in an accident,” I said to the nurse at the reception. She looked through her s

REIGN'S POV “Reign.”They were watching me. Regardless of where I hid, they could see me. They had eyes and ears everywhere, I would never be able to escape from them. What if they were more psychotic than I thought? What if they hurt me just to get to Ivan?“Reign?”What if they hurt Ivan? Were they watching right now too? Should I just tell Ivan the truth? How were they able to see us though? Did they set up a camera somewhere? Does that mean there was a spy in this house? Or worse, the person sending the threats?“Reign!”“Huh?” I blinked repeatedly as Ivan’s worried face appeared in front of my eyes. I looked down at the still full plate in front of me. Right, I had forgotten I was having dinner with Ivan.“Is everything okay? You zoned out for the past ten minutes and you haven't even tasted the food.” He looked between my eyes like the answers were there.I cleared my throat and grabbed my spoon. “Not at all, everything is fine.” To show him that, I ate a spoonful of fried rice

  • Love in the Headlines    Normalcy

REIGN'S POV My hands clenched on my lap as his words ran around in my head. It made no sense. What were the chances that the father I had no idea about since I was born would suddenly show up in my life?“Perhaps you are mistaken,” I laughed but even I could hear the trembling underneath. “Nothing is proven yet but I'm half certain that the sender is your father,” Ivan insisted.“How do you even know that? We have never discussed my personal affairs. How do you know that I have never met my dad?” My eyes narrowed at him.“I have known all along. I did a background check on you after you published that write-up about me.” He looked reluctant as he said that.“I don't like the sound of that,” I mused. “That means you know everything about me, right? Even things I thought no one else knew?”“I'm not too sure. How else did you think I found out about your birthday?”“Oh,” I muttered as realization dawned on me. I didn't even question it back then when he wished me. It just reflexively r
