RONALD

I walked toward Jeffrey’s office, expecting the usual awkward tension we had both gotten used to performing in front of others. But as I approached, the first thing I noticed was that his secretary, Ruby, wasn’t at her desk, which was odd.

She was never late. And never gone from her post without a reason. And then I got to the door.

And saw exactly why.

She was inside, bent slightly over beside him as they looked at something on his tablet together. Her hair fell over her face and she stood a little too close to him, and her voice was low, murmuring something I couldn’t make out.

Jeffrey laughed. Then, he playfully tapped her forehead with the stylus like they were in on some private joke.

I felt my jaw clench hard.

When the hell did they get so close?

I coughed loudly, just to make sure they knew I was there.

The way she jerked upright was immediate. She looked guilty.

“Good morning Mr. Ronald,” she said quickly, smoothing her skirt like that would make her look bett

THIRD PERSON POV Jeffrey stood in front of Kyla’s apartment door. The lock clicked softly, and the door creaked open a second after he rang. Kyla stood there in a black tube top and tailored suit pants, clearly in the middle of getting dressed for the day. Her hair was pinned back loosely, eyes sharp as they scanned his expectant face. Jeffrey didn’t say a word. He stepped inside, brushing past her gently, and walked straight to the couch. He sat, leaned back, and stared quietly at her back as she shut the door behind her. “You can keep getting ready,” he said, voice low. “I wouldn’t want to interrupt.” Kyla glanced at him over her shoulder, her mouth twitching slightly like she almost smiled. “Don’t worry about it,” she said calmly. “What’s wrong?” Jeffrey looked at her for a moment, then finally spoke. “A few days ago, I got a call. They said you were taken.” His tone was blunt. “What was that about? Where were you?” Kyla paused, her hand resting on the back of a chair. For a

THIRD PERSON POV Silver stood on the walkway of the large garden with Collins, dressed in a soft, elegant white gown that brushed the tiles with each step. Her eyes were fixed ahead, but she wasn't seeing anything, even though the view was peaceful with the branches of trees swaying lightly in the breeze, birds chirping above, and the faint scent of jasmine clinging to the air.Collins approached quietly. “Hello, Silver. You look stressed.”She didn’t look at him. “No, I don’t.” She replied gently He stepped beside her, his hands slipping into his pockets as they both watched two squirrels dart down a tree trunk, circle one another, then race back up into the branches.“Yes, you look beautiful as always Silver. But you always come here when you’re stressed,” he said, his voice becoming soft. “What’s wrong?”Silver took a deep breath, inhaling the cool air like it could ground her. Then her voice, quiet but sharp, cut through the silence. “You said they were dead. Their car was fou

THIRD PERSON POV Kyla had just finished her bath, her skin still dewy as she slipped into her silk evening robe. The fabric clung to her gently as she padded across the living room barefoot. She had barely settled when the doorbell rang. She paused.Only one person rang that way. With a slow breath, she approached the door and opened it.Connor stood there, tall, tense, and tired in his expression. His eyes scanned her quickly, pausing on the soft robe, the dampness in her hair. His jaw clenched slightly, but his tone stayed even.“Can I come in?”Kyla didn’t answer right away. Her hand rested on the doorframe, hesitant. But then she stepped aside, letting him in without a word. The silence stretched between them as Connor entered, his presence filling the space like a gentle storm waiting to break. He turned to face her.“Where on earth have you been?” he asked, frustration seeping through his words. “You’ve been ignoring all my texts, my calls… I came here. I went to the office. Yo

THIRD PERSON POV Jeffrey held up the document in his hand, his expression shifted from shock to something casual. “I needed answers,” he said calmly. “Answers for why you suddenly wanted nothing to do with me.”Ronald froze at the words, his jaw tightening. The weight of his mistake landed hard in his chest. He had lashed out, blamed Jeffrey, pushed him away without offering a single chance for explanation. He should have known better. He took a step forward, reaching for the paper, but Jeffrey pulled it back, keeping it just out of reach. Ronald’s brows drew together. “You shouldn’t be going through my things,” he said, voice low with irritation.Jeffrey tilted his head to the side, his eyes sharp despite the casual tone. “Oh, so now it’s your things and my things?” he asked. The question hung in the air like a knife. He sounded calm, even indifferent, but Ronald could hear it. The sting buried in every word. He was hurt.Jeffrey didn’t wait for any response. “You shut me out becau

THIRD PERSON POV Ronald sat stiffly in the backseat of the car, staring out the window but not really seeing anything. His father’s ridiculous announcement still echoed in his head. A second son, like it was just a casual transaction that occured. He scoffed under his breath and rubbed a hand across his jaw.His phone vibrated on the seat beside him. He glanced at the screen, and froze.Kyla.He stared at the name for a long second, with an unreadable expression. Her timing was always just exquisite. Wasn't she supposed to be missing? His thumb hovered for a bit, then he finally answered.“Kyla,” he said flatly. Her voice came through immediately. It was tight, breathless, slightly panicked. “Ronald, we need to see. I have to talk to you.”He narrowed his eyes. “Why? So you can drive the dagger deeper? Or twist it this time?”“No. No… it’s not like that,” she said quickly. “Please. I’ll explain everything when we meet. I need your help.”That caught him off guard. His help? What now

THIRD PERSON POVKyla walked into Scar’s office and stood silently in front of his desk with her arms crossed. Her clothes were rumpled and stained from the act to look like she had barely survived. Scar looked up from the file he was reading, and for a moment, genuine shock flickered across his face. But it vanished quickly, replaced by a cold fury.“Kyla. Where the hell have you been?” he snapped, rising halfway from his seat. Then, catching himself, he sank back down and exhaled slowly. His voice was low and measured. “Do you have the stamp?”Kyla blinked at him. “Wow,” she said flatly. “Not even a ‘are you okay’? Or ‘glad you’re not dead’?”Scar raised a brow. “Do you have the stamp, Kyla?”She shook her head. “No.”The sound of Scar’s palm slamming against the table cracked through the room.“What do you mean no?” he barked. “Where the fuck have you been then?”Kyla inhaled, slow and heavily. “That’s what I am trying to tell you. I got kidnapped.”Scar’s eyes narrowed but he did
