Mia's POV

I sat quietly, smiling sheepishly as I watched my team members celebrate our win with such jubilation...

The joy in their hearts and the smiles on their faces felt immeasurable. I wished I could feel the same, but the burden in my heart was a roadblock to this moment of bliss.

“Hey everyone, let’s raise our glasses and make a toast to the woman who made this possible. Cheers to Mia Lud, who brought us this win!” a man called out, raising his glass.

They all lifted theirs in unison.

“A toast to Mia Lud, to success, to more wins!” Emily echoed, and everyone chanted, “Cheers!” as their glasses clinked joyfully in the air.

I was overwhelmed. I’ve had a tough life—who would’ve thought this is how I’d have my first taste of liquor? I started drinking and couldn’t stop. The sensation it gave me made me feel alive. I laughed as a tear slid down my cheek at the silliest jokes... we were all, quite literally, drunk.

We danced to the music and ate to our fill. Emily, who had her fair s

  • The mysterious Billionaire's Wife; a lost heiress.   105: Cracks Forming

( Mia POV)Robert was slipping away. Not physically. He still came home every night. Still slept beside me. Still kissed me goodbye in the mornings before heading to JR Investment. But emotionally, he was somewhere else. Somewhere I couldn't reach. It started small. Subtle enough that I almost missed it.A phone call he took in another room, his voice low and tense through the closed door. A meeting he left abruptly, muttering something about an emergency. Papers he quickly shuffled out of sight when I entered his study.Small things. Explainable things.Except they kept happening."Is everything okay?" I asked one evening over dinner. Nel was at a friend's house for a sleepover, giving us rare privacy. "You seem distracted.""Just work stuff." Robert pushed food around his plate without eating. "The Oscar situation is getting complicated.""How complicated?""I don't want to burden you with it.""Robert, we're supposed to be partners. Your burdens are my burdens.""I know." He reache

  • The mysterious Billionaire's Wife; a lost heiress.   104: Impossible Position

(Robert POV)Oscar Wealth's lawyer called on Monday morning.I was in my office at JR Investment, reviewing financial statements and trying to figure out how to produce ten billion dollars from thin air, when my phone rang."Mr. Lud? This is Marcus Vincent, representing Oscar Wealth. I'm calling to inform you that if we don't receive payment or a satisfactory resolution by Friday, we'll be moving forward with legal action.""What kind of legal action?""Breach of contract. We'll be seeking full damages, which include the ten billion dollar buyout plus interest and legal fees. We'll also be filing complaints with the SEC regarding potential stock manipulation and insider trading related to your marriage to Miss Cops."My blood ran cold. "That's absurd. There was no manipulation.""That's for the courts to decide. We have evidence suggesting your marriage was designed to facilitate Miss Cops's acquisition of Richard Cops's assets. Assets that rightfully should have been frozen pending i

  • The mysterious Billionaire's Wife; a lost heiress.   103: The seduction Begins

(Mia POV)Sophia Wealth was everywhere. It started three days after Robert's confrontation with James. Three days of tense silence where Robert barely spoke about what his father had said, only that we needed to find ten billion dollars or face consequences neither of us wanted to discuss.Three days of watching my husband retreat into himself, his expression growing more haunted by the hour. And then Sophia appeared. The first time was at a charity gala James insisted we attend. Some fundraiser for children's hospitals that the Lud family had sponsored for decades. Robert warned me it would be uncomfortable, that Oscar and Sophia would likely be there. He hadn't warned me about how beautiful she was.Sophia Wealth looked like she'd stepped out of a magazine. Long blonde hair that caught the light perfectly. A silver gown that probably cost more than most people's cars. Skin like porcelain, eyes like sapphires, a smile that could sell diamonds. She was everything I wasn't. Polished. R

  • The mysterious Billionaire's Wife; a lost heiress.   102: Old Debts

(Robert POV)James summoned me to his office the next morning. Not asked. Not requested. Summoned. Like I was still a child who needed disciplining instead of a grown man with a wife and responsibilities. The text had been brief. *My office. 9 AM. Don't be late.*I'd left Mia sleeping, her face peaceful in the early light. She'd tossed and turned most of the night, nightmares about Oscar and Sophia and legal battles chasing her through sleep.I hadn't slept at all. Just watched her and tried to figure out how to fix this mess.James's office at JR Investment was exactly as I remembered. Massive mahogany desk. Leather chairs that cost more than most cars. Floor to ceiling windows overlooking the city like a king surveying his kingdom. He sat behind the desk, his expression carved from stone."Sit," he said without preamble.I sat."I've been reviewing the contract with Oscar Wealth," James began, sliding papers across the desk. "It's ironclad. Legally binding. Enforceable in any court.

  • The mysterious Billionaire's Wife; a lost heiress.   101: New Threats

( Mia POV)The board meeting went better than expected. Not perfect. Several older members clearly resented taking orders from a twenty-year-old woman, no matter how many billions she controlled. But they listened. Took notes. Didn't openly challenge my authority.Progress.I announced the name change. Cops Industries would become Anita Trade and Investment, effective immediately. A few faces tightened at the news, but no one argued. Not when I controlled fifty-one percent of the votes.By the time I left, I felt almost confident. Like maybe, just maybe, I could actually do this. The car ride home should have been triumphant. Instead, anxiety coiled in my stomach like a living thing.Something felt wrong.Robert's text from earlier had been brief. *Need to talk. Important.*Important could mean anything. Board issues at JR Investment. Problems with the merger James had mentioned. Normal business complications. But my instincts screamed otherwise.I found him in the study, staring at p

  • The mysterious Billionaire's Wife; a lost heiress.   100: The Heiress

(Robert POV)The board meeting at JR Investment felt strange.Normal, but wrong. Like returning to a house after a long vacation and finding everything slightly out of place.James sat at the head of the table where he'd always sat. Mick cracked inappropriate jokes about my shoulder. Victoria took notes with her usual efficiency. But everything had changed.I'd killed a man. Nearly died myself. Married the woman I loved not once but twice, contract and choice blending until I couldn't tell where one ended and the other began. And Mia was home discovering she controlled fifty billion dollars.Fifty billion. The number was incomprehensible. Made my family's wealth look like pocket change."Robert?" James's voice cut through my thoughts. "Your opinion on the merger?""Sorry, what?""The merger. With Chen Industries. We've been discussing it for twenty minutes."I glanced at the papers in front of me. Hadn't read a word. "I'll need to review the terms more carefully before deciding."Jame
