~Mia’s POV~

I woke up early the next day with a smile and a light heart, remembering how Robert had treated me to dinner the night before.

Just then, the door clicked open and the family doctor walked in—this time, it was him in person, not a nurse.

“Good morning, Doc,” I said, beaming.

“Good morning, Mrs. Mia. You're up earlier than I expected. Do you feel any dizziness?” he asked as he began to examine me.

“No. I feel strong enough to run a hundred laps.”

“That’s a good vibe, Mia,” he said with a warm smile.

The doctor had just finished removing my IV line when Robert entered.

“Welcome, sir,” the doctor greeted.

“She’s done taking her IV?” Robert asked.

“Yes sir. She’s stable now. She’ll still need care, but the worst is over.”

“That’s a relief. Thank you, Doctor,” Robert replied, though his face wasn’t bright.

“I’ll take my leave,” the doctor said before exiting.

I looked up at Robert with soft eyes. His knuckles were dark, and he looked weary—like someone who hadn’t slept.

~Robert POV~“What do you mean?” I asked as I sat in the Lamborghini beside James.“Robert, you’re the only heir to the JR company. It’s only right for you to marry a woman who befits your succession,” James said, but his words only provoked me.“Why talk about marrying another woman and still claim you need Mia? Is she nothing but a yardstick for revenge against Richard?” I said, clearly annoyed.“No! She’s a woman whose background I find suspicious. Her father isn’t her real dad, and her mother abandoned her for over eighteen years. Is that the kind of woman you want to stay married to?”I was silent. I didn’t know what to say. I couldn’t deny the fact that Mia’s background baffled me too.“Yet, I married her because I have feelings for her, not because of her background,” I replied defensively. James glared at me—silent, yet persistent.I knew who he was. He wouldn’t drop this issue easily. And if I dared leave Mia alone, she would be tossed around like a rag—used as bait between t

~MIA POV~I sat next to Robert quietly as we drove home in his sleek Rolex modern SUV. I wished we could have stayed longer at the villa, but I had to resume work. Robert had been unusually quiet throughout the drive. I wondered what was on his mind—or perhaps why he wasn’t his usual chatty self.Even his silence felt out of place for someone like him."Finally, we’re home. I hope we visit the villa again someday," I said, trying to lift the mood. But Robert didn’t respond."Get down," was all he said next, and I stood stunned.I stepped out of the car, expecting he’d help me with my small bag, but instead, he walked away, sending a maid to retrieve it.Yeah… back to the JR mansion. Back to a life of stiffness and Robert’s awkward silence. As I walked into the mansion, I was greeted by a beautiful breakfast setting."Now I see why he’s acting like this," I whispered to myself. We were having a family breakfast. The entire family would be present—including Victoria. I was already dress

~Robert’s POV~I paused, my heart racing with disbelief at what I’d just heard. I glanced at Mick, and I could tell he was just as curious and alarmed.“What did you say?” I asked, needing confirmation.“I have your mother's diary,” Victoria repeated.I scoffed, forcing back the tears that threatened to fall. I didn’t want to believe her. Could it really be true?“I’ll be on my way,” I said and hung up the call. I stood, ready to leave, but Mick held me back.“You have to be careful, man. Victoria isn’t someone to trust when it comes to revenge,” Mick warned sincerely.“I know. But I have to get to the bottom of this,” I replied and walked out.I drove at full speed toward the mansion. It was already past 10 p.m., and I’d been away from Mia for hours. I didn’t want her waking up alone. There was a reason I hadn’t brought her to the mansion. Victoria was there. My father was there. The tension would’ve been unbearable for her. And what did home mean anymore? A place full of cold stares

  • The mysterious Billionaire's Wife; a lost heiress.   Chapter Twenty six: The Deal

~Robert’s POV~After a hilarious dinner that night, I helped Mia ease into bed, carefully tucking the sheets around her fragile frame. As she lay quietly, I could still see exhaustion clinging to her like dew on morning grass. The trauma from recent events had shaken her so much we had to sedate her with drugs.I sat beside her bed, and she glanced up at me with a smile.“C’mon, I'm fine,” she said, forcing a smile.“Does it still hurt?” I asked, gently brushing my hand across the bandages on her arm.“A little,” she admitted with weary eyes.“I’m so sorry I left you that night… I’m sorry I didn’t rescue you sooner.”“It’s fine, Rob. It wasn’t your fault. There are just… bad people out there,” she said. Her innocence made my chest tighten. If only she knew Victoria was behind her own attack, using her as bait to get to Elizabeth.I smiled faintly and held her arm, gently stroking it as her tired eyes fluttered across my face, trying to fight the pull of the drugs.“Why don’t you close

  • The mysterious Billionaire's Wife; a lost heiress.   Chapter twenty-five: Recovery

~Mia’s POV~“Robert Lud has made a public statement regarding the escape of Mia Lud from the den of hoodlums. He has denied the rumours about the nature of their relationship with the Cops. According to him, those stories were false, and there is no feud between the Lud family and the police. He clarified that their dealings have been purely business-related…”I sat watching the news, listening to Robert’s calm voice as he addressed the public about my escape and return. If this had happened to someone else, I might’ve believed every word on the screen. But now I know—not all news is true.Robert had to redirect public attention away from me so I could recover in peace. But did I escape on my own? No. He had rescued me—risked everything and fled from the police, claiming he didn’t want them involved. Are there parts of Robert I still don’t know? Yes.His connections… his wealth… Everything about him remains a mystery.I stood up and walked slowly around the house, enjoying the serenit
