Kayla’s POV

The rain had stopped, but the silence that followed was worse. The highway stretched endlessly before us, a thin ribbon of gray under the dying night. My heart pounded as I stared at the black phone in Liam’s hand. The last thing I’d heard still echoed in my mind.

Hello again, Kayla.

Helen’s voice. Smooth. Confident. Undeniably real.

I had watched her bleed out in the forest. I had seen her eyes go still. But somehow, she was back. Or she had never really left.

Liam turned the phone over in his hand, his knuckles white. “This isn’t possible.”

“Then make it make sense,” I said, my voice trembling. “Because she was dead. I saw it. I felt it.”

He didn’t answer right away. He just kept staring at the phone, lost in thought. “If The Warden was behind her, he could have had her revived. Or cloned. Or…” His voice dropped. “Replaced.”

I shivered. “Replaced?”

He looked at me, his expression unreadable. “If he had access to Helen’s research, then he’s been experimenting with identit

  • Love me again, Dear Ex wife!   Chapter 132

Kayla’s POVThe cabin walls seemed to breathe with me, each inhale and exhale echoing faintly in the still air. The storm outside had dulled to a slow drizzle, yet inside, everything was louder—my heartbeat, my thoughts, the memory of Damien’s hands trembling against my skin when he said he’d never let me go again.I wanted to believe him. I wanted to drown in the warmth he offered. But every time his name left my lips, the whisper in my head stirred, soft and venomous. He’s not who you think he is.The voice had returned last night, curling around my thoughts like smoke. I tried to ignore it, tried to focus on the way Damien’s heartbeat steadied me when I fell asleep against his chest. But the whisper grew louder, sharper, more familiar. And now, as I stood by the window, watching the fog twist over the trees, I couldn’t silence it anymore.“You’re shaking again,” Damien said softly behind me. His reflection appeared in the window, his eyes dark with concern. “What’s wrong?”I turned

  • Love me again, Dear Ex wife!   Chapter 131

Kayla’s POVThe rain began that night. It came softly at first, the kind that barely touched the skin—gentle, cleansing, deceptive. But it didn’t stop. Hours passed, and the sky opened wider, drowning the forest in silver sheets.Damien and I had found an old cabin half buried beneath vines and time. It wasn’t much, but it was shelter. He’d built a fire, its glow flickering across his tired face. The sound of rain filled the silence between us, rhythmic and haunting.I sat by the window, watching water streak down the glass. My reflection stared back at me—pale, hollow-eyed, alive but not whole.“You’re quiet,” Damien said behind me. His voice was low, cautious, like he was afraid one wrong word would shatter me.I turned slightly. “I don’t know what to say anymore.”He crossed the room, kneeling beside me. “Then don’t say anything.”His hand found mine, his fingers warm against my cold skin. For a while, we just sat like that, two broken pieces trying to fit together. The fire crackl

  • Love me again, Dear Ex wife!   Chapter 129

Kayla’s POVLight. Endless and blinding. It wrapped around me like a blanket made of heat and silence, burning but tender. For a long time, I didn’t know if I was alive or dreaming. There was no sound, no air, no sense of up or down. Just that warmth, pulsing through me like a heartbeat. Then, faintly, a whisper broke through the light.Wake up, Kayla. My eyelids fluttered. The light dimmed. The world began to take shape—soft blue skies, grass swaying in slow motion, and the faint shimmer of water nearby. It looked too perfect, too still, like a painting that had come to life. And standing in the middle of it was Ethan. He looked just as I remembered—dark hair, sharp eyes, a calm smile that had always been equal parts comfort and danger. But now, his eyes glowed faintly. Not human anymore. Not entirely.“I told you we’d see each other again,” he said softly. My body trembled, torn between relief and rage. “Where am I?”“In between,” he said. “Your mind, your heart, your power—it all l

  • Love me again, Dear Ex wife!   Chapter 128

Kayla’s POVThe dawn came too quickly. Pale light cut through the trees, brushing across the wreckage of the night before, but it brought no peace. The world felt colder now, emptier. Even the air tasted strange—like iron and smoke.I sat by the edge of the clearing, my fingers buried in the dirt. The earth was still trembling faintly, pulsing with something I couldn’t see but could feel deep inside me. It was faint, rhythmic, like a second heartbeat—his heartbeat.Damien and Liam were talking a few feet away. Their voices were low but sharp, every word laced with tension. I couldn’t make out what they were saying, but I didn’t need to. I could feel their fear. And worse, I could feel their pity.I didn’t want pity. I wanted control. But control was slipping further away.Every time I blinked, I saw flickers of him—Ethan—his silhouette shifting in the periphery of my vision, his voice threading through my thoughts like silk. You can feel it, can’t you? The power. The way it moves unde

  • Love me again, Dear Ex wife!   Chapter 127

Kayla’s POVThe forest was quiet. Too quiet. The silence pressed against my ears until it almost hummed. The wind that had once carried the chaos of battle was gone now, replaced by an eerie stillness. The faint glow beneath my skin hadn’t faded. Every flicker of light that pulsed through my veins reminded me that I wasn’t entirely myself anymore.Damien’s hand trembled as he reached for me. “Kayla… look at me.”I lifted my gaze to him. His face was pale, his eyes dark with exhaustion, but it was the fear I saw there that broke me. He was terrified. Not of Ethan, not of what had just happened, but of me.“I can’t control it,” I whispered, tears burning at the edges of my vision. “He’s inside me, Damien. I can feel him. Every time I breathe, he’s there.”Damien shook his head fiercely. “Then don’t let him take you. We’ll find a way to stop this.”He cupped my face, his touch steady and desperate. For a moment, I almost believed him. The warmth of his palms spread through me, grounding
