Darian Woods
"Royal Harmony hotels," I told the Driver who maneuvered his way around the busy road to avoid getting caught up in traffic. Lately, I moved around the City of Castor incognito, with security forces trailing me in disguise. I did it that way to not bring any attention to myself and still make the enemy think I was out to the open while I was being watched secretly.Driving into Royal Harmony hotels, I watched the security positioned at the entrance of the hotel hurriedly opening the gates and showing my driver the restricted parking lot area for him to park. This was one of the perks of being rich, even in my incognito mode, I was still receiving special treatments, I smirked thinking about it.Royal Harmony hotels, a large corporation that specialized mainly on Accommodations, bar, and catering services. I did not own the brand, I just had shares as much as 40% of the total company's shares in my name.Immediately I made my entrance into Royal Harmony hotels, every one I came across, workers precisely had to pause and bow as I walked past them. It was no rule I made, it just happened out of respect for me. I was certain they were fortunate enough to get to see the top businessman in the Country by just walking close to me and they did not get such luck every day.Interestingly, I heard there was some news about me saying, I exuded an aura that was hard to stand. A kind of domineering aura that carried so much authority making my presence known even without an introduction. Whatever was rumored was the truth as I had seen Moriah, my divorced wife, tremble on several occasions I stood close to her.Shaking off the thoughts,"What table was reserved for the meeting?" I asked Jack who quickly swiped open his phone and checked the list which held my appointments for each week, their time, and reservations."The VIP room 6 was reserved for this meeting.""Any other one after this?" I inquired trying to clear off events from my head."There's no other one as this is the last for the day. The meeting that was scheduled with the Governor's son has been moved to two days from now at 10:00 am," I tilted my head listening to him. When he was done reading out my schedule, we walked away from there with one of the attendants taking us to the VIP room reserved for the meeting."President Darian Woods" Mr. Humphrey stood up, trying to show his respect with a slight bow."Acting as a staunch loyalist for your own gains" I scoffed inwardly.I nodded my head in response and took a seat opposite him. Jack sat by my side and softly told me that the documents concerning the meeting were already saved to the files on my phone."I believe you have gone through the contract, Mr. Humphrey. Do you have any issue with it?" I stated, my deep husky voice sounding like it was commanding."President Woods, I spoke to your personal assistant here that...," I watched Mr. Humphrey falter."I am not asking you about what you discussed with my assistant, I asked a simple question," I stated cutting him shut gruffly."That's what I'm saying, the issue I had, I told your personal assistant...," I stared at him sternly as he still wasn't getting the question. The look I gave him made his voice trail off and he shivered out of fright. Indeed people had real issues when it came to understanding things, I rolled my eyes at his actions and wondered if that was the man I actually wanted to do business with. The meeting with Mr. Humphrey was for a franchise he wanted with DARS Corporation. He wanted to register under the brand to start a Fashion Design Company which I was okay with. I made Jack and my Lawyer draft out the agreements for the contract and with what I had seen, it was okay, I just didn't get his point now. "Mr. Humphrey, I'm waiting," I said tilting my wrist to check the time as I had no plans to spend the whole day on the meeting with Mr. Humphrey."The number 5 of the contract, I'm not totally okay with it," Mr. Humphrey blurted out."And what are you not okay with?" I questioned with my eyebrows arched."The part where you said you will get 30% of the total revenue. I'm afraid if we do it that way, Sir, I might run at a loss. I was thinking if it can be reduced to a 20% for you. Then It will just be perfect as I will comfortable allot the revenue to you once it's generated."I was straight-faced as I did my calculations internally, trying to check the risks and the gains. I glared at Jack trying to know if he had a better idea before he whispered something to my ear.Giving it a deep thought, I called out,"Mr. Humphrey...," I started before I was cut short abruptly."Sir, please the cocktail you requested earlier," a waiter interrupted my speech making me glare daggers at her,"I'm sorry sir," She stuttered while her lips shook in trepidation. I was going to shout at her for being so insensitive to interrupt before I heard Jack say,"You may go now."Jack explained on the Waiter's behalf, that he had requested the drink for the table and it was just not her luck that the timing to deliver was a wrong one. I decided to ignore that particular behavior as I did not want to create a scene. But I was definitely going to talk to her boss, so she gets queried."As I was saying before we got interrupted by a nobody, Mr. Humphrey, the least I can go is a 25% and I really can't go beyond that," I poured out the idea which Jack had whispered to me, "using my brand is a respect to your Fashion Design company which will naturally give you a larger market and people will expect quality from you. I know my resources will not be involved in your establishment, but the integrity of my brand is at stake. So, I definitely can not go beyond a 25% profit allotment", I said with firm persistence like the speech was already rehearsed in my brain."You can think about the contract again, whatever you decide, you know how to contact me," I said forcing a smile as I stood up to leave. I didn't bother about the bills because as a major Shareholder and a Black gold card holder, whatever bills I incurred in any of the hotel's branches and subsidiaries were on the house. Topping the business world for a long time, I had gotten used to issues like this, so I was the least disturbed as I knew he, Mr. Humphrey was going to agree with the changes I made.********Arriving at the office, I swiftly rushed to the penthouse to pick up a document I needed to work on, Jack followed behind. While I was searching for the documents, notifications came running into my phone and I paused to tap on it, looking closely it was comments from a tag of my relocation, I scrolled down with my eyes before it caught something I had not thought of,"I heard his wife was once spotted in Carlton. Or is he moving over here because of her?" I read out to Jack's hearing. "Was Moriah really in Carlton?" I said inaudibly."Jack put a call to Charles and tell him to check Carlton's Database," I commanded with furrows formed on my forehead."Okay," Jack responded, "what should he search for?""Moriah... Moriah Woods," I declared and my eyes darkened.I stood in front of the mirror with just a half cut on and condom pants, because I really loved the texture of the pant material on my skin, and wearing brassieres wasn't what I liked, So I had to substitute brassieres for half cuts and boob tapes. Besides, I rarely went out, as a result of it, using brassieres wasn't my issue again as I wore nothing under my shirts while at home. I went to my closet and picked up a tank top on a boyfriend jeans. After wearing it, I took a sweatshirt with a hood that lay dejectedly on a couch in my room and pulled out a low sneakers I saw on the rack then I put them on. I left my hair to fall backward, dangling up until my waist. Picking up a few pins, I pinned them on my hair to control the edges at the front, so it does not get ruffled by the wind. Moving towards the cupboard just beside my bed, I took my car keys and left for the kitchen to meet Jane who decided to spend the week at my place. "Adrian is sleeping, please watch him," I smiled gle
Darian WoodsLaying on my bed, empty thoughts filtered through my mind as I gazed out into the sky from the skylight rooftop, the stars twinkling and illuminating the big black canvas, mapping out a pattern. The uneasiness I felt faded as I sat up silhouetted in the shadows by the dull lights in the room, pondering on life."Why did I have to go to the same city she was in?" I uttered in my reverie. I did not appreciate that I will have to stay in a city where I have to see Moriah. I had no issues with her, I just hated the way she made me feel like the same man my father was.Picking up my phone, I dialed Jack's number, "Hello, is anything wrong?" Jack questioned."I need you to find any available lady I can pass the time with," I said to Jack over the phone."What kind of lady do you want?" he inquired."Just anything to pass the time with", I said before hanging up, moving to the bathroom to dip myself in a hot tub. I had to wash away the thoughts of Moriah that were building ins
Darian WoodsThe sun had not yet risen as I hurriedly made my way downstairs. Jack had gotten a call from the security at the headquarters that they suspect an infiltration as the CCTV cameras and database connections in the building just went down all of a sudden. It was a few minutes past 4 am, and they were trying to access the company's database already, indeed my enemy was serious and it seemed as though the danger was lurking around. "What do we do, Darian?" Jack said to me as he caught up with me in the sitting room. "I don't know for now. Let's go there," I replied making my way outside."Which progress has been made", I asked him as we stepped into the car. The driver had already been alerted and he swiftly rolled the car over to us. "Every hand in the ICT dept is on deck and they're trying to break the barrier that has been created. With what the security said, no one had successfully entered inside as they have all been on alert, but there's a high chance that they won't
Darian Woods"He had been here," I whispered to myself again. As much as I tried running and going away from wherever didn't feel safe, a part of me still came searching after me. My eyebrows furrowed as I quickly scanned the environment, checking to see if he was still around or if there was another trace of him somewhere.Walking closer to the table, I picked up the red pearl brooch pin antique that had been placed on my table. "Was it me just overthinking things?" I spoke out, my voice sounding like a whisper. If I was certain, that was his signature mark as he had always loved brooch pin antiques, and pearl turned out to be his favorite jewel.Still not certain if it was him, as I did not want to conclude, I raised the brooch pin to my nose, and the smoldering scent of woody oud mixed with the scent of lavender oil wafted through my nose.Even if anything could fail me, the scent was enough proof. It was his usual fragrance, with the same type of brooch pins he wore and it was
Raising Adrian as a single mother was not totally my problem as I was financially stable and could fall back on my family who was in the middle rank in society, though I chose to not depend on them. My only fear every day was him asking for his father and the sadness he may develop if I can't show him someone as a Father figure. I picked up the remote, and switched the television over to the entertainment channel I enjoyed watching, with my hands holding on to the toasted bread, I picked from a plate.Biting on it, I giggled continuously, watching everything in front of me. It was a family reality show, with the Dad, Mom, and her triplets that intentionally disturbed her like they were devils."I'm thick skin for you, your tricks won't work," the woman from the reality show yelled out frustratedly, making me smile even further.Imagining that a time will come when Adrian will be so grown up, and causing me to raise my voice to him, freaked me out. Finally, he was in school, and I had
Darian WoodsOne year later..."You are saying that there is still no news about Brandon?" I asked Jack, with my brows raised in inquiry."There's still nothing, President Darian," he said, nodding his head to me.I did not even know if I was going to yell at him, or just bring in new sets of the workforce as I no longer understood anything that happened anymore concerning the office, and their capability to bring down my enemy, Brandon."And Gazel? You are still in touch with him?" "Yes, President Darian. It seems Brandon kept the evidence in a place so secure, that it feels difficult to access. Also, we don't know if he has any duplicates, as it seems like he is well prepared for this fight," Jack stated.I almost screamed out, "cut the crap" to him, but I decided to hold it in, as it was not worth it, shouting at Jack. I needed to vent my anger somewhere, just anywhere else, as I have never felt so frustrated at a moment. My hands went up to the corners of my ears, rubbing slowly
Swiftly moving through the steps at the first wing of Peng Technology, as I had to meet with my boss since I was running late, my breathing increased rapidly. The elevator of the first wing area in the office building just suddenly stopped working and I had to use the stairs. It turned out that on this particular day, I got to work late and still had to fix up everything from the previous day's work that was carried into the new day. Coming late only worsened things as the company had a meeting with some other company which I wasn't sure of the name since I was not the one in charge of handling those particular documents, by 2 pm. I had to finish the previous day's work and helped tidy the conference hall too. My boss was used to keeping things in order, I just did not understand why he specifically requested that I help arrange everything, and I could only wonder who the people were that had the meeting with Peng Technology, as my boss paid much respect to them from his actions."
"Hello, Miss Bianca," I greeted out loud at a staff that works at the office. I was supposed to work alongside Bianca to fix the conference room for the big meeting my boss talked about.Bianca was the assistant secretary to the CEO, so she worked under me. She began to work at the office about three years back, and I also thought that she will be promoted to the position of a secretary while I was away. For some reason, the boss did not get along with her, even though he kept her as a staff. Before my relocation away from Carlton, she had this bitchy attitude, and always wanted to get on my toes. It just seemed like she knew better than that since my return because her attitude had changed for good, even though it felt like a pretense to me.Bianca hurried over to where I was, spreading her arms for a warm embrace, which got me squeezing myself into her warmth. She was just walking into the conference room to meet me. I had finished setting up the laptops and projectors and was onl
