Taking her

Chapter 01: Taking her

*Melissa's POV*

Two weeks later

It had been two weeks since I lost my mother to the cold hands of death. I had lost the will to live and had only tried to be strong for my dad's sake.

He hadn't been coping much at all. Infact, all he had been doing these days was drink and gamble. He said the only way to raise such amount that we owed Mr. Brown was through gambling, and betting. But I knew that was just him trying to avoid the reality.

It was obvious he missed my mom so much, I did too. He had even grown thinner and less active.

He had even quit his job, and I felt that at this rate, we might go live in the street soon. I had been searching for a new job for some days now but the world's luck seemed to be against me. Everything had just been so difficult and cruel towards us. What the fuck did we even do go deserve all this?

A drop of tear fell on my arm, and then on the book I was reading and that was when I realized I was crying. I didn't bother cleaning it and just continued staring aloofly at the book. But that activity was soon cut short when two black Jeeps drove roughly into the company, causing the tyres to screech.

My heart immediately thundered against my chest, knowing who it was and why he had come. I quickly got up from where I was sitting and began to walk inside at a really fast pace. I hoped deeply that they hadn't noticed me as I was in the corner of the house.

I had only taken a few steps when I heard a voice that sent shivers down my spine.

"Hey! Young lady," the person called with a deep domineering voice, and I turned to see a tall scary guy who I assumed to be one of Mr. Brown's guard advancing towards me.

Without waiting for my brain to analyze anything, I took to my heels. I ran as fast as I could towards the entrance of our house and in no time, I was close as I was a fast runner.

The guard seemed to be a really good runner too because he was almost catching up. I ran into the living room and pushed the door closed, before struggling to lock it with the key. I had almost succeeded before the guard got to the door. He pushed it with a manly strength and I fell backwards, hitting my butt hard on the floor.

I winced in pain as I tried to get up. The guard smiled wickedly at me before he forcefully pulled me up, end began to drag me outside. My heart pounded in my chest, and I tried to struggle but his grip was too strong.

"Let go of me!" I cried, panic filling my voice, but he just ignored me and kept walking. When we were fully outside, he released my hand and pushed me forward, making me stumble and almost fell.

"Keep moving," he ordered and I obeyed, my body slightly shaking. I wondered what Mr. Brown was going to do with me. I wished and hoped someone could just save me from him, but no one came. I guess life wasn't like the movies.

When we finally got to where he was standing, the guard pushed me down and I fell to my knees. I felt my skin tear and I could feel it began to bleed, but I couldn't pay attention to it.

"Where's your father, young woman?" Mr. Brown asked, his voice was low and icy. When I didn't answer, he bent down a little and grabbed, making me chin to look at him. "When I'm asking a question, you look at me and answer quickly! Understood?" He said with an even lower, but threatening voice.

I found myself shaking my head in agreement and slowly raising my head to meet his face, careful not to look directly in his eyes, but I couldn't. He then released my chin and a handkerchief was handed to him. He cleaned his hands before dipping them into his pant pockets.

'What was that for?' I asked my inner mind. What a man. My gaze then travelled back to his face and slightly across other parts of his body.

His look left me in awe for a moment. His face was chiseled and striking, and his deep, rich blue eyes seemed to be staring into my soul. He was wearing a black suit pant with a black long sleeve shirt that was folded and he had left two buttons undone, revealing his chest.

"I asked where's your father?" He screamed, and I cowered back in fear.

I'm... I'm afraid I don't know where my father is," I said, my voice shaking.

Immediately I said that, he grabbed me again and pulled me closer to himself, his gaze sharp and intense. I could feel my eyes almost popping out of its sockets as I stared back at him. I struggled to keep still.

Mere look at him and one would know he was a man with so much power and influence. But even though he looked like he had just walked out of a painting, the attitude and cold aura that was coming him made it obvious that he was just as cruel as he was beautiful.

He studied me for a moment, his expression unreadable.

"I find it hard to believe that you don't know where your father is," he finally said. "If you're lying to me, there will be consequences."

His voice was cold and threatening. I was not one to easily cower away in fear, but this man in front of me was nothing like I had ever seen. He made me want to scream and run in fright.

He released chin and turned to his men. I wondered what he still needed my dad for. I thought he had just come for me. Why then was he asking of me dad? I hope he didn't plan on hurting him, I thought still crying.

This was the first time I had been this close to him, and all I felt was hatred and anger.

"Go into that house and do a thorough search!" He ordered another of his guard who immediately ran towards our house.

The truth was my father had gone out since morning for his usual new routine, 'drink and gamble.' I hoped and prayed that he didn't return for now because I didn't know why Mr. Brown was so bent on searching for him. What if he wanted to beat him or even worse, kill him. I shivered at the the thought of losing my father as well.

The guard entered our house and began ransacking it. I could hear the sounds of glass shattering and plates breaking. I guess he was in the kitchen. I felt a wave of grief wash over me as I remembered my mom. If only she was here, only she hadn't fallen sick and died, all these wouldn't be happening.

Suddenly, the guard emerged from the house, looking disappointed.

"There's no one else inside, sir," he reported.

"Take her into the car," Mr. Brown ordered.
