Tristan

I groggily opened my eyes, disoriented and confused. Bright lights shielded my vision, leaving me blinded.

Slowly but surely, I adjusted blinking against the lights. As my gaze focused, the lights glare became more bearable, and I could make out what I was staring at— a very familiar ceiling.

The faint sound of beeps and the slight stinging smell of antiseptic was what confirmed my clearing thoughts. I was in the pack hospital.

A wave of panic washed over me as I tried to sit up, but a sharp pain shot through my body, forcing me to lie back down.

“Easy, Alpha Tristan.”

I whipped my head towards the source of the voice to find Dr Gerard approaching me, a relieved expression on his face as he entered.

“It's good that you're awake. It was concerning.”

Shifting my gaze from him I met the window. In the room, the hospital fluorescents illuminated the place. Outside however, it was moderately dark and only the dusk sunlight was visible.

I turned back to face him. He stood in s

PRESENT DAYTristanI was finally here.Heavy breaths left me as I looked upon the scene before me. I'd only recalled this hall from the mediation period so long ago and my hunch proved to be correct.Crowds of people were spread across the hall, looking on in shock. In each aisle however was a guard, blocking them. I didn't take too long to assess the situation. My chest tightened. After we arrived, driving nonstop to reach here on time, we infiltrated the pack quickly subduing the guards. There were barely any, no doubt thanks to the ‘celebration’ he believed would take place. I nearly sneered at the thought. My guards were taking care of the rest, the adrenaline spurring them on. There would be no reinforcements. That was why I came here on my own.Gritting my teeth at the stinging pain in my chest and arms, I moved forward, tightening my hands into fists as I crossed the aisle, completely on guard. From the distance I could still see the shock on Alistair's face, pale with his e

PAST: TWO DAYS AGOTristanThe border was a battlefield. It hadn't taken long to reach our destination. Adrenaline rushed through my veins as I witnessed the attack on my people. There were several in their wolf forms or half transformed on both sides while others were still in their human forms, claws and fangs bared. The only relief I had was the lack of presence of knives and guns. Human weapons were unhonorable in a fight between packs, although it wasn't fitting to call this ambush honour.Blood rushed through my ears and I slowly braced myself. Whipping to the guards if stationed“There's no civilians in sight?” I asked, just to make sure. He nodded and that was the affirmation I needed. A full grown group left me as I let my wolf partially takeover. Claws sprouted from my hands and the dull sensation of fangs growing as I went through the partial transformation. “Let's go. Maintain the formation as planned.” I grunted “Yes Alpha,” they chorused. In a flash, we were off, ra

Valerie My voice, hoarse and unused for the past three days, rang out loud in the hall for the first time. The entire place stilled with shock as I focused on him. The panic in his eyes was clear.“Val-” his words were blissfully cut off by my slap. The sound rang across the large hall. The pain in my palm was worth it. As he turned towards me, stunned into place, I finally revealed the sneer I'd held back. He'd really believed my ruse. He'd thought he had everything under my control, that my grief would somehow pull me to accept him. What a twisted mindset.I'd made sure it fell apart. He couldn't stop me now. Before he could move I slipped away, slipping towards the lower part of the podium before I collapsed into a practiced fragile bow, heaving with exaggerated desperation and panic “Elders, guests present, I beg of you to save me. He and his guards have kept me confined for days on end, forcing me through the mating ceremony.”Murmurs rang aloud and the pack members were visi

ValerieThree days passed in the blink of an eye. With every second, only a restless energy remained.Throughout I remained curled in place, constantly digging into the mate bond. I called out for him multiple times, eager for a response. There was none.So that was it then.I closed my eyes. On multiple occasions I had nearly let the despair overwhelm me. The urge to cry, scream and break everything in my path like I did on the first night of my captivity was far too tempting, but I didn't. I woke up, I ate as usual and watched as the maids came and went. I'd even offered them smiles as they arrived. If they were reporting to Alistair — which I had no doubt about— I could imagine that they would say that I was acting scarily normal. Complacent without a lick of anger or despair in my figures. Perhaps they would state that I had probably gotten numb over the events or maybe, just maybe that I had resigned myself to accepting my impending marriage.I hadn't met the mysterious ‘maid’ s

ValerieAfter she left I felt somewhat relieved. It was like a weight had fallen off me. Even amidst the worry, I wasn't alone, not anymore.Even though I didn't know who she was, I trusted her. The next set of maids came along and I didn't hold back to eat, albeit still selective. It wasn't compalency but patience. Noon turned to evening and soon the sun had gone down, leaving only the dark carpet of the night alongside the lights from the buildings I spotted from the window. I didn't bother turning in the lights. With nothing else but my thoughts I kept mulling over her words.I just needed to pull through. It might take a day or more, but I was ready for it.KNOCK.I tensed but relaxed just as quickly as the knick. Still, confusion threaded through my being. Based on my internal clock the last maid that came should have been the last for the day. Had I thought wrong? Before I could process it.The door opens and she tenses. It is no maid but Aliatair himself. I stiffened as he a
