The café buzzed with quiet conversations, the clinking of cups blending with the soft music drifting through the speakers.

Iris spotted him immediately at the corner table.

Dresses in a gray suit. Already sweating despite the air conditioner humming above him.

She walked over without hesitation and pulled out the chair opposite him.

A polite smile settled on her lips. Calm and composed. Exactly the way she'd been taught.

The memory of her first real training with Cassain flashed in her

Before she could answer, he was already walking toward the smoke. "Cassian!" she called after him. He didn't even glance back as she called or to him. Within seconds, he disappeared through the heavy steel doors alongside his men. The training hall fell eerily quiet. Only the shrill emergency alarm continued screaming overhead. Iris stared at the doorway. ‘Stay behind me.’ Cassain's voice sounded in her mind. She scoffed. “...Yeah, right." She got up from where she had fallen and hurried after them. The moment she stepped into the hallway, heat slammed into her face. Smoke crawled across the ceiling, turning the once elegant corridor into a haze of gray. Men rushed past her carrying rifles and medical kits. Some shouted orders that were incomprehensible. Others dragged the wounded toward the infirmary. "Move!" A guard shoved another out of the way as they sprinted past. The entire mansion had transformed into what looked like organized chaos. Another explosion thunder

She found herself in the training room an hour later. She hadn't planned to come; her feet had simply carried her along a path that had become second nature. Bella's words kept ringing in her head. what exactly did she mean? Sunlight poured through the high windows and pooled across the gray mats. Rows of weapons leaned against the walls, polished until they caught the light. Everything was exactly where it belonged. Including her. She walked to the center of the mat and stood very still, letting her eyes travel the room. This was where it had started — the first day Cassian had dragged her here. She remembered the bruises, the pain, the way she'd hated him. The memory of that first command — Again — echoed in her head and almost made her smile. Back then she’d thought he was trying to break her. Now she wasn’t so sure. A heavy punch bag swung gently from the ceiling. Without thinking, she wrapped the straps around her hands and began. One punch. Another. The bag swung back an

'Never let them know which version of you they're speaking to.' "You're early," the man remarked, glancing nervously toward the entrance. Iris gave a gentle smile she used whenever she wanted someone to lower their guard. "Habit." The man chuckled awkwardly before launching into another conversation about contracts and investments. Iris nodded when necessary. Laughed at the appropriate moments. Asked just enough questions

A dull throb in her head was the first thing Iris woke up to. She hissed in pain and groaned, her eyes blinking repeatedly as they adjusted to the morning light. "Uggh..." A small groan escaped her lips as she struggled to sit up. Her head spun, and her breathing came out in shallow pants. After a few minutes, she managed to calm herself. She reached for the glass of water on the bedside table and gulped it down greedily. Then, the memories came flooding back. ‘Marble Man.’ That particular nickname echoed in her mind. "…You smell nice." The image of herself sniffing Cassian's jacket flashed before her eyes. She whimpered in embarrassment. What the hell was I thinking? She tugged at her hair, her mind becoming a complete mess. What will he think of me now? "Seriously, Iris?" she groaned, burying her face in her palms "Marble Man?" She could die from embarrassment. Slowly, Bella's smiling face drifted into her thoughts. Iris stared blankly ahead as the images

The office door flung open, Cassian strode in. His gaze swept over the empty bottle of wine, Bella sitting cross-legged sipping wine. Then...his gaze settled on Iris. His eyes settled on her flushed face for a fraction of a second. "They said she was here." He spoke dryly. Bella smiled lazily, swirling the glass of wine in her hand."They were right." Cassian looked down at the bottle, his expression darkening. "...You got her drunk." "It wasn't intentional." Bella's smile remained intact, not moved by her brother's anger that she touched his new toy. "You're angry." She chuckled lightly, her eyes following his movements. He looked at her, his poker face on, only this time, he looked like he just heard the most boring joke ever. "I don't waste anger." Bella slowly placed her wine glass on the table. "I invited her to lunch." Cassian just stared at her. "I wanted to meet her." He didn't move. Bella folded her arms, her smile had been replaced by a snarl. "So?" Cass

Silence settled between them. Iris stared at him, her chest rising and falling. "...Fine." She bit out. "I'll repay the debt." She took a step toward him, her blue eyes burning with defiance."But don't mistake this for loyalty." "I'm doing this for my family. The day I no longer need you..." She held his gaze. "...is the day I walk away." Cassian looked at her for a long moment. His eyes flickered,"We'll see." He turned on his heel and walked away. Iris glared at his retreating figure before following him, her fists clenched at her sides. **** Iris hissed in pain as her finger tips traced the skin on her shoulder where she was zapped. A few weeks ago she never would have imagined herself in this situation. Even if a fortune teller had told her this she would denounce it as a prank. She stared down at her bare feet as she tread lightly through the hallway, security flanking either side of her. "Miss Bella requires your presence." Iris' head snapped up. Surprise flashed ac
