Euthalia’s Pov
My knees buckled at his confession. I couldn’t stop the burst of laughter that made its way up my throat.
“You brought me out of my happy place just to reject me? You rejected me the moment you brought me out of the palace.”
“You wouldn’t be out of here if you didn’t kill my father, Euthalia,” he said, looking behind my shoulder with disgust.
The tears pricked my eyes just like back in the day. “I didn’t kill him.”
He let out a sad laugh. “And yet you can’t prove yourself till now.”
I shook my head slowly, “How do I prove myself if you keep hunting me down with your men? I can't prove myself if you keep an eye on me all the time and give limitations on things I can do. No matter what I do.”
Before he could reply, every single pack member had assembled in the huge palace. Those who came late stood outside, straining their necks to hear everything that was going on outside.
The news that I was around had spread, they were just here to see.
“Euthalia is back to the palace,” Andrei started, his loud voice booming around the whole place.
Silence followed.
“It is finally time to answer all the questions that have been on people’s lips. Yes, she was still my Luna. But not anymore.”
Gasps erupted among the pack members. I bent my head in shame knowing I wasn’t supposed to be there. But this was what he wanted- to disgrace me.
“I, Andrei Volkov, Alpha of Blue Seals pack, reject you, Euthalia Marvin to be my mate, and Luna of Blue Seals pack.”
Even if I had been preparing myself for this day, it sounded alien finally getting to hear it from him.
All eyes turned to me, eager to hear my response. I sighed sadly and let out in a low voice, “I, Euthalia Marvin, Luna of Blue Seals pack, accept your rejection and seize to be the Luna of the pack.”
A small smile of satisfaction appeared on his mother’s lips. I noticed that she had been sitting on that chair all along.
There was another person with an equally satisfied look. She walked up to Andrei immediately and kissed him deeply in front of everybody.
Anastacia howled in pain.
I shrieked quietly in pain when I noticed the slight tingling in my neck. My hands flew there immediately, it was the place where he had marked me.
The place where he had kissed gently whenever we mated. It was starting to clear. So quick?
“So what will her position be?” one of the Deltas from the crowd asked.
“An Omega?” Andrei scoffed in sarcasm and threw a glance at me, I promised myself not to give him any reaction. “A slave. And she will be living in the servant quarters.
I jerked my head upward. A what?
“I don’t want to be a member of your pack anymore,” I yelled at him.
“You aren’t granted the permission. I have every right to keep you here.”
With the wave of his index fingers, a few other Omegas came behind me and dragged me to the servant quarters.
“Here is your bed,” one of the wicked-looking ones said.
On her way out, I heard her snicker, ‘‘Perfect position for her.’’
“Did you do it?” another one asked me, resting her head on the wall. She looked at me with a sort of pity.
“No,” I answered firmly.
“Then you should prove yourself.”
I looked away, thinking she was one of the people that just wanted to hear the talk from my mouth.
“I’m Alice by the way.”
“Euthalia,” I found myself telling her.
“Everybody knows you,” she said, smiling at me now, seeing my answering her as a form of allowance to sit beside me.
“I’m your roommate.’’ She said and I had to catch myself quickly from rolling my eyes at the word.
‘‘I can see that they brought you here without any clothes. I’m willing to share mine until you can get a few.”
“Thank you,” I said, watching her as she fetched a glass of water for me to drink.
Anastacia was already getting comfortable around her. But nobody knew more than me, not to trust anybody.
She showed me around the rooms, before handing me a white and black gown and an apron.
“What is this?” I asked her immediately.
She cocked an eyebrow. “Your slave uniform. Or have you forgotten what the Alpha said?”
I swallowed hard and took the dress from her.
Now that I was in their place, I saw what they went through. The fact that nobody looked at them. I wondered if Alice had ever served me drinks.
I excused myself and went to have my bath, making sure to wash away every single wicked thing that Andrei had ever spat at me.
By the time I returned, I saw another mean-looking girl standing by the bed.
“Where have you been?” she asked harshly.
“Having my bath?” I asked, gesturing at the towel tied around my body.
“The Alpha has ordered you to wash all the toilets,” she said, looking at her nails. With that, she walked out of the room.
“Who is she?” I asked Alice, who was frowning.
“She’s Eileen. The person in charge of all the slaves in the palace.”
“Since when did Andrei… I mean the Alpha started assigning duties to the slaves?”
“Since you. And even if he didn’t, trust me, they would do worse to you. They already hate you so much.”
“But I didn’t even do anything to them.”
“They came to terms with the fact that you snatched the Alpha with them. They are even more angry that you let him slip from your fingers.”
Without a word more, I wore the uniform that ran mid-thigh.
I didn’t know if it was acceptable for slaves, but Alice had her mouth open and I took it as a compliment.
I packed my hair in a ponytail, borrowing a hair tie from her.
I made my way through all the other slaves that were all huddled in the hallway. I took another deep breath before walking into the palace.
“You should start with mine,” a deep voice called out.
Euthalia’s POVI got back to the quarters at a little past nine. It was the longest day on earth for me and for my wolf.I had let Anastacia out after a very long time, and also opened my mind to Andrei. I had fought with my friend and whole cleaning his wound, I fought my own desire for blood. ‘A very dramatic day’ Anastacia agreed and I shut her off quickly. I had stopped to say good night to Dave before coming back here because I know I wouldn’t have a good night without seeing him. He was very comfortable in Daisy’s arms and was in a very long dialogue with her.If there was something I considered my baby’s superpower was his surprising discernment, he was barely five and he was already so mature. He had not held me there, when I had said goodnight he had waved back at me and it left me thinking that he didn’t need me as much as he used to. It was a bittersweet feeling.I closed the door behind me and I saw the dim red light next to Alice’s bed go off immediately. Her thin bed
Andrei’s POVMy definition of betrayal has changed more frequently recently, and I had a botched view of the world. It was hard to trust people and even harder to be secure enough to let my guard down.I want to blame that on Talia. I stared hard at Daisy, breathing hard from my run. She stood there lividly, not speaking and not saying anything in her defence. The last place I had expected her to be was cuddled in the embrace of the newest enemies of the pack. It was unimaginable and to me, outrageous.“Andrei, you have to calm down with your judgments. I won’t be caught dead betraying the pack, that I am here surely means something.” Daisy stepped forward. The annoying and unwanted guest was sitting on the bed, his face writhed with pain. He should be locked up in the dungeon by now.“What do you want to say now, Daisy?“ I asked, avoiding the eyes of every other person in the room.I feared if I stared too much at Talia, she would know it was her pleas that allowed me to return here
Daisy’s POVI have never seen him this way. Well, I hardly knew him, but it still didn’t change the fact that I had never seen him angry and enraged; he was usually overbearing and annoying, carrying a golden retriever smile on his face. I stood by the corner, hands over my chest as I watched him talk to Talia.“But what was I to believe?” Talia asked and I looked at him, waiting for his response.“That I am not a petty thief who goes around stealing bowls!” He responded, and I held in my laughter; he was really upset. I had heard from Andrei that he had sold out Talia, and I didn’t completely understand how that made any sense, but he was really upset that she thought he had stolen a bowl. I was used to the annoyingly consistent visitor who was quick to tease me, but then again, I didn’t know him.I just knew he got on my nerves; he smiled a lot, and most unfortunately, he was Euthalia’s lover, Dave’s father and the one who had sold her out. The one who she had cheated on my cousi
Eddie’s POVI am a bad person! I know that, and I have accepted that for the past years, and somehow, it has become my reality. From village to pack, to human civilization and in the woods, I somehow manage to bear the image of what a bad person represents. No matter how hard I tried, it has always come out that way. Well, when I was thirteen, my brother and the orphans that we were with decided to defy pack rules and went beyond the border. To cut a long story short, hungry hybrids had found us, and while I managed to run away, he hadn’t.I returned to that village without my brother; when they went for him, only his lifeless carcass was found.I was left with a burning pain in my heart because the stairs I was receiving were beginning to draw arrows in my back. Then, I went to the human world, and even then, I had been branded too hostile, and then I lost someone I fell in love with because I couldn’t tell her about this part of me. I was again- the bad person! Finally, I came b
Andrei’s POVThe more I ran, the more she followed behind; rage coursed through me as I went deeper into the woods, hoping for anything to make me stop feeling the deep anger I was feeling. I needed blood, the reality rang incessantly within me as my claws hit the ground and the hard branches pierced my skin. I needed blood, and it was what I was seeking outI didn’t understand why she was following me; every turn I made had her turn with me, and I growled at her in anger and irritation. I continued running, believing she would go away, but she didn’t, and I feared for the first rogue or human I would see because their lifeless body would be the one to tell the story of how enraged I was. Then it happened…In that feral and hopeless moment, our senses did the one thing I had been trying to get it to do since she came and I halted as it caused a sensation in me. She came to my front immediately, her breath wild and loud as her golden eyes stared at me. It had been years since I had
Euthalia’s POV I stood at the edge of the door, watching the chaos ensue. Five minutes ago, I had been the receiver of all abominable names because I had fallen asleep on my ex-husband's bed (the alpha), and now I still was receiving the lashes, but for something I didn't have anything to do with.Stella had fainted in the greenhouse; maybe she saw a snake, maybe she chewed a glass, or maybe her wolf was going through things, but she was lying unconscious on the bed in the guest room while she received care. They had immediately called on a healer and the young girl now bent over her on the bed, mixing herbs and performing spells. The room smelled like sage and some other medicines I didn't know. I watched the healer work with a newfound interest, the expert way she washed her hands and the setting of the needles in her veins. I cringed; needles scared me.She had not given a definite diagnosis on what was wrong with her exactly but I knew he was hoping it was nothing major. I coul
