Chapter 3

Author: Aurora
Little Ethan finally had his Alpha father's attention.

But only after death.

I choked back a sob and slowly answered him.

"It's little Ethan's—"

My words were cut off by Damien's phone ringing. I saw the caller ID displayed "Sera." He glanced at it and hurriedly rushed away.

I watched his retreating figure, not hesitating for even a second, and continued speaking to the empty room: "Ashes."

Damien had left too quickly to hear.

I didn't want to deal with more lies and pretense. I especially didn't want to watch him put on a fake performance in front of little Ethan's urn.

Though maybe that was just my imagination.

More likely, tomorrow he'd just frown coldly, say "useless," and forget completely.

I submitted my mate bond dissolution request to the Alpha Council. Taking only little Ethan's urn and my pathetically few personal belongings, I went to Stormfang Pack's core council hall to find the elder responsible for pack affairs.

"I want to return to Silvermane Pack. I'm here today to hand over my duties." I placed a simple written statement before the elder, my voice calm and emotionless.

The elder looked shocked and troubled: "Luna, this... this requires the Alpha's consent and a council decision... and about little Ethan..."

"Little Ethan is dead." I interrupted him, my gaze unwavering. "My statement is here. Handle the subsequent procedures according to pack law. From this moment, I am no longer Stormfang Pack's Luna."

I turned to leave, but my former deputy, a loyal Gamma warrior named Ryan, blocked my path. His face showed anger and confusion.

"Luna... no, Roxanne," he lowered his voice, full of indignation, "You're leaving because the Alpha gave 'Silver Moon Hunting Grounds' management to Sera, aren't you? That territory you spent three years fighting Shadow Claw Pack to secure for us! Why should that Omega who only follows the Alpha around take over? What does she know about hunting management?!"

I was slightly stunned. "What did you say? Sera took over Silver Moon Hunting Grounds?"

I was genuinely bewildered. Though I knew Damien favored Sera, handing over such important strategic resources and hunting territory—an area requiring rich experience and combat instincts to manage—to an Omega assistant with no fighting ability still exceeded my expectations.

Ryan grew more furious: "It happened this morning! The Alpha gave the order directly! That woman came in acting all high and mighty, giving random commands, completely disrupting the hunting team's original deployment! The brothers are furious! She's completely unqualified!"

Just as he finished speaking, Sera's voice came from the council hall's side door, deliberately pitched high: "Ryan! What are you doing here, slacking off and gossiping? Why hasn't the eastern patrol route of Silver Moon Hunting Grounds been modified according to my instructions? Can you handle the consequences if important matters are delayed?"

Ryan glared angrily: "Sera! Your patrol routes are completely unsuitable! Do you even understand—"

Sera scoffed, crossing her arms as she walked over. Her gaze swept contemptuously over Ryan before landing on me, her smugness barely contained though she tried to restrain it. She was a "manager" now.

"Silver Moon Hunting Grounds is now under my complete authority, personally appointed by the Alpha. If I say the routes need changing, they must be changed! If you don't follow my requirements, it proves the hunting team is negligent!"

She paused, turning her attack directly on me. "Of course, Ryan was trained by you personally. If he's incompetent, shouldn't you, as Luna, discipline him properly? After all, subordinate incompetence reflects poorly on the superior, don't you agree?"

Her words were barbed, directing the blame toward me.

The pack members gathering around murmured in displeasure, angry at Sera's arrogance and disrespect toward me.

Damien walked in just then, obviously having heard the commotion. His brow was furrowed, radiating Alpha authority.

Sera immediately changed her expression, putting on a wronged yet understanding look as she quickly moved to Damien's side: "Alpha, please don't be angry. I was just urging Ryan to complete his work on time, since Silver Moon Hunting Grounds is so important. But maybe... maybe my approach made Luna and Ryan misunderstand, thinking I was making things difficult... I really just want to do the job you gave me well..." She even lowered her head slightly.

Damien's sharp gaze swept over Ryan and me before obviously softening when it landed on Sera. Then he looked at me, his tone turning icy with reproach: "What are you causing trouble about here again? Didn't I tell you to reflect at home? Sera has taken over your work, so go back. Don't interfere with Sera managing her new responsibilities."

I quietly watched them, watching Sera's performance and Damien's undisguised favoritism.

Ryan couldn't help but speak up: "Alpha! It's Sera who's being unreasonable, insisting on changing—"

"Shut up!" Damien harshly interrupted Ryan, his powerful Alpha aura making Ryan's face go white instantly, the rest of his words stuck in his throat. Damien's gaze locked on me again. "Roxanne, control yourself! And control your former subordinates! Sera managing Silver Moon Hunting Grounds is my decision. She's careful, responsible, more suitable for coordinating resources than some people who only understand brute force! If you have objections, I'll have no choice but to strip your Luna authority over pack affairs!"

The surrounding pack members fell more silent, but dissatisfaction hung thick in the air.

Behind Damien, Sera gave me an extremely subtle but malicious smile.

Seeing my silence, Damien assumed I was admitting guilt and became even more forceful: "Since you're here, perfect timing. Ryan disrespected the new manager—according to pack rules, he should be punished. Considering his past service, he'll clean the western beast pens for one month!"

He paused, his gaze cutting into me like a blade. "And you, as his former direct superior, failed to teach properly and allowed your subordinate to be offensive! I order you—now, immediately, publicly apologize to Sera! For your and your people's rudeness!"

I looked at Damien, who had appeared here after so long, feeling somewhat surprised. But when I thought of little Ethan's death, I returned to cold indifference.Liam stepped forward before I could react, shielding me behind him. I spoke up to ask:"What are you doing here?"Seeing Liam protecting me, Damien's face showed clear displeasure."Who is he? What were you two doing just now?"I didn't respond to him."This has nothing to do with you. This is Silvermane Pack's fortress. You shouldn't be here. Trespassing into another pack's core territory—are you trying to start a war?"He had never seen me treat him so coldly. His heart felt like it was being pricked with needles. He took a deep breath."Roxanne, come back to Stormfang Pack with me. That's where our home is."I couldn't help but sneer inwardly."I severed all ties with Stormfang Pack long ago. My home is here, in Silvermane Pack. Please leave."After speaking, I turned around, taking Liam with me to leave. But I had barely t

Thomas paused, seeing the desperate hope in Damien's eyes.Damien's hollow gaze focused for the first time in hours, his lips curving into what might have been a smile if it hadn't looked so obsessive."Roxanne... wait for me... I will definitely bring you back!"His voice grew stronger, more determined."Stormfang Pack needs you... and I... need you too."Meanwhile, at Silvermane Pack's Whetstone Fortress, I was deep in discussion with my new pack members about critical resource allocation. The great hall buzzed with focused energy as various department heads presented their reports."...The deer herds in the northern Gray Rock Highlands have decreased by thirty percent this winter migration."Elder Morrison's weathered voice carried decades of experience managing territorial resources."The Balrok tribe insists their traditional hunting grounds should have priority allocation, but if we distribute according to their demands, the northern patrol teams' winter supplies will be difficul

Before Marcus and Helena left, Marcus placed a heavy hand on Damien's shoulder."Handle this yourself. Clean up your own mess."Damien slowly turned to face Sera, who was bound tightly with silver chains that burned against her skin. The metal had already left angry red welts where it touched her flesh.Rage surged through his chest like molten lava, threatening to consume him entirely.Without warning, he grabbed her chin roughly, forcing her to meet his eyes."Speak!" His voice was deadly quiet, more terrifying than any shout. "Why did you betray me?! Why did you kill little Ethan?!"His fingers dug into her jaw hard enough to leave bruises.Sera's eyes darted frantically, her mind racing to find some explanation that might save her life."Alpha, I never wanted to betray you..." she began, her voice shaking with desperation."I just... just admired you too much... wanted to become your mate and stay by your side forever... so I... I got confused..."Tears began streaming down her fac

The elder stepped forward, his weathered hands gripping a thick manila folder. Without ceremony, he slammed the investigation report heavily on the table in front of Damien. The sound echoed like a gunshot in the tense room."Investigation confirmed through multiple independent sources," the elder began."Omega Sera maintains secret communication channels with the 'Blood Claw' rogue wolf pack."Damien's mouth opened to protest, but the elder raised his hand for silence."Sera repeatedly leaked classified information about core pack members' whereabouts, patrol routes, and defense deployments in exchange for crystals and wealth provided by enemy operatives."The elder flipped open the folder, revealing surveillance photos and decoded messages."Her primary target was Stormfang Pack's heir—little Ethan!"Each word hit Damien like a physical blow, but worse was to come."The most critical action occurred on the very day you, Alpha Damien, ordered the removal of all Gamma guards from littl

Marcus and Helena sat rigidly on the main sofa, their faces carved from stone. Several extremely serious-faced retired elder council members flanked them, their presence filling the room with invisible but suffocating pressure. The silence was deafening. No one moved. No one spoke. They just stared at him with expressions that promised judgment and retribution."Dad, Mom, esteemed elders?"Damien's voice came out as barely more than a whisper."How did you... why are you here?"Hearing it was Marcus and Helena, Sera immediately perked up and hurried forward, clearly seeing this as an opportunity to make a good impression."Former Alpha Marcus, former Luna Helena, respected elders!"She practically bounced as she spoke, her voice bright and eager."I am Sera, the current Alpha's personal assistant. It's such an honor to finally meet you properly!"She wanted desperately to demonstrate how important her position in the pack was now, how valued she had become."I've heard so many wonderfu

Damien's Beta confidant, Thomas, burst into the room. His usually composed face was flushed, sweat beading on his forehead despite the cool air. His hands trembled slightly as he clutched a stack of official documents.Seeing his grave expression and panicked demeanor, Damien felt his already frayed nerves tighten further."What happened now?"Thomas's chest heaved as he struggled to catch his breath. He glanced nervously at Sera, then back at Damien, clearly reluctant to speak in front of her."Alpha, it's... it's urgent.""Spit it out!""Just now, the entire elite hunting squad led by Ryan, along with three patrol divisions, simultaneously submitted applications to leave the Pack!"Thomas thrust the documents forward with shaking hands."They claim they want to follow Roxanne!"The words hit Damien like a physical blow. His face went white, then flushed red with rage."What did you say?"His voice was deadly quiet, but the Alpha pressure radiating from him made Thomas step back insti
