(Third Party POV)

Marcus stays in that small chamber for hours. Wolves come, wolves go, but he barely registers them anymore. The list grows slowly, unevenly, his handwriting jagged and rushed in some places, hesitant in others.

Every time he scratches a name, doubt gnaws at him: Am I saving the loyal? Am I damning the innocent? He begins to dread Tyler’s gaze more than Jaxson’s memory.

By the time he stumbles out into the corridor, the list clutched to his chest, his eyes are bloodshot, his throat raw from muttering questions no one answered.

Kate happens to be nearby. She isn’t looking for Marcus she’s just moving through the hall, speaking with Celia about supplies. When Marcus brushes past them, she instinctively reaches out, a hand grazing his forearm.

The vision slams into her.

Flashes of names scrawled in ink, the paper blotched with sweat and doubt.

Marcus on his knees, whispering to shadows, pleading for guidance.

The weight of Tyler’s authority crushing him, his

163 (Kathryn’s POV) The first thing I noticed was the light. Thin streaks of gold slipping through the curtains, brushing across the tangled sheets and the bare skin of the man beside me. Tyler was still asleep, his arm heavy around my waist, his chest rising and falling in steady rhythm. For once, he looked at peace. No Alpha weight pressing on his shoulders, no fury in his jaw, no danger at the door. Just him. Mine. I lay there a while, memorizing him like this. My body ached in ways that reminded me of every wave of passion we’d shared, but I welcomed the soreness. It was proof of how completely we’d given ourselves to each other. I slipped carefully from his hold and sat on the edge of the bed. My legs trembled when they touched the floor, and I wrapped my arms around myself, staring out at the sunlight. The baby shifted inside me, a small reminder that I wasn’t only living for myself anymore. Tears pricked my eyes before I could stop them. Hormones, exhaustion, fear maybe a

162 (Kathryn’s POV) The cheering didn’t fade, it transformed. Warriors slapped the tables, calling for food and drink. The kitchen staff rushed forward with trays piled high, pitchers of beer and juice, roasted meats, bread still steaming. The packhouse filled with sound, the deep rumble of wolves celebrating, voices rising in unison. Celia tugged me toward the head table, and before I could protest, Tyler was already pulling out a chair for me. His hand lingered at my shoulder, grounding me as the noise swelled around us. Plates were piled, mugs lifted. Micah started the first howl long, deep, proud and one by one, voices joined him until the walls shook. I felt the sound vibrate in my chest, a chorus that wasn’t just noise but a promise. Pups scrambled under the tables, laughing as they wove through legs, while older wolves slapped each other’s backs, recounting the battles that had brought them here. I caught bits of stories, names spoken with reverence, scars displayed like t

161 (Kathryn’s POV) Celia practically bounced beside me as we walked through the town center, her arm looped through mine like we were sisters on a carefree outing instead of Luna and Gamma’s mate sneaking in a little sanity break. I tried to match her energy, but every step made me more conscious of my stomach, the new curve that seemed impossible to hide beneath my oversized sweater. “First stop, something that actually fits you,” Celia announced, tugging me toward a boutique with big glass windows. “Because if I see you tug that sweater down one more time, I’m going to set it on fire.” I laughed in spite of myself. “You wouldn’t dare.” Her grin was wicked. “Try me.” Inside, she pushed me into the fitting room with an armful of soft dresses, stretchy leggings, and tunics in colors I hadn’t dared to touch since arriving here. “Maternity chic, but make it Luna-level,” she said from outside the curtain. “Go on, let me see!” I rolled my eyes, but when I pulled the first dress ove

160 (Tyler’s POV) The hallway was hushed when I made my way up, my footsteps were heavy but measured. By the time I reached the door to our room, my wolf had settled enough that I didn’t need to force the anger down anymore, it was simply gone, replaced by a steady focus on what mattered. I opened the door quietly, finding Kate already inside. She was perched on the edge of the bed, hair loose around her shoulders, her posture straight but betraying a flicker of nervous energy like she knew I was coming, like she was bracing for me. I closed the door behind me and leaned back against it for a beat, watching her. “You could’ve told me,” I said finally, my voice low not a reprimand, but a truth spoken between us. Her gaze lifted, searching his face. “I didn’t think it was… dangerous. I just wanted to see. To understand what they’re becoming.” I crossed the room, every step controlled, until I stood in front of her. For a long moment, I simply looked down at her, letting her feel

159 (Third party POV) The training yard was quiet again, shadows of the trees stretching long across the dirt. The warriors had melted back into the dark, leaving only the pups behind. They slumped in a loose circle, bruised, scraped, and breathing hard. No one spoke at first. Their chests heaved with exhaustion, and the sting of Camerin’s words still hung in the air. Finally, the smallest boy Jonas, the one who’d tripped a warrior with his staff let out a breathless laugh. “I thought I was going to die out there.” The angry girl Maris snorted. “You were. Until you actually used that brain of yours.” She nudged him with her shoulder, not unkindly. A ripple of chuckles passed through the group. Even the defiant boy who’d been glaring at Tyler days earlier cracked a grin. “At least you didn’t scream like Taron.” “I didn’t scream,” Taron shot back, but his voice cracked and the others burst into laughter. The tension broke. They were still tired, still sore, but something had shif

158 (Camerin’s POV) I didn’t gather them in the main yard. They weren’t ready for that yet. Too many seasoned eyes would cut them down before they even started. No, I took them to the smaller field near the treeline, where mistakes could be made and corrected before pride got in the way. The pups shuffled in, restless and wary. Some still carried the defiance from earlier, others kept their eyes down like they expected punishment instead of training. All of them carried scars fresh or faded from Jaxson’s brand of “warrior-making.” I let the silence stretch until they started fidgeting. Then I spoke. “You’re not warriors. Not yet.” My voice carried low, firm. “Jaxson taught you how to die for him. I’ll teach you how to live for something greater.” A few heads lifted. That was enough. I broke them into pairs and set them sparring not to win, but to move, to learn their bodies. I watched how they struck, how they stumbled, how quickly they got back up. One boy crumpled with every hi
