Secrets And Suspicions

Sarah's POV

I almost froze at the loud sound of the growl, but I was not ready to die this way; especially not when I'm on my way to freedom.

The growl grew louder and closer to us, Alex took a defensive stance and gently shoved me behind his back to protect me.

“I can protect myself.” I snapped, stood by his side and also took a defensive stance.

“This is someone dangerous, someone you should have never met. Not especially on your first day in this pack.” He said in a whisper while his eyes scanned the areas frantically.

“Who is it?” I asked, but before he could give me a reply, the werewolf jumped behind me.

Instantly, he shifted to his human form and grabbed me by the neck.

“Let me go.” I yelled at him and struggled to free myself, but he was way stronger than me.

“Long time no see, friend.” The man let out a menacing howl.

“Let her go, Marcus.” Alex gritted his teeth while still maintaining his stance.

“Oh! Is that how to greet an old friend?” He whined with a chuckle.

“We were never friends, so let her go now!” He let out the loudest growl I've ever heard.

“Fine!” Marcus raised his other free hand in surrender and pushed me to Alex.

I was almost choking by this time, and my breathing had become faint and shakily.

“What is it you want?”

“I sensed the new presence and decided to welcome her to the Pack.”

“I'm not part of this pack.” I snapped with rage.

“Oh! Is that it?” A disappointed, yet happy look sat comfortably on his face.

“Why don't you come join my pack then?” He added, and I looked at Alex.

“What does he mean? Who is he and what does he want?”

“I have no idea, too, he had been terrifying our pack for some time now.”

“Really? You look so lame when you lie, Alex.” He said to Alex and turned to me.

“Don't believe whatever they tell you in this pack, they are lairs and killers.”

“So, it's you who I should believe?” I scoffed.

“Don't listen to him, he's dangerous and has been a threat to our pack.” Alex countered Marcus.

“Can you two stop trying to get in my head?” I yelled at them.

“No, dearie. I'll never get in your head, but it would be in your best interest if you join force with me.” His voice, this time, was serious and demanding.

“What is he talking about?” I turned to Alex, but he suddenly went mute.

“We both know why we want you. He's hiding something from you, but if you come to me, I'll open up to you.”

Marcus sounded so convincing and to make things worse, Alex kept mute like he had suddenly lost his voice or something.

“What is this about, Alex? Say something!” I snapped.

“I don't know what he is talking about. We want to welcome you to our pack and if you know you can't trust us, it would be best you go with him.”

At this point, I was confused about whom to trust, side with or choose. I knew I needed to take me time to know whose side I wanted to be on.

“Seem like someone is confused here.” Marcus giggled. “I'll be back to know your choice then.” He said and made to leave.

“What do you want from us?” Alex asked, and Marcus turned back to him.

“What is mine...... I want what is mine.” He gritted, but I could see a pinch of sincerity and love in his eyes.

Maybe he's not as bad as Alex is painting him, what if Alex is the bad guy man here?

“You have nothing with us, Marcus. You gave that up a long time ago.”

“Gave that up? Why don't I remember it that way? Everything would have been perfect, Alex.”

“You're right, everything would have been perfect if you didn't ruin it for us.”

“It would be great for you if you don't step your feet in this pack again.” Alex threatened and Marcus burst into a weird laugh.

“Really? An empty threat? I know you probably have her now, but I'll always be stronger. I'll always be your worse nemesis.” His brows curved in rage as he stared deeply into Alex's eyes.

I know there's more to this, but Alex does not seem to want me to know about this, and Marcus wants in his pack before he reveals the truth. No! I can't trust someone this dangerous.

As Marcus made you leave, I made my decision.

“I'll go with Alex's pack.”

Marcus turned to me with a grin that played carefully on his lips, “Very well then. You may. Alex, like every other round, you win this as well. But it won't be the same for the next one, I assure you that.” He threatened and disappeared into the thin air.

We were about to take a step forward when we heard another loud howl, but this time, I could tell it was in group.

“What is that?”

“It's a signal that the full moon would be out soon. We need to hurry now.”

We shifted into our wolves and sprinted through the cold, tall trees. And after some time, we got to an open place. It has only a house, but some wolves were gathered outside of it. They sat around the fire and seemed to know that I was coming.

A middle-aged woman hot up from their midst and approached me.

“You're welcome to the Pack, Alpha.” She said in her old cranky voice.

I was surprised, why would anyone address me as an alpha? I thought it was only for the males.

It has ever occurred to me to fall under the influence of the full moon, and I really don't know why because I lost my parents at a tender age. But this night, I felt strange.

Like something was moving around my body and my bones would break anytime soon; it was as if I were shifting wolf for the first time.

“What's happening to me?” I grunted in between the pains.

“A symbol!” The woman said.
