PHOENIX

I don’t know why, but I burst into loud laughter. Kiara just stares at me with an unimpressed expression. When I catch myself, I place my hand on her shoulder and let out a heavy sigh.

“Where did you get that preposterous idea from?” I ask when I can form words. Still, I giggle a little.

“Oh come on,” she shakes her head. “I’m being serious here, Phoenix.” I raise my hands up and nod.

“I know, and so am I.” I pause and breathe in. “I don’t know where you heard that from but I feel nothing for the prince. Respect definitely, I’m grateful he saved me and gave me this job. That is just it.” I ignore the voice in my head trying to say things I’m sure I don’t want to hear.

Kiara is quiet for a few seconds as she studies me. I try to not do anything that will be perceived as strange and then have her thinking this is just a lie. I mean, it isn't. I don’t like the prince and he doesn’t like me.
