“Oh, thank goodness you are awake”

Distant voices filtered into Louisa’s ears as she tried to push her eyelid open. Her vision was hazy and her head pounded with a dull ache as she sat up, clutching her temples with both hands.

“Alessandro…” she croaked faintly, her eyes scanning the room.

Daylight poured into the room and the sun was up and high in the sky. Bianca moved closer and sat next to her, concern etched across her face.

“Are you okay? Do you feel funny” she asked gently, waving a hand in front of Louisa’s face.

Louisa fisted her hair into her palm and buried her face in her hands as the memories from last night came rushing in like a gut punch.

How could she have fainted in the middle of chaos?

When her vision finally cleared, she turned to acknowledge Bianca’s presence, her cheeks wet from tears that she was oblivious of.

“Where’s Alessandro?”

Bianca sighed, rubbing her arm in a soothing motion “Worry more about you, Louisa. Stress like this might affect the ba

The rest of the day spun into night and the night bled into a new day at this foreign place. Louisa had taken her first steroid shot twelve hours ago and was waiting for the next. The locals were hosting a small party at a nearby bar. she tossed about in bed, trying to get a bit of rest, as the rock music wafting in through the silence made it hard to breathe. She stepped out of bed slowly, then through the room door, into the sitting room, and out of the apartment. Colin left the cabin an hour ago and wasn't back. It felt…off. The scorching sun beat down on her skin as she rounded the bend of the apartment in search of him.She kept walking until the local bar came into view. There were quite a few people gathered, glass clinking, laughter soaring into the air. The faint smell of alcohol and…cigarette smell? This was the perfect time to run, find a phone nearby, and make a call across to Alessandro but she wouldn't be that selfish anymore. Not if it kept hurting the baby. She’d

Louisa had fallen asleep minutes later and the next time she opened her eyes, the environment didn't seem to be rocking anymore. No splash of waves or seagulls that wouldn't stop crying in the sky. This was a stable room—a minimalist luxury type with just a comfortable mattress, bedside lamp, wide windows with sheer curtains that kept flailing from the wind, overlooking a wide expanse of land covered with sand and a sight of the sea at the far end. The yacht must have docked. She felt less pain now compared to hours earlier—just a dull ache stubbornly squeezing her abdomen.Colin was nowhere in the room, she looked around…eyes searching for a phone or nearby landline but saw nothing. He must have known to take them out after the ‘stunt’ she pulled earlier.Just as she was about to get up from the bed, the door lock clicked open and Colin walked in first, face brightening on seeing her awake. The doctor from earlier followed in with a new face—a woman.“Where are we?” She croaked i

As soon as the wheels of the plane skidded down the tarmac of the private airport. Three different black SUVs were already waiting. The moment Alessandro stepped off the jet, the car doors flew open—five men climbed out from each vehicle, dragging with them a man whose face looked like it had seen better days. Bianca’s boots thudded on the ground as she followed behind him while the airport concierge rolled their bags away. “Where’s she?” Alessandro asked, voice thick with tension as he glared from one man to the other until his gaze landed on the chauffeur he’d instructed to go get her.Without warning, he lunged, yanking the man up by his collar and slamming him onto the car. His mouth didn't move but his eyes were doing the talking. “There was no one at the location, she wasn't there boss.” The man stammered, voice trembling with fear. “She wasn't there?” He roared, eyes bulging “What the fuck do you mean by that? Were you loitering around when I asked you to carry out somethi

Louisa stirred awake, eyelids blinking rapidly to shut out the little sun rays that hit her face. She rose from the sheet she’d been lying on. Her fingers touched the material. It was comfy. Unfamiliar. “Alessandro…” she hissed sharply when a slight cramp hit her stomach at first. Her fingers skimmed over the area and she began rubbing it to ease the pain. Whatever happened last night, she could barely remember but as her feet touched cabin floor, she felt it sway gently beneath her. This wasn’t land. The serenity was too calm after last night’s chaos. She got up to her feet, her limbs aching and throat utterly dry—a burning itch that felt like she had taken in acid. She guided herself carefully towards the door, pulled the handle open, and got out onto the low deck. The wind that hit her face had her wincing back in response. Sounds of waves rocked the cabin floor. Seagulls cried in the air. Then Colin came into view, oblivious of her presence behind him. His head had a bandage

She kept flagging down cabs but each one only seemed to increase its speed limit faster than the last. What the hell was going on? She just wanted to go back home. She didn't care if her father would have her sleep right outside the door, as long as she was home. Colin wouldn't dare step into her father’s house if he didn't want to die. But the heavens were against her this night. It all felt like a planned work against her. To torment her and make her regret why she left without Alessandro.Speaking of Alessandro, she reached for her phone and almost cursed when she saw how red her battery was. She willed her legs not to give way and slump to the ground. Every force from the universe was really hell bent on making her frustrated. She did nothing to deserve this much hate from everything and everyone.A tear rolled down her face, she let it and kept moving, switching to her phone’s map to search for some other hotels nearby and as if the heavens were beginning to smile down on her

Louisa stood at the receptionist desk, heart racing wildly as she clutched her phone tightly in her hands, Alessandro’s words still echoing in her ears. He didn't sound fine, even if he tried to mask it she was sure he sounded broken. Like she’d hurt him. Maybe she shouldn't have left. She should have talked to him before leaving just like Bianca had suggested. “Ma’am, are you okay?” The receptionist's voice cut through her haze, slapping senses back into her. Her head bobbed in a nod as she picked up her room key card. “Sorry,” she muttered to the lady and began tugging her bag up the stairs. This was the only affordable hotel she could find at 10 pm. It was minimal but she was desperate and would settle for anywhere to lay her head on, as long as she wasn't going to roam the streets all night looking homeless and putting two lives in danger. She’d be gone by tomorrow. Before Alessandro could find her. But another part of her wanted her to stay and have him
