A LONG CHAPTER FOR THE QUEENS

☆☆LILA☆☆

A week later, I could finally say one thing with confidence.

Training still sucked.

My body had started adjusting to it, but that didn't mean it hurt any less. Every morning, I woke up sore.

Every time, Nyx found new and creative ways to make me question my life choices.

And every time, I considered faking my own death.

Unfortunately, Nyx would probably still make me train.

I walked into the living room and immediately spotted Rowan standing in the kitchen

  • MARKED BY DECEPTION    Chapter 98: Worse Than The Inn

LILA'S POVThe rain had started by the time we reached the bar.The bar was only a few minutes away from the inn. It looked like it had been there forever, with faded paint on the walls, old wooden tables, and a dim yellow light hanging above the counter. A few men sat around drinking and talking loudly, while the bartender stood behind the counter, wiping a glass with a rag.The place was crowded with men sitting around wooden tables, drinking and talking loudly over each other and the air reeked strongly of alcohol and smoke.Rowan and I walked up to the counter."Excuse me," I said. "We're looking for someone who stayed at the Crossroads Inn a few months ago. He spent quite a lot of time here, and we were hoping someone might know him."The bartender looked at me, then at Rowan."What did he look like?""We don't know," I admitted. "That's why we're here. We're trying to find out who he was."The bartender seemed to think about it for a moment before shrugging. "A lot of people com

  • MARKED BY DECEPTION    Chapter 97: Crossroads Inn

LILA'S POVBy eleven in the morning, Rowan and I had reached the inn Detective Elias had told us about.Crossroads Inn.The place looked as sketchy as its name sounded. The building was right beside the road like it had been forgotten years ago and nobody had bothered coming back for it. There was a faded sign hanging outside that had several letters barely visible, while the once-white walls had turned a depressing shade of gray definitely because of years of dirt and weather. One of the windows even had a crack running through it, and the parking lot was filled with patches of uneven gravel. Even from outside, I could tell this wasn't the kind of place anyone stayed because they wanted to.Immediately we entered. The inside wasn't much better. The lighting was dim, one of the ceiling bulbs flickering every few seconds, and the air smelled faintly of cigarettes, old furniture, and something I didn't even want to identify. The counter looked scratched and worn down from years of use.

  • MARKED BY DECEPTION    Chapter 96: An Update

LILA'S POVDetective Elias walked in, looking more tired than ever. He gave me a polite nod as soon as he saw me. "Miss Moretti.""Good evening, Detective. It's been a while.""Yeah, it has."Mostly, he had been passing information to us through his sources so the higher-ups wouldn't find out what he was doing. This was only the second time he had actually come here himself. Technically, he was putting himself at serious risk by continuing to work on my father's case for us when it had already been officially closed. He sat down straight to business, I see."Remember that night I came here, when we found out that your father had received a call that made him go back to the factory?" Detective Elias asked. "I was able to track the number, and it led me to a hotelCrossroads Inn. It is just outside of town, about an hour's drive from here.""So what's the problem, Detective?" Rowan asked.I looked at him and immediately realized how serious and composed he looked."The thing is, I would

  • MARKED BY DECEPTION    Chapter 95: The Aftermath

LILA'S POVImmediately we got back to his penthouse, I deliberately kept my distance from Rowan. It was like the kiss had messed with something inside my head. I didn't know what I was supposed to feel about it.I liked him.Yeah, that was the problem but once we figured out what happened with my father's case, I would be out of here. I was supposed to get married, for crying out loud, and I was over here smooching faces with Alpha cute faceThe next morning, I stepped outside, feeling slightly refreshed after staying indoors for most of the day.I had been avoiding him, to say the least.I would come out to get food only when he was inside his room. I even started waking up ridiculously early and interrupted my training with Nyx just so I wouldn't have to run into him.Yeah. I did all that but the crazy thing was, after yesterday, he started avoiding me too.He didn't even try to talk to me about the kiss or anything else, it was more like he was respecting my wishes but somehow, tha

  • MARKED BY DECEPTION    Chapter 94: Going Back

☆☆ROWAN’S POV ☆☆I shut the bathroom door harder than I should have, then I ran a hand through my hair, trying to get rid of the thoughts running through my head.It didn't work.Because my wolf was still there, feeding every obsessive thought I was desperately trying to ignore.Go back.I clenched my jaw.Keep her.Shut up.You can make her want you. Make her need you. Make sure she never wants to leave you again.I pressed my hands against the sink.I shouldn't have kissed her.The thought hit me harder than it should have. It felt like I had spent months trying to cure an addiction, only to finally give in and run straight back to it and now that I had gotten a taste of it again, I wanted more.Immediately, I stepped into the shower. I turned the water on and let it hit the top of my head, the cold water running down my neck and across my body.Maybe it would clear my head, maybe it would wash yesterday away. It didn't because I kept remembering last night. Her lips against mine, t

  • MARKED BY DECEPTION    Chapter 93: It Was A Mistake

☆☆ROWAN’S POV☆☆☆Maybe drinking while waiting for her had been a bad idea. But I had been sitting there waiting for her to come back, so close to losing my restraint and tracking her down myself. I had seriously considered dragging her back here just so she could be with me instead. That bastard hadn't done anything to deserve her. You're just jealous because he has the balls to do what you can't, my wolf whispered.Shut up. This is all your fault, you know.My fault? I'm just saying we should get our girl and make sure she never leaves instead of yearning for her like a rat in secret.I frowned.A rat? What?Do rats yearn? There was a moment of silence.I don't know. Is that seriously all you got from everything I just said?I ignored him and continued drinking.I was beyond wasted that night. So wasted that I couldn't even remember exactly how I got to her room. The next thing I knew, I was sitting there, waiting and then she walked in reeking of that guy. She might as well have bro

☆☆ LILA ☆☆ I stayed upstairs for a long time, watching people move around like busy ants through the window.
