ROWAN'S POV

I pulled the leather strap of my holstered knife across my shoulder, I looked around me, eight of my top men moved in in silence. I wasn't waiting for the twenty-four-hour clock to run out. I never intended to.

"Is the team in position?" I asked, my voice low

"They're posted half a mile from the Moretti property line," Thomas replied, cinching his belt. "Theo doubled the guard on the main gates, but the old drainage grid along the east side is clear. We can breach it in ten minutes.

  • MARKED BY DECEPTION    Chapter 128: Burning Mark

LILA'S POV The room was too quiet.I sat on the edge of the mattress, staring at the thick wooden door. My hands were trembling in my lap, so I clamped them between my knees to force them to stop.Theo killed my father. The thought kept looping in my head, over and over, and I couldn't shut it off. My dad had taken Theo into our home. He fed him, trained him, trusted him with the pack's future and I had spent months believing him. I had let him touch my shoulder, let him plan our wedding, let him speak for my father's memory.I rubbed my forehead, pressing my palms hard against my temples until my eyes throbbed. Everything felt like it was spinning out of control. Theo said Rowan killed his own father. Was that a lie, too? Or was it just another secret kept in the dark? Rowan had never talked about the old Alpha Blackwood. He only ever spoke about his mother.I could not even care less right now all I wanted was him.I looked at the clock on the wall. The red numbers crept forward sl

"Theo doubled the guard on the main gates, but the old drainage grid along the east side is clear. We can breach it in ten minutes." "I want him alive if possible. But if he raises a barrel, I'll put him down myself."The iron door creaked open, and Selene stepped into the room. Her eyes were red with tears, her dark hair hastily tied back. She took one look at the weapons on the bench, then locked eyes with me."You're going right now," she said. It wasn't a question.I didn't pause as I zipped my coat. "Lila is trapped in a house with the bastard who murdered her father. I gave her enough time to realize she can't handle

  • MARKED BY DECEPTION    Chapter 126: Trapped

LILA'S POVThe key turned in the lock.I stood in the middle of my bedroom, my chest heaving as I stared at the thick dark wood of the door. I threw my weight against it but it didn't budge. I was trapped inside the very room I grew up in, inside the house my father built, I was a prisoner.Less than twenty minutes later, the lock clicked open.Theo walked in, shutting the door behind him. He looked entirely untroubled, carrying himself with calm authority."I told you to stop looking for exits," he said, walking over to the window and pulling the heavy velvet drapes shut. "There aren't any.""Get out of my room," I spat out, standing near the foot of my bed, my pulse hammering in my ears."I won't be in here for long," Theo said, turning around to face me. "I just came to give you an update. The elders and I talked given your... sudden restless energy, we agreed it's best not to wait."He smiled, a flat, lifeless expression. "The wedding has been moved up. We are getting married tomo

LILA'S POVI didn't wait for morning. I couldn't. Every minute I sat in my room with Rowan’s words echoing in my head it felt like the mansion itself was trying to choke me.Theo was in the study, sitting behind the massive dark wood desk that used to belong to my father. He didn't even look up from his papers when I walked in, though I knew he smelled me the second I crossed the threshold."Lila," he said softly, tossing his pen onto the blotter. "You should be resting.""Where were you the night my father died?"The question hung in the quiet room.Theo didn't flinch. He slowly leaned back in the heavy leather chair, his dark eyes fixing on mine. "We’ve been over this, Lila. I was out of the country at that time. You know that.""Stop lying," I whispered, my voice shaking despite every attempt to hold it steady. "You weren't out of the country. You were at the Cross Roads Inn."A subtle shift happened in his face. His posture didn't change, but his gaze sharpened, "Where did you hea

LILA'S POV"Lila? Lila, what's wrong? Are you okay?" Selene’s voice was frantic on the other end.I squeezed my eyes shut, pressing my phone tighter against my ear as I tried to force air into my lungs. “He has Kai," I choked out. "Theo put Kai in the dungeon.""What?" She gasped out"He's accusing him of treason," I said, wiping my face with the back of my hand. "He is claiming that Kai was behind my kidnapping. He's making Kai out to be the bad guy so no one questions why he's locked up.""No, they are going to-""I know," I whispered, looking toward the locked door as if he could somehow hear me through the thick wood. "He wants us married in a week or two.""Lila, listen to me," Selene said. "You need to get out of there right now. Leave through the back entrance. I can come pick you up, or—""I can't leave," I cut her off, my chest heaving as I tried to pull myself together. "If I leave, Kai dies. Theo is going to kill him, Selene. I can't just run away and let him take the fall

  • MARKED BY DECEPTION    Chapter 123: Trial

LILA'S POVThe news hit me like a punch to the gut. Even though Selene had warned me they fought, hearing Theo say Kai was locked up made me want to throw up. I had to pretend I was just shocked, not terrified for him."Betraying the pack?" I asked, my voice shaking a little. "What did he do?"Theo watched me carefully, checking my face for any reaction. "He was the one behind the threats against you," Theo lied smoothly. "He helped set up your kidnapping, Lila. He worked with our enemies."I couldn't believe how easily he lied. He was turning Kai, the person who actually tried to help me into the bad guy.."That... I can't believe it," I whispered. "Kai?""People change, Lila," Theo said softly, pulling me into a tight hug. "You're safe now. You don't have to think about him ever again."I nodded against his chest, biting the inside of my cheek so I wouldn't scream. When he pulled back, I tried to sound reasonable without making him suspect anything."What's going to happen to him n
