LOGINKade’s POV“Shit!” Sable rammed her fist into the console. “They’re hitting the main anchor point. We’ve got twenty minutes, maybe thirty if we’re lucky.”I stared at the screens. Golden eyes everywhere. The Forsaken moved between them like dark priests. Michelle and Ashram stood at the back behind a line of enhanced soldiers, calm as ever. Probably liking the side that they were on, because it was obviously not the losing side. Or the tormented one for that matter. Liora stepped closer to me, her shoulder brushing against mine. “So much for buying time. What’s the call, Kade?”Every eye in the command room turned to me. Now, just so so you, the weight of making a decision at this time was mush pressurizing than the silver collar ever put on me. I breathed out, as if what I was about to say was heavy. “We don’t wait for them to break in. We split the plan now. Sable, how many of your people can fight?”“Thirty-two healthy,” she answered. “The rest are tending wounded or running tech
Kade’s POVThe safe house we were heading to appeared through the trees and it seemed like some miracle. It was an old underground bunker complex someone had reinforced with enough wards that I felt the pricking on my skin even from a distance.“Pull in fast,” Sable ordered, and swung the car through a hidden gap in the neglected fence. “The wards only activate fully once we’re inside the inner ring.”I kept my good arm around Liora. Her breathing was low, the silver collar still fighting against Sable’s jammer device. “You holding up?”“Barely,” she admitted, her voice was tight. “Feels like my wolf is buried under ten feet of ice. But I’m not dying in a fucking car, so drive faster, Sable.”Sable actually smirked. “Bossy. I like her, Kade. She might survive this family after all.”We finally pulled to a stop inside a large loading bay. The second SUV came in behind us, smoke pouring from its hood. What remained of my pack spilled out, all bloody, and limping. Twenty-eight wolves lef
Kade’s POVThese Forsaken bunch attacked like they were demons released from hell.“Scatter!” I roared, pushing Liora behind me. The leader of the Forsaken came straight at me, his jaws wide enough to take off my head. I barely maneuvered to one side, as its fangs grazed my injured shoulder. This might be an understatement here because my shoulder wa already ruined. Pain exploded through my body, but I spun and dashed my claws down its scarred side. What came out was Black, oily blood.“You dare refuse us!” it snarled, sounding like a cantata of plenty people talking at the same time. “Foolish boy!”Sable opened fire, doing what she going with her glowing tranquilizer rounds. “They heal fast! Aim for the eyes or throats!”Liora was still by my side . The collar was draining her but she was still on her feet. What a woman. She picked up a fallen rifle and started shooting. “These things smell worse than the golden freaks!”Jax and the few remaining fighters formed an incomplete circle
Kade’s POV“Blood of Thorn.. how we have waited long for this reunion.”The words rolled out of the lead Forsaken’s mouth like something rotten. Its blood-red eyes was filled with cruel intelligence as it came forward, and the other four monstrous wolves who flanked looked like shadows with teeth.I stepped in front of Liora, ignoring the malignant pain screaming through my injured shoulder. “Who the fuck are you?”Sable came to stand beside me, and her rifle was raised halfway. “Kade, don’t engage them. The Forsaken aren’t just twisted wolves. They’re old. Cursed. Michelle didn’t create them, she just let them off their leash.”The leader of Forsaken inclined its massive head to one side, drooling something black. Can't even begin to guess what that actually is. “Sable Thorn, the lost daughter. How fitting that the whole bloodline gathers tonight.” Its voice was coming out in layers, like multiple freakedup things speaking at once. “We remember your mother’s screams when she bargain
Kade’s POVThe roof of the SUV was peeled off like a tomato can.The wind was cold. The enhanced wolf’s claws reached down, and swiped at my head. I leaned sideways, slamming into Liora as the claws missed me by inches and tore into the upholstery. “Drive faster!” I shouted at Sable. She was already doing exactly that, swerving hard through traffic and onto the ramp leading to the old tunnel. Vehicles horned behind us. The SUV drifted like it was Fast and Furious, while the wolf on the roof kept digging. Liora turned in the seat and fired at the roof of the car. The gunshot was loud inside the vehicle. The enhanced wolf caught the bullet in the chest but it didn’t fall. These things really didn’t feel pain the way we did.“Persistent bastard!” she snarled.Sable glanced in the mirror. “Thirty seconds to the tunnel. If we can make it inside, the signal blockers built into the walls might scramble their coordination for a bit.”Another freak wolf crashed against the side of the SUV,
Kade’s POVBrother.Hard word if you asked me, and it definitely hit harder than any claw or silver bullet.I froze, blood dripping from my face like some faucet, the collar still burning like molten silver around my neck. Liora stumbled into my side, as the woman stepped forward confidently through all the chaos. She was tall, had an athletic build, had dark hair which was cropped short, and eyes that glowed with the same silver I saw in the mirror every time I shifted. She looked like me. Older by a few years, maybe. And she has this hard look on her face. Like life had chewed her up and spit her out different. “Surprised?” she called out. “You always did have shit timing, little brother.”Another group of enhanced wolves went after her. She raised her rifle, and without without missing a beat, fired three accurate shots. The darts which came out of the gun muzzle hit the targets in their eyes, and the freaks dropped like sacks of meat. Her team moved like they’d been training f
CAINE I walked into my old office and realized that nothing had been changed. Everything was still in its place but the room was spick and span. I liked that. I sat in my executive chair and rotated it clockwise. Then I looked out the window. Things were less smaller from this point. I didn'
KADE I answered the call when I saw whose name was displayed as the caller ID. I had been wanting to speak with him. "Morning, Caine. Seems like you decided to sleep in.""Morning, Kade. I went to a nice whorehouse yesterday and got some girls to spend ample time with me before the flight.
CAINE Landing was a bit bumpy but we survived it. It was already Tuesday by the time I touched down in Philadelphia. Then I took another short flight to Los Angeles. I didn't even bother heading to my condo first, but went straight to the office. The building was a magnificent one. Tall an
NOW, SUCK MELIORA Talking in my ear? Nah, I would have none of that. I got that it was an important call. But I wanted to punish him for doing that to me. He could have just postponed the call, but no, it was a call he had been expecting. It got to a point where I decided I would have it
